Asia & BJ, you’ll love his "Let's Stay Together" and “Tired Of Being Alone”!!!! They are 2 all-time classics!!
Another great soul singer. "Let's Stay Together" was Al Green's biggest hit. But he had a lot of great songs in the 70's including "Tired Of Being Alone", "I'm Still In Love With You", "Love & Happiness", "For The Good Times" etc. He also became a pastor after facing a tragedy in his life (girlfriend's suicide) & performed gospel music for a time.
The Reverend Al Green is dripping in soul, don't forget Wilson Pickett!
An instantly recognizable voice. Just a great singer.
"TIRED OF BEING ALONE".....!!!! FIRE...!!!
Can’t get enough of Al Green!
Funny How Time Slips Away is worth a listen. Al Greene and Lyle Lovett 👍👍
Man, Motown, what a reservoir of funk, flash, and greatness. We need to hear some Smokey Robinson, Temptations, Marvin Gaye, Sam Cooke, so many greats. And btw, Talking Heads did a version of this in the 80s that was a huge hit.
Al was not a Motown artist. Hi Records out of Memphis.
@@chopa2lessTell someone who cares
Al Green ..Marvin Gaye..Sam Cooke...Otis Redding... the Mount Rushmore of soul singers
Yes indeed!
David Ruffin honorable mention.
Luthier Vandross and Teddy Pendergast on that list…
So much soul from pastor / musicians including Little Richard ,Solomon Burke,Sister Rosetta Tharpe ,Joe Tex and of course Reverand Al
.The memphis sound was horn driven with bigger bands different than the southern soul with a focus on keyboards/guitars recorded in Muscle Shoals Alabama(Aretha Franklin) But they were all driven by great vocalists (Sam &Dave,Otis Redding,Booker T&the MG's)
Try a couple of Al's deeper cuts like "For The Good Times" and "Jesus Is Waiting."
The Reverend Al Green is one of the artists I grew up listening to via my father. I feel pretty confident saying there is no bad Al Green song, R&B or Gospel.
Now you need to listen to The Talking Heads cover while its still in your head
Might as well complete the trifecta... try the Commitments and also Delbert McClinton.
The Talking Heads live version from their 'Stop Making Sense' concert movie is to this day, nearly 40 years after first hearing it, my favorite song. But it has to be that live version!
Wife here..WOW WOW WOW..I grew up with The Talking Heads version.., But.., Have heard this Original version..and Loooove it!!!..Reverend AL Greene is a TREASURE ..!!!
The genre is Southern Gospel. The Reverend Al Green, "Take me to the river, drop me in the water." "Love and Family". Explore more.
Al Green is from my home town ( Grand rapids Michigan) I went to school with his nephew and niece, I actually hooked up once with his neice . He is a great Gospel singer
Al's "I'm Still In Love With You" is one of my all-time favorite songs. Smooth as glass. If you want some funk, listen to his "Love and Happiness", especially the last 2 minutes.
My best friend in Memphis had a great policy on taking out of town visitors to Graceland. She’d take them on Sunday, but only after they all went to Al Green’s church. The two places are amazingly near to one another. It all made for an amazing experience! I went, too, and loved it.
This song was only a modest hit for Al Green back in ‘74. But the Talking Heads covered it in ‘78 and had a pop hit with it. It gained great exposure from their live performance in the 1984 concert film “Stop Making Sense”.
Still In Love With You and L.O.V.E. are absolute gold by the Reverend as are many of his soul-dripping classics.
WHAT an era.
"I CAN'T GET NEXT TO YOU" IS STUPENDOUS👍👍❤❤❤👍👍🎤🎤🎤🎤🎷🎷❤❤❤❤🎺🎺👍
Great reaction!! Al Green is incredible!! Some of the most iconic songs/vocals ever!! When he sings you feel it all through your cells!! I will add that Talking Heads also cover Take Me To The River and did a fantastic job in their style.
Next Al Green : You ought to be with me ! Can’t miss, yeah, real musicians, with real instruments, what a concept !
The Rev. Al Green is in a category all his own. Amazing vocalist.
the talking heads do a great new wave version of this great song
Al Green was smoking in the early-mid 70’s he had that great voice back by the Hi Rhythm Section and produced by Willie Mitchell.
been listening to Al Green for ever his version of take me to the river is the best in my opinion
There's no substitute for talent + soul.
You all should try the Talking Heads' version of this song. It's a different take and very interesting.
Can't go wrong with Mr Al Green
My man Al Green. My absolute favorite. Wherever he performed around the LA area I was there back in the 70’s. Try God Blessed Our Love for a change. I bet you’ll love it.
