Great stuff Eric. Thanks for not burning yourself.
I was lucky this time...
Good program. I'm happy to see that you are still looking for an improved transfer process.
I'm still hooked on the ink jet and transparency blank. It gives you a good view of the transfer positioning and the media can be cleaned and re-used.
I like the transparency as well but the couple time I tried it, the ink smeared. I think my printer is going bad.
Dave Rhoten I also had a problem with smearing until I specified that I was printing on glossy photo paper.
I tried that but still got smearing. I'm getting a new printer soon so I will try again with it. Thank you....
the rub process is much better . this is something i need to try .
Works great...
Great video sir. I believe using the iron may transfer more than ink, you maybe transfering molten wax which could make applying finish difficult. I noticed the transfer actually stuck to the board. Great vids. 😀
Thank you for watching and the kind words. Yea it did transfer the the wax too. That's why I didn't care for this method.
Thank You !!!🙂
No problem!👍👍
The Heat works great if you want the old worn farmhouse or antiqued look .
So sorry I'm late responding to this comment. Somehow YT didn't show it to me till just now. Yes I would agree....
HI dave Ive gotta tell you I have had great results just useing the old index finger dont seem to need all that pressure
Gotta go with what works for you. Keep at it....
Hope you have a great time in Atlanta. Great video as usual.
Thank you, should be fun and productive.
Looking good there, I like that post. God bless now.
Thank you Terry, glad you enjoyed it, God Bless you too
Great info Cheers
Thank you Sean
Great job Dave. We found single freezer paper on Amazon. Viewers might check their craft / hobbies stores because this transfers process has been used a long time by quilters.
I think it was passed on to me by a quilter. Thank you...
Great video and loved the statement “ I Evolve “ Keep the great info coming! 👍
Thank you....
Good info guys! Eric, one thing I thought of is if your board has any kind of cupping then the iron would probably would be useless as it might not get down into the lower part of the board. I think now that you are using the depth gauge Vicki's spoon can stay in the kitchen! Have fun in Atlanta, we are about 4 1/2 hrs north of there.
Yes I agree the iron process may be a challenge if the board has a cup or warp. Yes now that Vicki knows the depth gauge works she has threatened me with bodily harm if I go near her spoons. Hope to have fun and meet lots of folks in Atlanta.
Thanks Eric--another great video!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it, Eric
Eric Why do you do this. I think its great and i commend you for it. I really like all your videos
Peter, I think you're asking why do I make videos? If that's the question, it's because dad and I love to teach others how much fun and rewarding this is. Beyond that, there are some people that support us by buying our products and we feel obligated to keep giving them more information as a way of saying Thank You for the business.
@@oldave100 Well i asked because we are cut out of the same cloth. I teach anyone that wants to learn and i just retired from 18 years of teaching. I build American flags from wood and you and your father and Vicki has openned up a new avenue of business i had not had before. So again i say thank you.
An ice scraper may work well for transferring...? Thanks for all the tips Eric!
Yes I think that may work well too. We don't use them much down here so I don't have allot of them sitting around.
Thanks for showing a easy transfer method. Can you transfer a color photo ?
You can definitely transfer color, but it gets kinda tricky. Just takes some getting used to
Eric what if you turn up the heat a little more, I think it would transfer better. Thanks for the information.
I tried that, it was worse... Thank you for watching and the comment.
Thank you for your tutorial on this, brilliant result. My question on this is now you have the design on the wood can you also use this method to burn the wood design ( pyrography) so your using the design as a sketch outline to burn ?!?
Sure you can. Don't do the pyrography, my style is routing but you could burn rather then rout.
Dave Rhoten Thank you for your reply.
Use any type of a burnishing tool. I think that’s the word you were looking for.
Yep, that's the word I was looking for... Thank you...
Plastic putty knife or plastic putty spreader would work well.
OK, Thank you for watching....
Hi! Can you tell me what kind of inkjet printer you use?
HP office jet 5255
I love your shirt. I say saw dust is man glitter. Lol.
Thank you, I agree.... making sawdust is my "Happy Place
This is how I am going to put an angel and a cross on my latest sign. rubbing that is.
