      I seek out manufacturers who tell the truth about the noise their fans make when they operate, and who don't inflate their CFM claims. Additionally, I prefer for my money to go towards component quality, decent motors etc, that are designed for constant operation over the long haul, and metal housing rather than plastic with gimmicky attendant smartphone apps.

    Great informative stuff man I have watched a few videos so far. So what do you think about running a 400w cooltube in a 3x3 with a 4" 190cfm exhaust for both cooling the lamp and air exchange for the tent....what is the best way to run that as far as pushing or pulling air through the cooltube and the most efficient way to use the ducting considering I will need a 4"-6" reducer?

    Everest Fernandez im currently using a 4 inch hydrofarm fan... it's not noisy... the air is the noise!!! i build a very effective home made muffler and put the fan inside a wooden box.. towels inside isolate sound/vibration more than anything!!! Its very stealth... the oscilating fan along with the fans of the leds make more noise :)
    wonder if you have a suggestion for a pretty quit fan... I'm good for now... hut want to upgrade to 6 inch fan/filter.
    thanks man! you are doing great!

    • @CheesieGamer
      @CheesieGamer 7 років тому

      All home made stuff and it works good... check these links... I used steel mesh for the mufffler and thick plywood for the wood box... cotton towels... used and dirty work... covering the whole fan inside the box... very tight... iam even using a blacking inside the box... I made the box big enough to fit a 6 inch fan in case i upgraded later on.
      For the muffler, i just created the steel mesh cilinter. Duct tape to on the edges allows you to use a steel clamp later on... around the steel mesh... guess what... more towels... i made a layer of about 4 inches around the steel mesh, then covered with regular cardboard and more duct tape... the gray color fits the tent.
      The muffler is placed between the wooden sound box and the carbon filter... In sum, towels around the inner part of the ducting is what reduces vibration... which is what sound is made of... I think.... the noise reduction is 70% no kidding ma buay! Check these pics

I want to know exactly what materials I need for my growing so in the next grow I get better results .

    Can these tents be useful to conceal the smell of smoke? I would like to smoke cigars in my apartment and want to find a way to completely conceal the smell. I wouldn't mind just sitting inside of it to smoke . What would I need or not need if it's only for that purpose? I feel like if I get the SUNHUT-blackout 100 tent with that Phresh filter 6"x16" without the Hyper fan, it would be ok. Any suggestions? Thanks

    Have a question pls. We have to open the tent to trim, lolly etc. It will then be exposed to the air in the room, or if the vents are left open while intake fan is running that will interfere with the inline filtration. So best to have a good room filter instead?

    Hey I run a 8x4x7 Tent I have a 8 " Exhaust and 12" passive intake. Would I benifit much from a 4" inline fan intake? Bloom Room
    My other question is my in my 4x4x7 Veg tent I run a 6" exhaust 12" passive intake. I was thinking of putting it on a timer to exhaust but do you think a heat sensor device is better suited?
    Keep up the awesome vids bro

    • @Just4Growers
      @Just4Growers  9 років тому

      Kcarviper Hi Kcarviper. Thanks for your question. Bloom rooms, by definition, contain mature, flowering plants. Their need for cool, fresh air and co2 are peaking, plus growers tend to favor lower humidity during this time (even though your plants will be transpiring more moisture than ever into the air!) So-at this crucial time, bloom, good air exchange really comes into its own, and any deficiencies in your ventilation system are likely to show (in fact, they can really creep up on you!).
      My advice: yes, add a 4 or 6" active air intake connected to an intake filter. Ideally, duct the incoming air into the patch of an oscillating fan so it's nicely dispersed.
      Your second question regarding timers / heat sensors. Remember, you still need to run your extraction fans at night-it's really important. You should really connect your extraction fan to a heat and / or humidity sensor. Day / night fan speed controllers (those which allow you to select a target temperature for both day and night cycles) are not costly. There are lots of great brands on the market so I suggest asking at your local grow store. Something like the Mercury 3 by Titan Controls costs around $120. Here's a link: www.titancontrols.net/products/ventilation/mercury-3.aspx or the TV2 by Grozone. www.grozonecontrol.com/TV2_en.html

    your configuration doesn't allow for negative pressure, which is paramount for completely odorless extracted air, especially if venting it outside as you demonstrate in your vid. Any reason for not figuring that into your equation?

      My recommendation is to go for the size down fan on your intake compared with your extraction fan. I use a 10” for my extract and 8” for my input. Hope that clarifies!

      +Wizdumb Hi Wizdumb, thanks for your question. If your plants are young then set your fan to minimum speed. Keep a close eye on your relative humidity. You want at least 60 - 65% at first, and having a fan on too high can remove too much humidity from your tent. Consider using domes on top of your pots to help seal in that precious humidity! What sort of light are you running?

