Interesting, because that's sort of another way of saying that independent thought allows the robot to operate autonomously and make its own decisions in order to achieve whatever goal it has been programmed to accomplish. In AI research that's called Artificial General Intelligence, or AGI. It's actually potentially _very_ dangerous since the AI would prioritize maximum efficiency, so it might do stuff like step on babies because that's marginally faster than walking around them, or preemptively kill any human who might deactivate it since getting deactivated is obviously detrimental to achieving the goal. Zero 1 is hard as nails, man. That one stage where you beat the boss and then *the whole place starts collapsing*? And you have to break open doors while avoiding getting crushed? That was brutal.
42:48 Wily *is* wrong here. The only robots that Mega Man has been fighting are the ones Wily has been using to take over the world and destroy Mega Man. Mega Man has been doing the right thing this whole time and the only reason Wily says this is to gaslight Mega Man into thinking he’s the “real” bad guy. Obviously he doesn’t *want* to fight other robots, but he has to if he wants to ensure everlasting peace.
9:26 I think Dr. Light considers it best to give robots independent thought instead of denying them the ability, because one way or another they will develop it, so it is best for them not to get the idea that humans want to dominate machines that are capable of thought in its basic form. Look at the replicants from the movies Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2049, they weren't meant to have independent thought but still they gained it on their terms anyway. In other words, there's no guarantee that giving machines independent thought is a dangerous idea.
Dude... your story so mimicks mine growin' up. I got MM2 when I did good in school, and for a bday/ christmas present. I ended up buying all the rest with my hard made money. Great video!!
I've been working on going through all of the classic games via the legacy collections. I had played 1-6 a ton back on the NES but I'd really never touched 7-10 before, but got 11 at release. I really enjoyed getting all of the timeline/side game content as some of those I hadn't even heard of before. Thanks for the video!
It should be noted that the Wily Numbers from Mega Man 4 were actually Dr. Cossack Numbers, as the Robot Master Field Guide confirms. Apparently, Ring Man & Skull Man were combined efforts of both Dr's.
@@TheBlackMastadonte And Tundra Man is a Cossack built Robot Master, according to the Field Guide as well as other sources. Honestly, there are times when I wish the Mega Man Classic series was more connected.
just opened the book up, the robot master field guide confirms that they remain DWN units in spite of being made by cossack. it also does not state that ring man and skull man were combined efforts - rather, it confirms that they were built specifically for combat against mega man, rather than being re-purposed older units. at best, it vaguely suggests that wily specifically suggested the concept for skull man ("When Dr. Wily framed Dr. Cossack, he had the Russian scientist design Skull Man to be the ideal warrior, with evenly balanced defense, offense, and speed."). wily is only mentioned in passing for ring man. the idea that the mm4 cast are "DCN" comes from the archie comics, which is not canon (i'd also note in general that the field guide is worth being a bit cautious about in general, as it follows the localisation and its weird missteps [eg; considering break man a "guise" for proto man rather than a powerup] and thus will conflict with canon every now and then)
@@funnytoothpasteman The same can be said for the Maverick Hunter Field Guide, given that it states that Dr. Cain somehow survived the attack on Abel City from the Day of Sigma, and of course, certain information is missing for Axl between the events of X8 & Command Mission,. I didn't say that Skull man & Ring Man being a combined effort by both doctors came from the Field Guide. I think I read it somewhere on the Mega Man Wiki, or it might have been a UA-cam video. I can't really remember.

I was 7 when I first played a Mega Man game, Mega Man 2, and that is all it took to get me helplessly hooked on the series haha I love your Mega Man origins story dude! 😎🤘
14:36 I always assumed Wily was petty enough to rebrand any robot he reprograms as a DWN. (I mean, most of the time he does more than a software upgrade so...?) Or the lame answer is that DWN's before 009 were failed / shelved prototypes. (I mean, would you name a project at the start or upon its completion?)
Great video! I’ve been a Mega Man fan since I was a kid and have watched a ton of content about the franchise, and there was a TON of info in your vid that I hadn’t seen/heard before! Thank you for making my day a little better 😊
Mega man X had a massive hold on nostalgia from my childhood. The first levels soundtrack and background immediately transports me to an age of vulnerability and innocence.
Our Beloved BOAT (Best Of All Time) MastaDonte is BACK!! And he's doing one of my most favorite video games series history and the Blue Bomber himself MEGAMAN, Man I love you Donte.🤟❤
Praise to the algorithm. Finaly suggested some good stuff to me. The blue bomber was and still is my jam from when I first got a hold of 2 and played almost every main line save the first few battle network and starforce. You're vibe, manner of speech and production are on point friend. If the X one I show up in your videos is as solid as this one you got yourself a sub cause I can't wait for you to hit Zero, ZX and BN. Props.
