Great video! Coming up on 20 hours in our 2024 59K! Thanks for sharing!
Wow, glad I watched this. Somewhere I got the impression first oil change was at 50 hours. Thanks for the video. BTW, I have a large 200ml syringe to fill the oil with. I like it better than those pumps. Also, I've never used teflon tape on drain plugs. Somewhere along the way I was told that stuff would be bad if any managed to migrate up into the oil pan. Thanks for the video.
2023 59g. Thanks for putting this video out. My 1st gen oil change. There were no surprises. Very tight spaces and my creeper was no help. Never used an oil pump. I am glad it worked flawlessly. Really appreciate your video.
Warning PLEASE NOTE: Watch this video to the end: The Onan QG 2800I which is the new quiet generator uses a FULL QUART of synthetic oil . NOT 12 oz. as shown INITIALLY in this video. All the old videos from several years ago are now obsolete for those with the new Onan. This genny is standard on most class B vans starting in 21-22 model year going forward. Everything else with this Great Video appears correct although I personally find no need to use Teflon tape since there is a Crush Washer on the new drain plug. In case you lose the crush washer (i did, lol), you can easily get a replacement at any auto parts store
Yes, I did in fact use the whole bottle 4:49
Good work on this. I just got a 2000 Roadtrek with a 2800 generator and I'm checking videos to pick up details on this. Working from underneath like you did, a pump is a good way to add the oil - there's no room to tip a bottle underneath the vehicle.
Thanks for the tutorial.
I just bought all the nessary stuff. Now to do it.
I noticed you did not jack up or ramp up the back end.
I bought 4 inch ramps. It will give me a few extra inches to work with.
Looking forward to seeing your other videos.
Are you the guitar player that had tour videos?
Yep!
I use the oil pump to remove the old oil into an empty quart bottle. Always been right at the 32 oz mark. Much easier than hassling with the drain plug.
Great video! I just got a Airstream Interstate, which has the QG 2800i (HGLAA Spec A) installed and I may have to perform this service on our first trip. Your video helped me know that this is a service I can perform. Reading through the manual it recommends SAE 30w for summer temperatures in the mid-atlantic region (> 32F). The manual () recommends 10W-30 for temperatures from 0F to 80F. Please let me know if I'm missing something, but the 10W-30 may be a bit light if you are taking summer trips in the US. Thanks again for the video.
No oil filter on the generator?
I also change my own oil on the newer style Onan generator. Tips I would add is I drain into a oil pan that holds the oil inside to make transport to oil recycling center easier, Walmart, Napa, and others accept old oil for free so I usually change oil in the parking lot and buy new oil when turning in the old. It is very hard to get entire quart of oil out of bottle with hand pump so I always have 2 quarts of new oil when doing an oil change. I carry all items in storage bin so I can change oil anywhere for both van engine and generator. Usually under $50.00 for supplies to do both and can be done in about 1/2 hour once you have tools and process down.
A great video! Thanks for sharing. Does anyone know what the valve lash is supposed to be on these 2800i generators? The owners manual says it should be checked at the 450 hour mark.
Nice video
Just a quick note about Teflon tape...
You should never use it on a drain plug with a sealing washer.
It's only for old school pipe thread plugs.
Thanks! I'll keep it off next oil change.
Curious - i bought a sequence 20l (basically same as travato) and looking for information on the onan generator oil change, specifically how to change the oil filter.. does the whole generator need to be "dropped" to access the filter?
Good question, unfortunately i don't have that answer.
@@ClassB-RV-Newbie it's a filterless onan.. figured it out!
After the initial 20 hour usage, what is the recommended maintenance oil change after? Great walk through brother.
I think it’s around 120 hours

Do you put the hole quart in or 12 or i have a travato 59g 2022. i am going to follow your video. i got to chance my oil to.
I believe for newer generators like ours, you put the full quart in.
I'm always afraid I'm going to turn the bolt the wrong way and tighten it by mistake.
You did not focus the camera in your project😳
It was the Go Pro's fault lol
