    Aberystwyth is a cool little seaside town with tasty icecream...Cardiff Castle is Awesome with great medieval shows! And I will always remember Lhantwit Major beach where I tried Welsh pie for the first time and went hiking on the seacliffs of Bristol Bay...I loved it.

    They need subtitles. I can understand the accent in person much, much better than without even seeing the person's face - and the snappy out-of-the-blue commentary format is great IF you don't have to think about what you just heard to understand it. I can't keep up, and if you can you've probably already been to Wales, and don't need videos to show you the country.

    whenever you talk to welsh or scottish people about "their countries" the fact that they're not countries at all is kind of the elephant in the room. Its like your kind of not supposed to say it.

    • @alisoncircus
      @alisoncircus 7 років тому +14

      They actually /are/ countries. That's why it's the "United" Kingdom: England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland are all countries. The fact that England dominates is a result of England's colonization of the other countries, not because the other countries ceased at any point to exist. If you think otherwise, you're either English or some other "bloody foreigner".

      He has a point. Throughout this video, wales and Britain are used interchangeably.
      ''Best city in Britain'' for example.
      So is Wales a country or a state of the UK?
      Catalan, Texas, Bavaria and Rome, were once independent too and are not classed as countries now a days.
      Scottish and Welsh capitals, cannot even collect and spend taxes. London does all that.

    • @alisoncircus
      @alisoncircus 5 років тому +7

      @@fionawilliams6276 Catalan, Texas, and Bavaria are all states within their countries. Ireland, Scotland and Wales are all countries within a United Kingdom. The distinction between their status and that of a state or province in other countries may be minor, even insignificant from your perspective - but they are not labeled "states" or "provinces"; they are countries. They were conquered and controlled by England, yet eventually sorted out a level of independence that is greater than most states in most countries, including Catalan, Texas, and Bavaria - although Texas comes close, as American states all have their own constitutions subordinate to but separate from the US constitution. Unsurprising that it has the most parallels, given that they are "the United States", just as the UK is "the United Kingdom".
      Note that each of the UK's countries has counties/provinces with significantly distinct histories - sufficiently distinct as to make them states or provinces in their own right by the standards of any nation. Kent is not York is not Essex is not Cornwall - each of these were once countries, too, but they aren't any more. England is. Bridgend is not Caerphilly is not Swansea - and while not every province in Wales was once a separate country, they are /provinces/ /within/ Wales. Scotland has regions rather than provinces - but that's because it was pretty chaotic before England conquered them, with local control by feudal lords who negotiated alliances among themselves that could shift on a yearly basis, if not more often. Nonetheless those regions are as distinct as any state in Germany or province in Spain.