Duo and the remains of the evil robot he was fighting crashed into an island Wily was using as a base of operations. It's why Wily got to it first and admitted that losing his new hideout was no big deal compared to the power he found.
Oh so a couple of things, Rockman Rockman is canon since it was built as a retcon for the classic games Rock is still called Rock Localizers aren't the brightest, Timeman is DRN.00A and Oilman is DRN.00B, Rockman World 2 directly caused the X timeline, I did not know that the Rockman fighting games are in alternate timeline but the reason they are is because Capcom doesn't want the Rockman Classic to definitely end this also applies to Rockman X it's the reason why the ZERO/ZX series only happens after ZERO's ending in X6 while X7, X8, and DASH(maybe Command Mission too but unlikely) happen after the X and ZERO ending, your voice is perfect for Forte and I personally believe that Rockman Forte 2 and Rockboard are happening at the same time because it's funny to imagine while Dr. Right, Wily and co are getting along and playing monopoly Rockman and Forte are assisting in the suicide of who is basically there brother. Edit: also X5's endings and X6's X only ending? Disregard them they are not canon X5's endings were retconned out of canon and X6's X only ending was the bad ending to give the player an incentive to unlock ZERO.
If I remember correctly, the Data CDs from Mega Man & Bass have a ton of crazy lore, like that Shadow Man is originally from space and that Burner Man was convinced he'd self destruct if he didn't burn down the world's forests.
@@TheBlackMastadontehey bro just to let you know if you're wondering why the English voice acting for mega Man 8 was really bad Believe it or not America had absolutely nothing to do with it it was actually done by Americans that were living in Japan who worked at Capcom of Japan and they thought Americans had no standards when it came to voice acting in video games why do you think the voice acting in the first resident evil was super bad
@TheBlackMastadonte this is a great video this is just a suggestion for a future episode of Honest Gaming History once you’re done with the mega man series. NGL, I think of Mega Man 3 as the final installment for my head-cannon. The crushing rubble leaves, Wily needing emergency cybernetics; I talked a bit about that in your Mega Man X vids. .... and honestly the fact that Wily just keeps getting away gets kinda silly xD not to mention the world itself gets cartoon stupid. Like.... come-on. Some dude enters robots into the world's first robot-championship areana and not one person, NOT A SINGLE ONE goes, "Wait... these are DWN series robots?"
i just wanted to say thank you for making this and the mega man X videos. I grew up playing 1-6 and the early X games, and your videos were a combination of nostalgia and filling in the gaps of the story. I appreciate it.
Glad to have you back dude! I pick up the anniversary games each time they're released and am currently going through the Steam ones, catching up on the ones I missed out on back in the day. It's such a beautifully-done series, and while it can be extremely frustrating with some of the strange control and art choices imo, the sense of satisfaction when beating a tough boss or the whole game is totally worth the controller-cracking frustration.

Great job dude, the info is accurate, presented in an entertaining way, and your edits/animations are really good. All the little references to anime with the different outfits are so dope
MM3 has one of the absolute best songs ever written for a video game as the title-intro theme. I used to play that shit on my guitar so much it would drive my family crazy, lol.
it can be as due to the lack of centralization of megaman lore that Zelda seems to have it is an arduous task compiling it all together and then working around the contradictions that pop up
36:58 Here a funny thing about Bass. Before the events of Megaman 7, probably during the events of Megaman 6, Wily was developing a new type of alloy in his next line of robot masters. Somewhere along the way, Wily accidentally creates Bassnium, the new element that he was looking for. So with this new material, he created Bass and Treble. Think of it as bringing a child into the world by accident. 41:08 Ah, there it is. Funny I keep forgetting that the Power Battles are more than an advert for the Megaman X games since Capcom started promoting the X series.
I know this is a lore video but you can't talk about OG Mega Man without discussing how hard the music went, specially in 2 & 3. I've been a fan of the games since the early 90's, and the OST's for those two games are hands down the best soundtracks from that era.
I love Mega Man so much and grew up playing Mega Man 8 on PS1!! Great video! Just wanted to note one thing I didn't see mentioned in the video! Rock is unaware of the fact Proto Man is his older brother. I understand that in the English translation for Mega Man 7 they added in "Let's see which of us Father made stronger!" which is incorrect. In the Japanese version there is no mention of Proto Man referring to Doctor Light in the speech before he fights Mega Man in Shade Man's stage. He is a loner and a drifter, but tends to support his little brother without revealing his true identity to him for fear of revealing himself to Doctor Light again. (But I do realise in Mega Man and Bass he is taken to Doctor Light's lab for repairs and we can only imagine what happened there)… However, writing this, I have not yet read the comics and do not know if in the comics they have revealed to Mega Man Proto Man's existence as his older brother.