I like this process best...
Hi Eric: Where did you get your router bit depth gauge? Thank you for all you do.
Hi John, Dave created the router bit depth gauge and you can find it on our website makeawoodsign.com... Vicki
Thank you Vicki, I ordered two and a t shirt just for good measure!
What do you spray on top to protect it?
Nothing, I'm just transferring this so I have a line to go by for freehand carving.
A would a light spray of water work on the heated one
don't know if that would work or not.
I'm in Ireland and i cant find either freezer paper or wax paper so i was wondering what other type could i use to transfer pictures to wood. thanks
My next favorite process is a laser printer and lacquer thinner. Check our video #212. Thank you for watching... Be sure and email me directly if I can answer any other questions for you, eric@makeawoodsign.com
Grease proof paper
Hi Eric. Quick question on the material. Does this piece of pine have sanding sealer on it? I wonder what role that plays when the heat is applied.
Hi Luke, it's been a while since I did this but yes I do believe it dose have sanding sealer on it. Probably would have got better results without the sealer underneath.
How about an ice scraper w hard plastic tip
Yes maybe... I haven't used one of those since I moved to AZ...
@@oldave100 living in Joplin mo unfortunately we have had to use this few times Thanks for reply
Yes I can imagine it get's cold...
Hi Dave how would i stop the ink from bleeding into the wood i have spoilt 3 boxes now with the ink spreading outwards slightly thank you in advance for your reply x
I use sanding sealer to stop bleeding, along with not over spraying. I have several video talking about using sanding sealer. If you have any other questions email me eric@makeawoodsign.com
How many times can you tranfer the pattern or is it good for only one time use.
Just one use per transfer. If you have more questions you can email me directly, eric@makeawoodsign.com
I have tried two different inject printers. One printer, the printout was terrible. The other the print was better, but not worth transferring. I am using the glossy photo paper setting. Any suggestions on how I can get a good printout?
I just use the factory setting and it works good. Make sure you're printing on the shinny side. There have been times when the artwork I was using was not good for printing on freezer paper. Don't know if this is the problem or not. If you want to email me some pix I will try to help. eric@makeawoodsign.com
Will this method work on a transfer from a laser printer? Also, can you use either side of the freezer paper?
I've played with heat and laser printer and it kind of worked, but lacquer thinner works much better. Just use the shinny side of the freezer paper.
Do you have to mirror the image if there's writing on it?
Yes you do....
There's an error on the link to the beginner kit

@@oldave100 thank you
which side of the freezer paper is used to print the copy.
Shiny side
Don’t iron, Vicki. Don’t do it! My life has changed for the better since I quit ironing!
Eric said he would buy me a new iron but I told him I hadnt used that one in over a year so he could just buy me chocolate. lol...Vicki
Dave Rhoten ok! I see where you’re going with that! That is a much better replacement 😄
Can you transfer on glass or ceramic
Hi Trish, never tried it, but it should work.
I would work away from the taped side s l o w down the iron on a low setting. The plastic is called a "Burnishing Tool".
Thank you Cliff, I'll try that next time.
woodburning tools. I have 2 types of woodburning tools.
what is the name of the freezer paper again please
Jenny, the brand I use is C. Jenkins freezer paper. However I'm now using label backer paper that I like better. Here's a video ua-cam.com/video/YDO0SRBrRwQ/v-deo.html
If you have questions you can email me, eric@makeawoodsign.com.
@@oldave100 thank you I will check it out.
Your Marine Crops image is flipped! But you dont tell us how that was done. Thats what I am looking for... desperately but cannot find any videos that mention transfering a flipped image. Seems you skipped a step. Please tell us what you did to get your images with words ready to transfer. Thanku.
Sorry I forgot on this one to mention how I flipped it. There are many programs that you can use to reverse an image. I haven't used microsoft publisher but I've been told it works. I know inkscape is a free program that has this capability as well. We actually use a website called rapidresizer.com. Check out our video #210. Vicki goes over a tutorial on how to use the program and mirror the image. If you have any other questions feel free to email me directly, eric@makeawoodsign.com. Thank you for watching.
