Greatly put . There is no hate at all from this player R9 el fenómeno is the youngest player to ever win the balón d Or that is how good he was. He’s the only one named el fenómeno the phenomenon only Ronaldinho Zidane Messi and Ronaldo now mbappe and haaland but still none can ever come close
in Brazil, it was commonly said that if he never had any injury he would’ve surpassed Pele in greatness. To me the fact that he won Brazil the 2002 world cup after just coming back from injury was perhaps one of the greates feats ever in the history of the sport.
I once bumped in to him (or more like off one of his security) in the club Pacha, Ibiza. A few days earlier I'd watched Nani (Manchester united. Portuguese) have a caricature drawn, by a street artist.
Ronaldo currently owns Real Valladolid from Spain and Cruzeiro (the team that have shown him to Brazil before he being sold to PSV) from Brazil. Both teams made up to the first division this year and will play with the top teams in 2023.

@@renanfilipe7459 No, he's a good business guy, too. People remember him way too much for some isolated quotes that make him look dumb politically, but that's journalism for you.
Just for the young folks here. Ronaldo 9 El Fenómeno was so good that when I was in the stadium you could hear the fear (from the opposite team’s supporters) and gasping for anticipation (from the Barcelona supporters) every time he got the ball in the midfield ! In those days strikers were purely area players. He was so good and dangerous that catching the ball in the midfield everybody knew he could run and score. Only Ronaldinho and Messi later gave me the same sensations.
It really was a different game. Many strijers back then scored 15 to 20 League goals per season and were considered dangerous. And then there comes a strikter who is not only in the box or just waiting on the offside line, but is able to dribble past five defenders and play passes, AND he scored nearly one goal per game. That was totally different. Not that Messi and Ronaldo did not put the whole game on another Level. But still, the 90s were different football.

That reminds me when we had to play against Brazil in the World Cup qualifiers in South America. It was impossible to stop him. If we saw we had just 6 players between midfielders and defenders we were screwed. We had to pray he would slip or make any mistake by himself because that was the only way to stop him.
The fact he is easily top 10 ever considering his prime was ended with two catastrophic injuries before he turned 26 should tell you everything you need to know about this player. Easily the best number 9 I ever saw.
@@alvaro4867 I'm a much newer fan, both in the US and my home country of the Dominican Republic we don't follow Soccer/Football much so I only recognized half of those names. Ronaldo after the 2 knee injuries was 70% of the former self, and progressively decreasing. Still, he was above everyone else. But the first Ronaldo is the most devastating player I ever seen.
If you want to have an idea, as a Corinthians suporter myself, even after his surgeries, he had higher goal rates than any of our other famous players. Guerrero, Romeiro, Emerson, Jadson, these dudes were good, but none of them came even closer to what Ronaldo was, when talking about skill.
for me, maradona asides, ronaldo in barcelona time is the GOAT, not human; then intel time before the injury, he was 90-100%, a little over weighted already, but not too much, still the GOAT; after the injury 60-70%, huge difference compare to what he was, but still won world cup; Madrid time, although he was still one of the best, but no more than 50%. but i have to say, the way he moves his body with the ball in THAT SPEED is too inhuman, it is his unique genius, but also increased the risk of him get injured dramatically.
I´m spanish, and a Real Madrid´s supporter, and i remember perfectly Ronaldo´s first seasons with Barcelona. He was simply astonishing, like and adult playing with kids. I´ve never been so impressed with any other player since then, not even Messi, not even Cristiano, Ronaldinho or Halaand. He was literally unstoppable, a true miracle, a force of nature. Then, he suffered some severe injuries, and he still made a great career, but he never could be the same player. But those two o three first years of the young Ronaldo... My goodness. What a beast.
Totally mate, I remember this dude in his first match against Atletico de Madrid in the supercup... Many knew a football legend was born. Totally insane the best player ever without any doubt.
@@davidglaze5223 Maybe i didn't explained myself properly (sorry for my english). I didn't say i was never impressed with Messi. I have eyes, my friend. It can’t be overstated how merciless he was on the pitch. He made a stray pass a defence-killing pass, his movement and his touch was out of this world. He only needed a sniff of a chance and the ball would be in the onion bag. What a player he was.

