And this is why we live in Wales, this islands best kept secret. If you believe Wales is part of England just watch this great video and you will understand why we are a proud country in our own right. Still don’t believe me, then come and see for yourself. You will not be disappointed.
Wales isn't technically a part of England, but we might as well be. Only 20% of us speak the Welsh language (and sadly, I'm in the 80%, but want that to change!), we vote the same way as England, and we elect English parties to run our Welsh government, despite the fact that they will never do what is in the best interest of Wales, but in "the UK as a whole" (meaning the South East of England). There are more than 10 times as many English MPs as there are Welsh MPs, so our voice doesn't get heard by the UK government and can safely be ignored. While Wales is part of the UK, it is a dying nation. Just because it has resisted English take-over for a thousand years, it doesn't mean that will continue to happen indefinitely.
@@michaelraymond5048 + Part of my family are Welsh, I speak Welsh, born in Manchester, I'm English, interesting view you have, if rather dated, the times have moved forward my friend.
@@henryvagincourt Problem is that Wales is *not* England. We tend to vote more left wing than England, but will always be stuck with a UK government that England elects simply due to the numbers involved. Wales needs to make a decision - separate from the UK and forge its own path in the world, or give up any pretence of being a separate country. I'd prefer the former option.
On a recent visit to my ancestral wales was WOW what a beautiful country it is, it's the ancestral home of Abraham Lincoln and Robert E Lee and over half the signatures on the declaration of Independence were Welsh or of Welsh ancestry, this is rarely brought up in the American education system. The castle/fortresses of the British Isles are very interesting, but they do not compare to the beauty of the Castles of the Continent. I see that 90% of them are empty ruins. Why do the British not restore at some of them to their former glory? I am sure many of them would be stunning if they were complete restored.
Most castles in Wales are a result of subjugation, why on earth would we want to restore them. Castles on mainland Europe have been updated over the centuries and although pretty do not look like they originally did. The UK castles are generally more authentic.
Probably because Caerphilly, was not one of Edward 1sts constructions, and Chepstow was constructed in the late 11C. Still, their incredible reminders of when times were more troubled and Wales was a more lawless country
Native Welsh Lives Matter! Even though I am white, I have experienced racism and discrimination from the English all my life. Wales is England's last remaining colony. All other colonies have been granted their independence years ago. Unfortunately, we haven't. 1, 000 years since the invasion. That's a whole lot of years of oppression, murder and the attempted genocide of our language and culture. But we're still here, just. We urge all ex-colonials, to help us drive the English out. Sadly, the quaint old castles you see in Wales were English military bases from which troops would ride out and massacre the native Welsh. They were places where our ancestors were tortured, too.

what I have never understood is ...if these monuments are so important ....how come they are not restored/ maintained to keep out the weather ...ICE in winter is a killer of stone walls ...rebuild the roofs at least
Rebuilding would take away the authenticity of the monuments. And the very reason they are in a state of disrepair is a part of our history. Most were deliberately destroyed by parliament during and after the English civil war to prevent them being used as strongholds if another civil war broke out.
