My First MK2 Tournament on Fightcade! How did I do?

- I had the honour and privilege of playing against the elite in Mortal Kombat 2 on Fightcade in a Tiered Double elimination Tournament and lemme tell ya, it was quite the experience to say the least. Watch as I show footage and talk a bit about my gameplay and what I thought in general about the whole thing.

I posted the finals on my channel if anyone is curious. Thanks for the shout outs as always! Great attitude, glad you had fun. Male ninjas have to play more defensive to win, so that is a big part of why it seemed so defensive in the tournament. If you get a Raiden vs Mileena match for example, it is much more active. Really depends on match-up. To beat Sub with Kitana you have to get in on him and pressure him. Ultimately you want to trap him in a corner and go beast mode. Kitana has the advantage in that match believe it or not!

Ggs bro glad you had fun. Your experience is similar to me and countless others when starting on fightcade. You find out very quickly that you’re playing against people that are truly passionate about the game and know all the ins and outs of it so there’s less wasted movement in the gameplay. Anyways keep grinding away and you’ll adjust to the gameplay change and you’ll be a better player for sure

The skill gap is insane. I lost both of my matches. But I think it's fun to see progress. A part of me kind of hopes to remain ignorant about playing that well because it almost seems mystical or something to have such good players that seem so out of reach.
It’s fun to learn and progress for sure, I don’t know how much better I’ll get or if it even matters to me, but it’s fun playing this caliber of player time to time 👊🏼
Damn this reminds me of tournaments that we organized as kids back when MK2 hit the arcade. Also I had an Amiga port, we have tournament back at my home 😊 good ol'days
Would be great to see a tournament like this in the arcade, set up one up!!
There will be a mk2 tournament in june on 1up!
My dream would be to attend an in person tournament for MK2 on the official cabs, the atmosphere would be electric. Maybe one day my friend 👊🏼
Crazy level of competition. Honestly, whenever the day comes that I get a cab of my own, this is what it will look like when we play… and you’ll be on the winning side this time, hahahaha. Really cool stuff.
Nice. Finally lol. Best part of Fightcade is not only the number of players on but the replays.
If you want, you can always go to replays and watch how you did or how your friends did. Fightcade saves receipts lol. 👊🏻🐲

When I play in Mortal Kombat tournaments, IF i use Scorpion, I NEVER use the harpoon right away because thats what they expect you to spam...I go for teleport punch more than anything. Only do harpoon in final round. Also, I hold down and block when the round starts....that way if my opponent goes for an early open attack, I can block them and prepare for my attack....with subzero, they expect you to do a ice freeze right away....you should duck and block, then ground freeze, then slide....either the slide or ground freeze will almost guarantee first hit....Mileena is my go-to character usually.

You were pretty good. I liked the matches. I'd say that I noticed 2 main reasons that you weren't winning that much was that 1) your opponents were executing the moves faster than you 2) they weren't taking any risks, like almost no jumping towards you etc.. Yes, a lot of defensive play by them also. I'd say work on the speed of execution, your battle plan was pretty good but just wasn't coming out fast enough out of your controls. Felt a bit like games of rock-paper-scissors lol. Good job though and liked the video 🙂 👍 Gotta check out this FightCade myself 🤔
You sound like you know your stuff. This is the closest to the arcade that you’ll get definitely check it out if you can, there’s a lot of how to videos on setting it up 👊🏼

Them tournaments are insanely hard! I like it when it's fast paced as well can't stand when someone just crouches down and blocks just go for an attack. I feel the same way when you beat me it sucks. You're just better then me. Doesn't take the fun out of it or anything. When I rarely win it's a freaking holy God moment lmao! Thunder God Honey Marmalade strong moment! Lmao! In SF Turbo, C grade players and up are nightmarish for any casual players. I thought i was good at Killer Instinct Snes version till someone obliterated me on Fightcade... Im not surprised this happened to you who is godlike compared to me on MK2...
There is a huge difference between fighting against the CPU and a human player, especially in MK2. It's a game where you have to exploit the AI in order to win, and that's not possible with a human opponent, at least not in a comparable way.

As always, Great video bro. From what i gathered while watching the gameplay, basically, once a person pretty much learns the game inside and out, it comes down to just being patient and waiting for your opponent to attack first and then countering and blocking. It's definitely a chess match, as you said. Like you, i respect the competitive play style and i can see how its fun for them. However, like yourself, im a casual player that enjoys playing others of similar skill. Thanks for the shout out and the kindness of thinking we are of the same skill level even though you are still ahead of me lol. I appreciate it regardless. I enjoyed the upload and look forward to future tournament play. 👊
Thanks dude, I’m pretty sure we share the same opinions on this level of play, we gotta respect it, I do love how it’s so ingrained in their heads that it’s basically insane muscle memory, at least it seems that way to me where they KNOW what you’re doing the millisecond you do it lol regardless, and yes we are equal on there lol I think you’re better at MK1 and UMK3 and perhaps I am better at MK2 and MK3 which evens everything out, it’s science 😂👊🏼
Now you made me curious about playing MK2 online... The only FTG I tried to play online was Darkstalkers - Vampire Savior 2 (but I still managed to win 50% of the matches). Let's see if my PS3 still works with the PS network, I'll give it a try!
Thanks for the comment my friend, MK2 still works online with the PS3 if you own MKAK, I’ve played on there recently. No one is online however so you’d need to make arrangements with someone who owns it and meet up to play, otherwise you’ll be sitting in an empty lobby. I definitely recommend FC 👊🏼