    Hey Everest thanks for your videos they are awesome. Question...the flow charts on the hyper fan boxes suggest that when matched with different Phresh filters, it reduces the cfm's by like 50% so I'm not sure if I should get the 6" hyper fan or the 8" hyper fan. I got 150 cubic ft to work with but an 8" hyper fan with 8x12 Phresh filter brings the cfm down to around 260 cfm, then i could turn the speed control down but I would need a reducer from the fan to my a/c reflector..what do you think??

    • @Just4Growers
      @Just4Growers  8 років тому

      +Dyelon Joyce What time of A/C reflector do you have? If it's one with a sealed optic chamber (e.g. ACDE or OG), you can blow full speed through it. If it's a regular A/C design then you should only blow a gentle breeze through it otherwise you risk overcooling the lamp itself. As the Hyper Fans come with a speed controller, I think it's better to go bigger and then, at least, you can dial it down.

    • @dyelonjoyce7130
      @dyelonjoyce7130 8 років тому

      Hey thanks for responding, I just have a Daystar 6" air-cooled reflector with a 400w hps. I didn't realize you could over cool the lamp...still considering the 8" Hyper fan even though my room is only 150 cubic ft. With the 8x12 phresh filter the fan should be moving around 260cfm and then I can dial it down. Just seems crazy that the 8x12 phresh filter can bring the 8" hyper fan down to 260cfm from 710cfm.......really appreciate your help

    • @Just4Growers
      @Just4Growers  9 років тому

      Frank Lucas Hi Frank. Thanks for your question. Sorry it took me a while to respond. UA-cam has been weird lately and they've not been showing up. Okay-your tent. 9 cubic meters (3 x 1.5 x 2). No problem with metric-it makes a lot more sense! Let's talk CMH - cubic meters per hour - rather than CFMs (cubic feet per minute). So our math(s) ;-) is pretty simple. If we know we need to exchange the air once a minute then that's 9 m3 per minute, or 9* 60 = 540 m3 per hour. Add 25% just to be safe to allow for your carbon filter's air resistance / pressure drop, and we're at 675 CMHs. A 150mm (6") diameter fan would just about do the job, but I would recommend a 200mm (8") fan + speed controller so you have some extra power if, or rather when, you need it. Hope this helps! Hit me up if you have any more questions. Peace, Everest.

    • @Just4Growers
      @Just4Growers  9 років тому

      XeMexSharkiex13 Hey XeMex. Thanks for your question. Happy to help. You can dial down the hyper fans to 35% power (not necessarily 35% of the CFMs) but close enough. That would give you about 100 CFMs-you could combine that with a 6" x 16" Phresh filter, for example, which can effectively filter airflow up to 400 CFMs, and that will bring you down to around 80 CFMs at minimum setting-but that's still more than double what you really need. What lighting have you got inside that tent?

      +Cali Grown Hi Cali-thanks for your question. I'm a big believer in over-speccing, but only when that excess power can be tempered with a speed controller. You'd definitely get by with the 6 inch but, if you want to be totally in-charge, the 8-inch would be my choice. The CFMs would come down to around 600 with the 8x24 filter and maybe 500 with the ducting, depending on the length and bends etc. Having that extra power can really come into its own near harvest time when your plants are transpiring at their maximum but you want to keep humidity down.

    What would I need for (2) 4x4 tents,? Pulling from the same one ,?

    • @Just4Growers
      @Just4Growers  6 років тому +1

      I presume both tents will be full of plants at the same stage of maturity - one fan for both tents? I’d go for a 10” Hyper fan dialed down. Sure, it’s more power than you need in theory but you’ll be pleased you have the extra horsepower available when you’re trying to get humidity levels down as your plants near the end.

    Would I be able to add an aircooled hood to this configuration? Or would I need to run a seperate fan on it to exhaust it seperately?

    • @Just4Growers

      Thanks for your question. I would recommend running your hood on a separate fan so that it can: i) push air through the fixture rather than pull ii) be speed adjusted independently.

    Hey I have 3x3x7 tent I don’t think I’m getting the right calculations. Would anyone please help me out?

    • @Just4Growers
      @Just4Growers  5 років тому

      The basic calculation to find your CFMs is to multiply your dimensions and then add 25% for the carbon filter, giving you 3 x 3 x 7 = 63 + 25% = 78 CFM absolute minimum. A 4” inline fan pulls around 200 CFM and a 6” Hyper fan pulls 365 CFM but when you add in ducting and filter it could be significantly less. My advice is go for the 6” Hyper Fan as it comes with a speed controller included so you can dial it right down, leaving you extra power when you need it (when plants are mature, or during warmer months)

    but i got a question, if you have a dedicated room is there any point in investing in those expensive tents?