The man played for the greatest rivalries in football: -Real Madrid & Barcelona -AC Milan & Inter Milan And everyone loved him, that is a testament of greatness
not just that, but later on his career when he came back to Brazil (2009 IIRC) he played for Corinthians and even their rivals would cheer for him when he was on the field, me and a couple friends are living proof of it! lol
Ronaldo's story is that of a true champion. Not only is he one of the most skilled players to ever live, but all the things that he had to overcome as an athlete is an inspiring tale to anyone facing adversity in life. He's a prime example of why we Brazilians are so passionate about football.
For those of us who were fortunate to see him play, it was an absolute pleasure. Ronaldo accelerating with a football at his feet was on of the greatest sights to behold
His skills were extremely above his physical body. It's so sad how he was let down by his knee condition but he still managed to get back to play and win a World Cup, it's incredible. His desire to play and win was even stronger than his injuries.
I mean, a player with his speed, movement and agility it’s no wonder that his knees would give up at some point Being too strong too fast and to agile, can lead to that
Rondaldo screaming after the injury against Lazio tears me up every time. Heartbreaking stuff. It`s a shame the younger generations have no clue who this beast was.
He ones told his best player he ever played with, was Luc Nilis in PSV... if you ever want to see a career ending injury, look up how his career ended...
Follwed his career since 90s, what’s really insane was that almost half of the goals he scored were created on his own out of nowhere. Still remember vividly when he played he Serie A, very often the opponents has a dedicated defender man marking him even he was without ball 35 -40 meters from the goal.
He was my neighbour for some while in Belo Horizonte, when he played for Cruzeiro, at the very beginning of his career. He was already huge back then. Strange to realize how far this kid has gone.
@@africanvoyagesafaris3834 Unfortunately no. Actually, my mother's house is beside the "Toca da Raposa", the training headquarters of Cruzeiro, the team he trained for at that time. But my sister used to go to barbecues there, and knew him among other players.
I remeber so many kids from our school getting this haircut back then. Super silly, it looked horrible, they looked like idiots but yea, whatever, we still kept impersonating Ronaldo and Rivaldo when we played as kids.
Ronaldo ,simply the best striker ever, he was lethal with both legs, his dribbling skills were incredible and he was stronger and faster that nobody...injuries were his worst enemy but even so he ruled the world of football.
I think it’s so unfair people judge him on the 1998 World Cup. He had a seizure before the game and shouldn’t have played. He was also just 21 years old in a squad that had Cafu, Roberto Carlos and Rivaldo, yet R9 is the one they relied on.
@@michaelpower4372 wasn't just that his legs was like a full grown adult when he was only 17 so things like hamstring injuries was always going to hit him hard(obviously defenders didn't help)
I was absolutely spoiled growing up in Brazil in the 90’s with this guy as one of heroes in the national team. It’s amazing to see what Messi and CR7 have done but there was a special magic back then that I haven’t felt it in the Messi, CR7, Mbappe era.
Messi has it and has proven and shown it over and over in club games. He just doesn't have a capable squad in the national team to help showcase his magic like Ronaldo did.
@@sonofaput Nah, Mesi doesn't have that magic, it was totally different. 2002 Brazil squad was basically a worn-out squad with Rivaldo and Ronaldinho as their only players that were considered very good, but R9's presence there was simply too heroic.
here in brazil we used to say "if you pass the ball to big ronaldo in the big area is just a penalty kick" cuz he would straight up ignore defensive players
I'm still playing Fifa18, and I hate coming up against teams with him in.... One trick pony - pass to Ronaldo, let him run and score. Repeat. Wish I could get him for my team, even up the odds a bit........ xD
My favourite player of all time ... I was obsessed since the PSV days, read books on him, the Barcelona season, Bobby Robson throwing his hands on his head in disbelief, I bought the shirts, the Inter transfer, the move from number 10 to 9, Zamorano 1+8, the WC98 seizure in the final. I followed him like he was my team & alongside my actual team, in 2002 I made money on him by betting on him to be the WC2002 golden boot winner at 20/1 when he was injured and looking like he wouldn't be fit in time, the Old Trafford standing ovation walk off, I lived it all and much more with this man, he distracted me from some difficult times in life and will always be my #1 player of all time. Thanks for the memories R9 - El Fenomeno
At club level was not as successful as Messi and renaldo because of injury. But for his national team was 100 percent more successful in the Copa America ,the world cup, friendlies and qualifying matches for major tournaments. The record is there to show it let the doubters Google and investigate .