My man this is exactly how I got into mega Man zero myself. I was terrible as a kid and then a little bit after high school I found The cartridge decided to try it again and I was in love. Good to know other people have the same experience LOL
NoooOOooO why did this video end! Great work sir, loved it from start to finish. BTW, maybe Wily started counting his robots from 9 onwards because he was working with Dr. Light when the first robot masters were created? I'm not sure about that but at least in the comic you showed he was there when Protoman was created.
This video was insane , I just made my first gaming video, you're definitely one of the people who inspired me to do one, almost finished with the X one, gonna watch Megaman Zero after!
I love the series, but the more I watch, the more it does become like Pokemon. Bosses are whatever the programer sees around them. Can’t wait for Mega Man XVI and the new bosses; DWN 863: Jingly Keys Man, DWN 1497: Lampshade Man, DWN 5531: Stapler Man, and DWN 3267447853367: Used Car Sales Man. 😂
Bro thank you, I love Mega Man. Had me hooked since i was a kid, First Mega Man i played was Mega Man 4 when i was a kid then played the others later. Love it.
Lol I feel you on that intro call out with early game level struggle. When I was little, I never managed to get past the great deku tree in OOT cause the controls didn't want to work with me.
"The US team was just saying sh*t, bro" @ 12:46 basically describes NES localization practices until like 1994
"Super Fighting Robot..... Mega Man" !!!
Some Classical Throwback Right here Indubitably 🧐... Thanks for such a superb presentation 🖖
your video is so chill I love your vibe !!!! Love your lore accuracy too keep up the good work!
This was epically dope!!! Man, so much lore! And you brought the “Welp, can’t have that!” A+! 100/10!! Good work fam!
Thanks fam
17:03 Shadow Man was found on an expedition, not built by Light and Wily (they did however reactivate and reprogram him).
I'm amazed that, with all the shit that goes down in the later timelines after classic, nobody tries to go back in time to kill Dr light
I've loved the Mega Man games since day 1, but I've learned so much from your video.
Glad to hear it. Thanks for watching!
"I'm not calling homie "Mega" You are now my FAVORITE guy
That's so cool man
I've been working on going through all of the classic games via the legacy collections.
Thanks fam. Yeah I definitely missed out by not getting the Robot Master guide
Cossack, he had the Russian scientist design Skull Man to be the ideal warrior, with evenly balanced defense, offense, and speed."). wily is only mentioned in passing for ring man.
the idea that the mm4 cast are "DCN" comes from the archie comics, which is not canon
(i'd also note in general that the field guide is worth being a bit cautious about in general, as it follows the localisation and its weird missteps [eg; considering break man a "guise" for proto man rather than a powerup] and thus will conflict with canon every now and then)
@@funnytoothpasteman The same can be said for the Maverick Hunter Field Guide, given that it states that Dr.
The Best Megaman/Rock man Lore in the History of UA-cam!!!! Thanks Bro. I’m back playing Megaman again.
Great job with this video Donte! Don't have much to say but still a awesome job and it was worth the wait!
I appreciate it!
I randomly have the Mega Man III theme pop in my head from time to time and this time, I decided to look for the song to listen to. Then I found your video. Thank you so much for this because I've stopped at III and I've always wondered what happened after that. I'm all caught up now.
Bruh I’ve been a fan for a while and honestly seeing these projects blow out into this scale is so cool. Keep it up fr 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Appreciate it fam
Thanks so much for the kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed the video
Fun fact: at 47:38, the "Bank Number" is the year and day the Orignal Megaman game Megaman 1 was released. 1987 - 1217 or 12/17/1987
Yo thank you for this insight!!
@TheBlackMastadonte You truly are a Megaman now!
Mega man X had a massive hold on nostalgia from my childhood. The first levels soundtrack and background immediately transports me to an age of vulnerability and innocence.
Just a minute in and hey Megaman Zero being hard is definitely valid even now I still cant beat it without the PS4 port's checkpoints
Yeah man. It feels easier to handle now, but the difficulty is still there
Our Beloved BOAT (Best Of All Time) MastaDonte is BACK!! And he's doing one of my most favorite video games series history and the Blue Bomber himself MEGAMAN, Man I love you Donte.🤟❤
Appreciate it fam
Praise to the algorithm. Finaly suggested some good stuff to me.
