The penetratable/penetrable gag with the callback to the .ca thing gave me a pretty hearty chuckle. But as I write this, I'm about halfway through the video, so maybe another gag I haven't seen yet will take the cake!
Megaman X2 is one of the games I used to rent from my small towns Hardware Store! They included the instruction book, and people would write their passwords in it, so as a Kid i'd just put in random passwords to see where it left me and what upgrades they had. Ended up buying that copy when they went out of business, still have it!
26:00 the serges=wily theory comes from Serges japanese dialogue when he dies; "Am I to perish here? Defeated by Light’s memento robot again… how regretful…" Implying he knew light and was defeated by his robots before
25:56 it is implied in the jp version that he is indeed Dr. Wily from the original MegaMan, as he utilizes weapons instead of attacking directly, he even mistakes X for Megaman when he calls him Rock... Instead of X. And when defeated he says that he regrets that he has been defeated by the memento of light
The Serges is Wily theory mainly comes from appearance, but there's a line cut from localization where after defeat in the original Japanese version, Serges says "Being defeated by the robotic memento of Light yet again.. Such regret." People further latched on to the idea since he's one of the only X series characters to name drop Doctor Light, and the "such regret" might imply how Wily's schemes fail constantly. We were never given any confirmation for this however, as Keiji Inafune purposely didn't do it because he wants to leave fun and imagination for the players.
The specific mention of the password theme in X2 is funny, because, yeah, it's not really great (but does it really need to be? Hopefully you're only on that screen for less than a minute). But what I think is funny in particular is how I genuinely think that the password theme in Megaman X is one of its greatest tracks. I listen to it sometimes when I just want to feel happy things.
41:40 finding this secret as a kid with no guide or help and showing it to my older brother was insanely awesome, just saying, we had each beaten this game many times and thought there was nothing new to find.
Dude. These videos are amazing. Not only are you incredibly thorough in your coverage of the game. But you are nailing some very funny jokes as well. Top notch writing. I have poested comments on part 1 and part 2. Usually mentioning something that may have been missed. Only to have you actually explain it not long after. So like i said. Very thorough. Your order of bosses is a little strange to me for this game. But I like it thus far. Nice reasoning for it too. Looks like minimal backtracking. One of the reasons I'm NOT a huge fan of X2 is because it felt like I HAD to do every level twice (at least) to get everything. I also want to point out that i didnt know if you skipped an X Hunter fight that you lost that one from reappearing. That IS good to know. The Morph Moth growth thing for the trophy/achievement also was news to me until i needed to go get it. I always did the beat him down method to get the change to happen. I THINK if you LET him change like that though he is harder to fight. Omly basing this on the fact that I took a ton of damage letting him change and then he seemed stronger because i had less life. But it would make sense that he might have different stats if he cooked a little longer in his cocoon. The armor piece can be found with the item search head piece ability. But as you (and I) mentioned. Its a garbage ability. Only reason i get it is for OCD for completion AND to be able to get the shoryuken later (have to have basically everything else in the game to get it). This game is fun. Don't get me wrong. I just hate certain aspects of it. Others I absolutely love. Also something I learned from this video was the weather control using various weapons in Wire Sponge stage. Did not know there even WAS an icy weather option. Let alone I could control the weather like a god. Lol. I HAVE to do that when i play it again. Lol Also if you don't have the bike for Overdrive Ostrich heart tank. There IS another kamikaze option. Speed burner air dash combo. It will get you to the tank but then you CANNOT avoid the spikes and die. Just in case someone loses the bike but has the arm and leg pieces and fire weapon. It's a total cheat but it IS an option.
I don't know if you ever discovered this, but when you're fighting Wheel Gator, and you have the Strike Chain, if you time your shots correctly, you can actually keep hitting him before he goes back underground. You should be able to completely destroy Wheel Gator if you master this technique.
Great video as always. I personally will always love X more than X2 but this at least makes me see them as pretty evenly matched overall. I am just not a fan of the way they trick the players out or getting cool stuff cause we didn’t play it correctly… which is why I can’t wait to see your X3 coverage. Lol.

@@TarvouldsQuest I see you too have exquisite tastes. I was watching your other X video, then jumped to this one, and I can't wait for X3. BUT when I heard that song.... Well, I just had to sub. I'm in it for the long haul now baby. xD This is too good.
The reason that heart tank in Wire Sponge is hidden is to promote usage of rhe helmet piece. Its a virtually worthless piece of armor. Barely being usable at all on the game. So if you were actually searching levels for stuff then it has a purpose. That is why they hid it in such a nearly impossible to find randomly kind of way. But I agree. Its a shitty thing to do. And hidden walls are fine when they dont make me have to tap EVERY wall just to be sure. Like leave SOME indicator that they are there and I'm okay with them. But this is an example of one I despise.
That is SUCH a cheat to get that heart in Wheel Gator level. Lol. I applaud the ingenuity of course. But it is totally NOT how you're supposed to do it. Lol. Either a regular (perfectly timed) air dash can get you up there (I think. It's been a while since I did it). OR you can use the double air dash of using a fully charged speed burner and an air dash (similar to what it takes to get the Shoryuken move at the end of this game) to jump off a raised platform nearby and make it. I DO love cheesing my way through certain portions of games though. So again I applaud this invincibility frame hack for reaching it.
I LOVE this game. It's my second favorite game in the X series and my third favorite game of all time. I will say, I hope they don't do an X9. I hope they do a whole new game, recontextualizing the games that do exist into a more coherent, complete story. Like, X 1, 2, and 3 all one game where you see the degradation of human society as mavericks keep popping up. Then 4, and 5 where the Reploids become more dominant, yet still beholden to the humans that are left, but they too start to decline in war as infighting and mavericks take more and more peaceful days away, culminating in the cataclysm of most of the planet, and the proliferation of the Sigma Virus. Then 6, where the Sigma Virus has become a worldwide problem. Humanity is edging closer and closer to the brink of extinction and Reploids live in constant fear of being taken over by the creeping virus. A fear that becomes shear terror as the refined Zero Virus emerges later in the game. And then!!!...uh...I mean...technically we could have the last game delve into X7 and 8...but heavily, heavily, HEAVILY reworked versions of those games...but it would be better to just have the X6 game lead cleanly into the X Zero games. Done right, these games could kinda have the same progression as the Mass Effect trilogy. It would be SICK.
@@TarvouldsQuest then there’s a follow. Loved these past two deep dives. Hella fun. Can’t wait for the mega man secret level short in December. I can’t wait.
What was your FAVORITE gag from the episode? I need to know.
the part where you talked about mmx2 was pretty good imo
I know I said it already but the "Stupid Metroid" thing absolutely destroyed me
"Which reminds us why we banned CFCs in the first place"

Tarvould, you forget.... that same gas station also famously had a copy of Final Fantasy Mystic Quest... that box art was straight fire
And Turtles in Time, Super Street Fighter 2, and Lufia 2. Absolutely FIRE lineup.
This was great man, the X series from 1-6 aged so well. love to see love for one of my fav gaming series of all time.
i hope you keep growing, cheers!

I actually never knew that! Though it could be that Serges was any other of Wily's robots in a past life too. MAYBE HE WAS A REPURPOSED CLOWN MAN?!