For anyone who think he is hyped too much, he was truly great player. You realize that the most when he is playing against your team. When he played against my team, he always scored. Five touches all game, one chance one goal.
I've been following football for over 50 years and seen many great players. In my humble opinion Ronaldo was the best I've ever seen. I remember watching games when he played for PSV Eindhoven and was blown away by what I saw. He could take the ball from the halfway line and dribble past numerous players and score. Not once, but time and time again. He'd just breeze past players as if they wasn't even there. His speed was breathtaking and his dribbling was just not of this world. I loved Ronaldinho, Maradona and still watch Barcelona play just to watch Messi. I can appreciate these world class players but Ronaldo Nazario was in a class of his own. People who say Messi was the best ever probably never saw Ronaldo play. There is no comparison. I feel blessed that I witnessed Ronaldo at his best.
R9, by far the goat for me, el fenomeno, under appreciated, under recognised, and the fact that many people these days don’t know much about him deeply saddens me
In Brazil we also call him “Gordo” or “Ronaldo Gordo”… I thought you’d like to know lol 😂 Despite his nicknames, El Gordo was the most complete football player in the world… He’s a phenomenon inside and outside of the fields… A true hero and fighter… I wish we had more guys like him to inspire new generations in Brazil… Still loved by all !!
A little story I was about 7-8 years old when brazil won the worldcup and one of my uncles showed me this guy with a weird haircut and told me he was the best player in the world. I have faint memories of the worldcup and watching every game of brazil and argentina Time went on and I got more interested in cricket and didn't watch football at all 6-7 years later my friends were buying computers and video games and they kept saying the name Ronaldo , I just assumed it was him but someone showed me a playing card with Cristiano's face , and I said thats not Ronaldo! My friends laughed at the fact that I didn't know about Cristiano at all and apparently he was the best player in the world That incident shocked me like where is that guy (R9) wasnt he the best player? I didnt have a mobile back then and couldn't do a google search and my uncles also didnt know anything recent Eventually I did come to know about messi and cristiano Fast forward 10 years , it was 2020 lockdown and I started watching football stuff again and suddenly on one video I saw R9 , wow that magically took me back instantly into my childhood And I have been watching his videos ever since and its incredible how skillfull he was. This video too is a gem, i have watched it before but now as I have been a little nostalgic again I thought I would just share my story If you have read this through the end, thank you for your time , and wish you well in life❤️
Yes same here I was 10-11 years old when Ronaldo was the hero of 2002 world cup.. I think if it wasn't for his frequent injury.. Then he would have become the undisputed champion of football. That's how I feel.
I'm 35 and he's the best player I've ever seen. Unfortunately never got to see him in the flesh. His record is unbelievable and when you consider the knee injuries he came back from and how his game adapted, PHENOMENAL

