    Very good video; clear pictures and instructions. I needed to know the right wrench size for the cap.

    Thanks for the Video and will help others when they go and change the oil. One suggestion to make, when refilling the oil, I find removing the dipstick prior to filling will allow the oil to flow in without having it overflow, along with making sure to pour slowly. In future, if you clean the oil filter screen, be interested in seeing that video also as I have not been able to get my screen out on the QD3200, I must be doing something wrong.

      You may need a pair of pliers to hold the little stainless steel "expander" that is really a bent piece of metal, at the same time you loosen the cap screw bolt. The way it works is: as the cap screw tightens against the bent metal tab. Tightening the retainer screw, takes the bend out of the metal, wedging the ends of the tab into the bore. It's that friction that keeps the screen tube housing in place. There are large oil proof o-rings at both ends of the screen tube. The larger one near the cap screw you'll be loosening, is what seals the low pressure oil inside the crankcase. I found mine to be really torqued down tight. So much so that breaking it loose the first time required a considerable force, as you'll also be unseating the ends of the steel piece from the aluminum. Loosen it enough to allow the little steel plate to flex back into a bit of a crescent and you'll be easily able to extract the screen tube.

    You chose the perfect tool for removing the drain plug. I thought I was being smart by buying a ratcheting style wrench (exactly like yours but with ratcheting gears), but it does NOT fit between the frame of my 2018 Winnebago Via and the drain plug, no way to slide it over the head. I also tried a Craftsman deep socket, it does not fit lengthwise.
    So take home message: anyone with a QD3200 to get a NON-ratcheting wrench, NOT a ratcheting wrench OR a deep socket.

    Curious to know if your Onan QD 3200 is still running. I have one in a 2015 leisure travel RV. The RV has 20000 miles and the generator has 259 run hours. The generator shut down while running displaying Gen Off on the display. It has not started since. Onan discontinued this generator about July of 2023 as per the Onan service center in Kenner La. I took the generator to a HATZ service center in Alabama. I am told it would require 10 to 15 hours of shop labor @ $150.00/ hour to determine the problem. I was told HATZ no longer makes the engine and some parts are not available at all. The problem is definitely fuel it appears to be the high pressure fuel pump which is internal to the engine. If anyone knows of a diesel generator that would work with an RV built on a sprinter chassis I would like to know.

      I have sold this motorhome, but during my 2 years of owning I had zero issues with the generator. Thanks for your question and best of luck to you.

    I didn’t warm up the oil before I started changing it. Will any damage be done?

      No worries, it would drain a little faster and be more likely to get more of the old oil out if it's warmed up. With the hot weather now it shouldn't make much difference.

      No modifications, just a cheap wrench that I already owned. Such as Harbor Freight.

    Thanks for a fine job. About how long should it take to run at the beginning to warm up the oil properly ? Thanks !

      8-10 minutes should be sufficient . . . Thanks

      @@kevinnelson8509 Thanks, Kevin ! Got it. Unfortunately we're at 108 hours and doing my first oil change on my generator like yours - on the 2017 Winnebago View we bought in Spring 2019. Hopefully no longterm damage done !

    What is the lever for that the yellow tag is hanging on?

    • @kevinnelson8509
      @kevinnelson8509  3 роки тому +1

      It is the engine stop lever. I believe it shuts the engine down by cutting off the airflow, in the case of a runaway generator.

    Are there any videos on fuel or air filter changes on 3200 Onan generator?

    Sorry about the thumb down but the video quality is not great. The video and sound does not synch correctly. Perhaps you uploaded the video at too high a resolution.

      Sorry for your dissatisfaction. You may wish to check your bandwidth and internet speed, as I see no issue with video sound sync. Many of my videos are intended to be instructional, to teach others more about their RV…..(the content is most important).