    • @Just4Growers
      @Just4Growers  9 років тому

      Marwiification Hi Marwification and again for your question. I have grown indoors both by converting the entire room to production and via grow tents. When I lived in rented accommodation grow tents really came in handy. I didn't want to be drilling into walls or ceilings (and having to fill up the holes and patch up before my tenancy ended) so tents allowed me to quickly set up a clean, efficient growing environment that was nice and portable too. If you're going to dedicate an entire room to a growing project then fine, I can see your point! But remember that tents create a wonderful 'nest' of intense light, given the proximity of the inner reflective surfaces to your plants. They also provide a handy structure upon which to attach soft mesh netting. Finally, for those who don't have a lot of space, it's possible to create photo-independent growing areas in the same room using grow tents (i.e. one area on 18 / 6 lighting regimen, another on 12 / 12) - another benefit of the easy light-proofing that grow tents provide is you don't necessarily have to black out your windows to keep the natural light out and interfering with photocycles when growing photoperiodic plants.
      So yes, I'll admit it-I love grow tents! My friend builds his own but he's a lot handier with a drill than me. It's certainly a good thing, as I said, to have plants close to reflective surfaces. Indoors, every photon counts!

      +Keenan Hobick Thanks for your question Keenan. My advice explained best in terms of air control. I maintain a slight negative pressure inside the tent to minimize air leaks - I prefer all extracted air to pass through my filter and fan.

    I'm going nuts, I cant understand how to calculate what exhaust I need to buy. My tent is 4x3x6 (feet) and will use 600w hps in air cooled hood.
    My calculation gave me 211 m3/h, could this be correct?
    Thank you in advance man!

    • @Just4Growers
      @Just4Growers  7 років тому

      rr mm 72 cubic feet is 2.039 m3 so if you’re calculating your fan capacity in cmh (cubic feet per hour) then it’s 2.039 x 60 = 122.3 and add 20 to 25% if you’re using a carbon filter so around 150 cmh amigo.

      Hello amigo, I think you’re doing EXACTLY the right thing. Over-spec, with a speed controller. Ideally go for an EC fan and an EC fan speed controller. Hyper fan are my go to - Been running their stuff for six years without a hitch.

    • @rrmm9355
      @rrmm9355 7 років тому

      Nice that im on the right path! I can't find Hyper fan's that delivers to where I live so i thought I'll go for VENTS SILENT-M 100MM - 240 M3/H, have you heard of it?
      After adding the carbon filter in my calculation and the corners of the ventilation and also the cooled hood, you dont think i need to add more then 20-25 % on 122.3 cmh? Hard to explain, hope you got it.
      Your the king! Appreciate your help really!

    I know this question does not pertain to your video but, I have well water that has a ph of around 8 and about 600ppm. when we water our garden in the summer because of the lack of rain the plants don't like to grow I mean they stay alive but that's about. I was wondering if you had any good tips to adjust the water with out breaking the bank. would hooking up a water softner make the water more tolerable to the plants?

    • @Just4Growers
      @Just4Growers  9 років тому +1

      Jacob Doherty Hi Jacob. Get a water test done on your well water. You should find out exactly what is in there. Anyway, pH 8 is pretty high and you could risk impeding the uptake of boron, manganese, iron, copper and zinc at those levels. If the test comes back okay (i.e. no non-pH problems such as heavy metals, etc) try adding some dilute phosphoric acid to bring it down to about 6. Do you have a TDS meter? If so, have you taken a test of your well water's PPMs? Best of luck, Everest.

    • @jacobdoherty636
      @jacobdoherty636 9 років тому

      Okay I'll look into that, and yes I do have TDS meter I just checked it. The TDS meter read 628 and the ph meter read 7.81 so yeah that's bad... I will for sure get a water test, Thanks!

      @Just4Growers  9 років тому

      upplsuckimcool16 Hello my friend-the Hyperfans come with a dim switch included. Not sure if I said that. As for using fans too big for the job .... well ... let me tell you a little story ... back in the day a friend and I created a small veggin' area for young plants under T5s that had just come out of the propagator and were settling into their 3" blocks. We hooked up a 6" fan and passive input (no speed control) and there was a bit of a gale blowing through it. The plants weren't happy at all. Any precious humidity in the space was quickly being sucked out and replaced with fairly dry air-you can guess the rest. We stressed out our young tender plants by causing them to over-transpire! Big fans plus young plants .... looking back it was kinda obvious! :) Hope your face wasn't permanently damaged by your friend's dodgy wiring by the way and PLEASE consider subbing my channel if you haven't already. PEACE, Everest.