I always remember him picking up the ball at the half way line.he perhaps wasn't as fast as before his injury but it didn't matter...he was so strong..players would just bounce off him. He picked the ball up at the halfway line went past 2vplayers and slotted it. He is like a combination of Mbappe ( with more skill) and with even more lethal finishing ( like the Portuguese ronaldo) He was the full package!
Seeing how all the greatest Brazilian players started with futsal, I tend to think that all young players should probably start with futsal. It allows them to develop greater technical ability as well as quicker decision making, the most important attributes to become a world-class footballer.
Youre right but me as a futsal player, When Im out playing in a normal game it is hard af to see my teammates, playing too many futsals decreased my vision in a real football match
Not only futsal but street football, here in France we have a huge streetfootball culture like brazil and thats why we produce the most skillfull/techncal players : Zidane, henry, pogba, ben arfa, ribery, dembele, mbappe, payet, mahrez, martial, coman, boufal, Fekir, aouar, brahimi, bolasie, ndombele.. They all come from poor neighborhood were they play football in the streets or small pitch like futsal or handball pitch but outside, and we play all day everydays even with Adult so we have to developpe technic to face bigger men ..,
@@Anthonydu01630 I live in France too and I think that's absolutely true. Riyad Mahrez even said in an interview that almost all the most skillful players in France come from the Paris region (Île-de-France), because they're always playing street football.
futsal usually is meant for attacking players. if you like defensive, you should start straight on the grass. defenders need a wide vision and quick decision making.
This man is so special because of the ultimate package of skills, speed and strength, and genius, before injuries he was like a cheat code, a package we didn't see after him and we will never see again. That's sad
He was the only player that could penetrate any defence without fear. Defenders saw him as a threat while he was unstoppable. He was the only player that had all the qualities of a striker. Perfect dribbling skills, both footed shot, speed, and perfect ball control. Up to this day, he remains the greatest player I have seen.
He played at a time where defence was an art-form, you could actually tackle/kick and rough players up as part of the game. Even then he would use his strength and determination to stay on his feet rather than dive. Unfortunately that may have contributed to his injuries but thats the player he was. The greatest forward i've ever seen!
Being 9 years old in 2002 and seeing Ronaldo scoring and winning against Kahn's Germany at the Japan and Korea World Cup was outstanding. Everybody in my small southern Brazilian town went out to the streets to cheer and celebrate, and maybe I didn't figured out how special or 'not common' that was at the time. Watching his plays now almost brings me tears.. There's no heart in Brazil that hasn't been touched by Ronaldo's talent.
No one in any sport deserves the title of GOAT like R9 does. This man was beyond all others in his sport despite all the obstacles he faced. Absolute legend.

Look at his wikipedia page. The doctor said that in addition to a disorder to his knees, Ronaldo was also literally too fast for his own good. Like Ronaldo wasn't just super fast in straight line, he also extremely agile. Even if his knees were more powerful he would be still injured here and there.
And yet he is a human. This is our problem as human. We show too much exaggeration in praising charismatic figures. Ronaldo undeniable was good and above d level of many persons. But yo describe with ur words is too effusive to accept.
That's his last name But the thing is, in Brazil, we only call players by their first names (Ronaldo, Neymar, Pelé, Ronaldinho) while in other places like USA and Europe they call by the last one (Lionel MESSI, Cristiano RONALDO, Micheal JORDAN, Gianluigi BUFFON)
“And to some, he was even the greatest.” Thats me, since I first saw him play in late 90s. I know your Pele and Diego. I have seen your Leo and CR7, but with him its not only a complete footballer. THIS KNOWLEDGE OF THINGS.
He was the best I have ever seen. A true phenomenon.

I'd say 60%
Before his injuries he was really really special
Even less, in Real Madrid he couldn't barely run except when he got the ball, and he won a Liga almost by himself.
for me, maradona asides, ronaldo in barcelona time is the GOAT, not human;
then intel time before the injury, he was 90-100%, a little over weighted already, but not too much, still the GOAT;
after the injury 60-70%, huge difference compare to what he was, but still won world cup;
Madrid time, although he was still one of the best, but no more than 50%.
but i have to say, the way he moves his body with the ball in THAT SPEED is too inhuman, it is his unique genius, but also increased the risk of him get injured dramatically.