Regarding studying yourself, you can watch replays directly within Fightcade, not only of your own games, but also others you want to study.

From watching street fighter pros, they normally play patient at first and try to get a couple hits in and force the opponent to get aggressive. This opens up the counter attacks. When the opponent starts out ahead, all they have to do is sit back and be patient, and counter your attacks. I’m no pro by any means. I enjoy watching you play. Use the clock in forcing your opponent to make mistakes.

Wow my friend very good play some really steep competition out there...Ps tou should play Mortal Kombat 2 on the ps2 it's a lot better than the ps1 version...for me thou...if you can try out a comparison on these systems I you haven't yet. Shout out from all the way over here in south Africa my friend.
Indeed, the PS1 port is a terrible way to play MK2. But this here is the original arcade version (emulation), most likely from the Mortal Kombat Arcade collection on PS3.

I did a playthrough of MK2 on PS2 and I labeled it as cartoon Kombat, because it looked like it was drawn in pastel.. I appreciate the comment my friend and thanks for all the support! Is South Africa a Country worth visiting?

I’m not the greatest mk player, but there is certain follow up moves that net u damage even if it’s chip damage n keep your opponent from mounting an attack.
Messes with their timing and psyche.

Is Fightcade emulating the arcade version of MKII in this footage?
I notice sometimes you go with the natural flow of the game, and you pay for it. You might know this, you kind of have to 'not' do what the opponent is expecting.
Back in the day we had a phrase "turtle" style fighting, where you wait for the opp, then counter.
That reminds me of my style of playing street fighter. I was always bad at MK2 & 3 because it was too fast paced, and also because I suck. I have much more fun watching peeps play, haha.

I've always been a bit more of a single-player gamer.
You'd need to devote literally 2 hours a day (each week) for a month in order to re-sculpt that different frame of muscle-memory in order to compete at that level.
Keep in mind, you've done so much at a fundamental level in terms of rekindling renewed interest into the original MK Trilogy.
As long as it's fun, it's more than worth it.
Remember, when it comes to Mortal Kombat, the only losers are the people who were only allowed to play Street Fighter in their youth...

That’s one thing I failed to mention, at this level it’s very rare to see a Fatality because they’ve seen them so many times they just wanna move to the next battle.
I don't really care for that style of play either, but that's the game and I guess if you want to be top-ranked that's how you have to play it. I disagree with your chess analogy because in chess each player is exactly equal as far as pieces and move sets and in MK or any other fighting game some characters are just stronger than others which can give one player advantages over the other. So my point is that with that specific style of play they are moreso "exploiting" certain elements of the game instead of just playing it as it is normally played.

This isn't skill at all. All I noticed in this is if you master Sub Zero in this who's 2 freezing moves give him a huge advantage cuz he can uppercut you then do the slide right after is a huge thing. All they did was wait for you to make the 1st move & then they just blocked all the way through froze you then counter attacks. Not once did I see them trying to jump kick you some offensive punches nothing like that.
I noticed you had a bit of skill with Liu Kang. Still thought it doesn't matter cuz all they do is block & freeze you. This is a fighting game. You're supposed to do combos & attack. Just standing there is really boring.
Sub-Zero is actually the 2nd weakest character in MK2 - only Reptile is worse. The male ninjas have the best roundhouse to anti-air, so jump kicking against them isn't very wise. Darryl has a lot of skills, as do his opponents. You're always welcome to join the next tournament and show your skills. 😎
@@THEmortal_jason You're not going to convince me that Sub Zero sucks when Darryl got beat by him. All they did was block mostly wait for Darryl to make a move & then counter that.
I'm more of an offensive guy in this game trying to do jump kicks punches whatever.
I am not going to play people that just block the whole time & just wait to counter my moves.
As for Darryl he had skills with Liu Kang because I didn't know when he was going to pull off the bicycle kick etc. At the end of the day, even if you master offensive moves in this, Defense seems like win for the majority.

man…. when I play against others like this…. I would hit up the whole roster…. that way it may be more even… not just use my strongest guy … I was hoping Don was going to use different characters… THAT is a true test of your skill
The structure of the tourney only allowed him to use Sub Johnny or Reptile until he lost… which he didn’t lol that’s all. It was a 4 tier elimination set.