Asia and B.J. check out Al Green's live performance on "Soul Train" of "Here I am" and "Jesus is waiting" with a sling on his arm. You'll love it!
used to have a fish plaque that would sing the "take me to the river" glad i got to listen to the actual song -- thank you smiles and love
Let's tay together and 'Tired of beig=ng alone' please do these classics
Legendary classic soul covered by many people including a famous one by The Talking Heads which you guys would enjoy reacting to as well.
Love and Happiness, Let's Stay Together, the list goes on!
Great reaction as always!
This Al Green song is one of my favourites just superb, i still i have the 45rpm record i brought back then, l have played it it so many times it's almost completely smooth......🙂
You should check out the Talking Heads live version as a tribute to Al. You can't beat Al but you can sure do a live performance that shines and dies one of your influences justice.
What a singer, what a song.
Willie Mitchell produced Al for all those Hi Records Memphis classics. A collaboration made in heaven. Willie and those Memphis musicians played so tight. Pour Al Green's vocals on top and you've got ambrosia, the food of the gods (aurally speaking 😂)
For Little Junior Parker try "Next Time You See Me" (1957) ua-cam.com/video/N2gQw6AAZD0/v-deo.html
You really really need to watch the video How can you mend a broken heart live on soul 1972
The performance is unbelievable
My favorite Al Green song is "Love and Happiness"
Love Al!!
Love Al Green!
You need to check out Al's Soul Train performances. They are epic!
This wasn't his version of the song this was HIS song. All other versions are covers.
Oh yes.... I had to get the 2CD set of Al Green's greatest... Now, if you like this, you'll love 'I'm a Ram'....
TALKING HEADS
THE COMMITTMENTS COVER THIS SO GREAT!!!!!❤❤❤❤👍👍👍👍🎷🎷🎷🎹🎹🎹❤❤🎸🎺🎺
Love me some Al Green.
Al Green is the man! I have every album he put out...still. I've always loved soul music and still do!
LOVE Al Green! “Let’s Stay Together” is mine & my husband’s song! He’s so smooth! ❤️
I love this song. The Talking Heads covered this song too. I think you guys would like it.
Haha take your act on the road! Wax on, wax off! Another great reaction! 😂
😁
This is the Original!
Let’s stay together and tired of being alone are also classics, as well as here I am come and take me. His 70s albums are legendary
Allot of comments mention the Talking Heads cover but if you want a real spiced up version, check out
Foghat's version! Remember Slow Ride? Trust me, you'll be jammin'
Ive always liked this song. Talking Heads does a cover of this.
So smooth
Asia and BJ., Al wrote this with guitarist Mabon Hodges in '74. Imo Mr. Green's is the best out of all the versions subsequently recorded by other artists.
Thanks for sharing!
And Reverend Green will be glad to see you when you haven’t got a prayer, but boy you got a prayer in Memphis
Take me to the river please! It's time for a swim.
Check out Talking Heads version! Awesome take. It's unbelievable
Sly Johnson had a great version of this song.I think it was the original version
Al Green is AMAZING!! This is called
Baby Making Music 🎶🎵😉!!!
David Byrne and Talking Heads covered this !
Both David Byrne of Talking Heads and Bryan Ferry of Roxy Music have an interesting take. Byrnes is ironic New Wave and Ferrys is really something unique and fine.
Wow. All these years I had no idea that Talking Heads redid this song. Al Green's version is much better. Love Al.
Never heard this version but know it real well from Dire Straits 😘
I’m just realizing that you guys don’t react to much funk/soul, love it. That said, you need to react to Tina Turner - ‘Funkier Than A Mosquitoes Tweeter’
Believe it or not, The Talking Heads covered this song--says a lot since they had so many original songs and rarely did a cover--sort of an homage to Reverend Al.
First time I heard this was from Annie Lennox
The Rev. Al Green with the original, and now please do the Talking Heads cover. There are a couple different versions by The Heads, please pick the most upbeat one. It is at least as good if not better than Al's. Opinions may vary.
One of the rare times I recommend watching a Live version!
Annie Lenox did this song too.
🔥🔥🔥🔥
The song from the fish
You have my permission to do more Rev. Green.
How can you go wrong with Al Green...
You guys should react to “Put It On Paper by Ann Nesby and Al Green
Try Talking Heads version of this. I think you will like it.
The Talking Heads do a good version of this Song.
I'm telling you Joe Bonamassa Sloe Gin and Asking around for you they are his masterpieces
Al Green is great, but I like the cover by "The Talking Heads" over Al's version. To me, it's not even close.
Al's "Let's Stay Together" is primo, though.
Sorry...but the Talking Heads cover is the bomb!!!!!
Falsetto????