I have a lot of respect for Messi, Romario, Maradona, Zidane and all the other greats. But El Phenomeno was in a class by himself.
THE GOAT. PERIOD.
U forgot the real Ronaldo CR7
@@skinnyweenie5107 theres only one real ronaldo and thats Brazilian one
@@skinnyweenie5107 Not the same class of player.
@@skinnyweenie5107 cr7 is not in the same class as r9. By far not. Cr7 prime was left wing. R9 is the best striker there ever was
@@skinnyweenie5107 Ya you're definitely trolling
the fact that he never truly peaked, yet his actual peak is higher than pretty much everyone else, is why he's the goat in my book
His skill and speed exceed what human body can sustain.
This is sad and beautiful at same time, congrats mate.
He’s so good, most people don’t even know his last name is Nazario. He has always just been, “Ronaldo”.
his name is "Ronaldo luís nazário de lima"
No need for last name! There's only one Ronaldo, the phenomenon!
search engine messed up because of the ronaldo who still in the field now! :))))
That's his last name
But the thing is, in Brazil, we only call players by their first names (Ronaldo, Neymar, Pelé, Ronaldinho) while in other places like USA and Europe they call by the last one (Lionel MESSI, Cristiano RONALDO, Micheal JORDAN, Gianluigi BUFFON)
I tought that his name was Ronaldo el Fenomeno
“And to some, he was even the greatest.” Thats me, since I first saw him play in late 90s. I know your Pele and Diego. I have seen your Leo and CR7, but with him its not only a complete footballer. Its a lifestory, a legendary one, a lesson and struggles and overcoming like a hero.
He is like Ben Hur, Lightning McQueen.
Under no circumstances would someone convince me he was better than Messi. He doesn't do anything better than him.
@@domilesespartan3287 Messi had 169 goals by the age of 24. R9 had 200 by 23. Far better goal scorer. Injuries sadly ruined the greatest talent In football history.

@@davidbarker3374 He was a striker right? Messi wasn't a striker then.....buh after Guardiola's first season that was when he was deployed as a false 9. And you and I know the story by then.
@@domilesespartan3287 Or Maradona. But lets agree that as a STRIKER (which he was and Diego and Messi were not) "Phenomeno" was in a league by himself until 2002-2004 and the injuries thereafter. Ronaldo post injuries was still a Beast, a far cry from "phenomeno" status of before (where he was THE greatest goal scorer), SHARING the status with others as one of great goal scorers.
Brazil was most loved team around the world majorly due to him. After him, it never reached that level. He was the best we saw in world cup in my times. Cosidering his injuries and rough game of that time, we was superb.

He is a top 5 player of all time easily. Plus, the fact that even Messi admired him says enough, and the fact that players from that era ALWAYS name Ronaldo R9 as the best player they faced says enough.

guys let's be clear, to everyone comparing him to Messi and Cristiano : the gap between him and the football players of his time was immensely bigger than Messi and Cristiano, he was truly an alien. It was like teleporting Mbappè of today to a 1985 match and let him play. The acceleration + dribbling skill and technique was seen for the first time with him.
Don't forget that in Serie A at the time there were people like Maldini and Nesta, still they couldn't stop him.
Ronaldo have more qualities than mbappe...a lot
😊😂😂😂if the players today play by the rules 25 years ago, on potatoes field like pitch , wearing those heavy boots n kicking those heavy football, Neymar n mbappe would be like shit.
LoL are you comparing a god to human being?
and he thrived everywhere on pitch... zidane doesn't even hesitate when asked whos best hes ever seen... pace to run into space the skill to score from outside box either foot and class to round keeper and tap it in instead....he reminds me of prime suarez in his movement the way he could cut and slash wasso unique and dangerous like Mbappe, but the ability control ball like a mdifielder so patienthe was never always playing downhill like so many others in that spot... qualities of Ronaldo and messi. I dont think anyone will ever have a highlight film like messi because of longevity and touch also because of his unique environment coming up at Barca with Pep. I haven't been interested in football for over a decade now, but when I used to watch, I knew I was watching the greatest player of all times when I saw the 'original' Ronaldo play. Hands down, no one was close until Ronaldinho came around after a few years.
My favorite player of all time. I remember my grandpa introducing me to this beast in the 1998 world cup! I was just a kid, and it was sad to watch Brazil take that loss. But I've never seen football like the 2002 Brazilian football! What a great return!
He is the GOAT - the most complete forward of all time, yet to be replicated and don't think ever will be. Young players have their special unique qualities coached out of them these days, artistry in football is dying and machine like efficiency is being celebrated instead, doing 2 or 3 things perfectly over and over again. R9 had it all and could do things Messi and Ronaldo could not even dream of. When you consider the rough treatment R9 had to put up with in his era too. He really PLAYED football. Literally invented so many of the moves people now take for granted. As Zidane said of him "you always saw something new every training session.". A true original. Phenomenon is the correct word. This video had too much emphasis on stats and honours instead of showcasing talent though.