When you are printing and your printer's settings window opens, you just choose the option: mirror image. You don't need any extra programs or websites, it is just one of those settings where you choose how many copies do you want, what kind of paper are you using, do you want more or less colour or black and white etc.
Hello I did try like 4 times to print on freezer paper and all the time it get stock. Is there a specific technique to load the paper?.
Don't know why this is happening. Are you using the 8 1/2 by 11 sheets made for inkjet printers? Maybe try label backer paper like I did on this video ua-cam.com/video/YDO0SRBrRwQ/v-deo.html If you have more questions you can email me directly eric@makeawoodsign.com
@@oldave100 I cut the paper and probably that was the problem. I'm going to use the paper you said in this video. Thank you!🖐
You're very welcome, happy to help...
Hello ! I come from France, I have just discovered your freezer paper. But on amazon I find it just in roll !! yours is already in A4 format, so you can print on it easily! It's amazing what you can do with it! I would like to test on fabric, if we can make this transfer hold on wood, then why not on said fabric, on a tshirt ... then after add medium for fabric ... !! It's amazing what you get on wood, and it easily! I find on amazon that in roll, I will never be able to print, or I will have to wait a very long time to crush it, cut it in A4 for printing .. the paper must be very flat ... your paper, A4 , you can easily find it in the usa, lol? too bad for France. ............ have a nice day, Alaksa.
Thanks so much for watching. Sorry to hear freezer paper in 8.5 x 11 sheets is hard to find in France. I buy mine here in the USA on Amazon. Yes I do think this process would work for fabric as well. Thanks again and please let me know if I can answer any other questions for you, eric@makeawoodsign.com
@@oldave100 it is the same paper, but A4 ? i try to buy in roller, and i try to crust it... :) thanks a lot for your answer ! have a good day, Alaska. (i come frome in Paris, but it is the first time that i see this paper ! it is very interesting !!)
My ink smears as it comes out of the printer. What do I do?
It could be lots of different things. I think the first thing, I would try changing the DPI settings. If you have any other questions you can email me direct eric@makeawoodsign.com.
that is squeegee and from another video seen a credit old credit card would work too becuase it has a smaller edge.
Yes that might work too. Good idea, Thank You...
Thank you. Did you print with a laser or inkjet printer?
These were both printed inkjet. Heat (the iron) works much better with laserjet.
Thanks. Do you know if they can ve printed on a laserjet? Thst is what I have. Thank you.
Sure they can be printed with a laser jet. Check out our video #212 and how I do those transfers.. Thank you for watching, Eric
I have a inkjet do you just put that paper in like regular paper and print? Can you use regular freezer paper?
Will this work with color?
Yes, check out our video #310
Will do. Thanks.
thats a 3m squeegee and thats what I was going to suggest
Thank you for the tip!!!
what settings do you use on the printer
On freezer paper, I just use the regular settings and it works good.
I used regular setting and it was bubbling up
I'm not sure whats going on there. If you want to email me eric@makeawoodsign.com then we can talk about it more.
can i also do it on colored prints
is it possible to use wax paper?
Haven't used wax paper so I don't know. You definitely can do colored prints with freezer paper.
Is there a way to transfer an actual photograph to wood? My printer is out of ink and I don’t want to pay for an Uber all the way to a store to get a printout. I have a tub full of beautiful pieces of wood, different designs / shapes, and different kinds of wood, along with some stunning photos I’ve taken of the beach and nesting sea turtles. I’m trying to figure out something I can make to use them as Christmas gifts. The photos don’t *have to* be on wood, but using the photo for the gift is most important to me. Any ideas?
FYI, I also have a *wide variety* of different crafting supplies (literally two of the *giant* tubs packed full), so if you have _any craft_ using photographs, I’d love to hear about them.
Lots of great YT videos out there on this process. I pretty much am just using my process for getting a line to carve by. Although I haven't tried it I understand Modge Podge works very well for transferring photos to wood.
Your iron wasn’t hot enough
Thank you for watching and Thanks for the tip...