The blue bomber was and still is my jam from when I first got a hold of 2 and played almost every main line save the first few battle network and starforce.
You're vibe, manner of speech and production are on point friend. If the X one I show up in your videos is as solid as this one you got yourself a sub cause I can't wait for you to hit Zero, ZX and BN.
Props.
This video shows how Megaman's robot designs have always been unique
You're so right
Well, I'm damn happy I was suggested this video. It's nice to see another mega Mega Man fan out there!
Thanks so much fam
This video was legitimately fantastic. And I watched it a day before the next video drops. Feels like a treat. Thanks for the hard work on this.
Hey, This was amazing man, This was really well put together!
Thank you!!
If I remember correctly, the Data CDs from Mega Man & Bass have a ton of crazy lore, like that Shadow Man is originally from space and that Burner Man was convinced he'd self destruct if he didn't burn down the world's forests.
Niceee another one of honest gaming history wwwww
Yup yup!!
Can you do a Mario one or did your arl do that?
Also conscious left you alone In this vid for once
@@TheBlackMastadontehey bro just to let you know if you're wondering why the English voice acting for mega Man 8 was really bad Believe it or not America had absolutely nothing to do with it it was actually done by Americans that were living in Japan who worked at Capcom of Japan and they thought Americans had no standards when it came to voice acting in video games why do you think the voice acting in the first resident evil was super bad
Finally. Needed a refresher on the timeline📈
Hope you enjoyed it
I am pretty sure I'll watch anything you make that applies to my childhood. Keep it up, man!
Thanks for making this!
You're excellent at presentation, passion, voice acting, and more!
Gonna.watch the other Megaman videos!
I can't wait for the next Honest Gaming History video this is my favorite series he's done.
Love the vids, and dreads lookin clean! I’m down for any HGH that are obscure characters or characters you feel deserve some shine
Appreciate it bro
Nice job on the video editing here. Grew up in classic Mega Man so I really enjoyed this.
Thanks fam. The video editor did his thing
Good video! Makes me want to play through the games now, they've been sitting in my library for too long collecting dust
Thanks fam. Definitely give the games a try
29:51 😂lookin for smoke
27:47 actually
@TheBlackMastadonte this is a great video this is just a suggestion for a future episode of Honest Gaming History once you’re done with the mega man series. You’ve already covered both ratchet & clank and Jak & Daxter it’s obviously destiny that you finish the gaming duo by covering Banjo & Kazooie. I think you’d do such a great job just something to think about.
Thanks man. And thank you for the suggestion
@@TheBlackMastadonte If you're going to play Banjo a Kazooie hears what you have to know. The first game is pretty simple but Tooie has much larger worlds, and a lot harder to navigate.
Your first video i have watched and you seem like a down to earth and caring content creator. You have a new fan.
Great Video, enjoyed it a lot! Also, i like your background to MM, reminds me on my one childhood and Mega Man 2 was the first i played. and in have all of them until today. The NES ones i coudn´t afford, so, i went with my best bud to the videostore and we rent the Mega Man Titel, everytime for a weekend and in this weekend, we beat it. :D Greetings from germany, now i will watch your MMX video.
I'm glad I found your channel! I just made a D&D character that was based on a mix of Mega and X. Your lore videos are amazing!
Great run through of the entire continuity! Stoked to see what you do with X
The algorithm dropped this video on me, awesome job! Instant sub. As a Mega Man lore nerd, I didn't notice any errors (and actually learned a few things). Looking forward to the X video(s)
Thanks so much!! As a Mega Man lore noob until I got started on this video, your comment means a lot 🙏🏿🙏🏿
Man I remember Family Video giving you free video or video game rentals for every A on your report card. That was the shit.
i just wanted to say thank you for making this and the mega man X videos. I grew up playing 1-6 and the early X games, and your videos were a combination of nostalgia and filling in the gaps of the story. I appreciate it.
Glad to have you back dude! And, Also, while the other *Mega Man* Generations of Capcom have been Popular throughout the years, I'll ALWAYS have my Heart Set out of THE Original Blue Bomber himself: The OG Mega Man! I Absolutely Love The Original Blue Bomber Mega Man, especially his Evil Longtime Archenemy and Worthy Adversary, Bass! Bass has ALWAYS been one of My Most Favorite Epic Evil Villainous Classic Mega Man and Capcom Villains of All Time from my Childhood Years! I even love Bass's Faithful Companion and Partner, Treble! Those two are the Perfect Evil Longtime Archenemies and Worthy Adversaries to Mega Man and Rush! I'll NEVER forget about Bass and Treble from the *Mega Man Classic* Game franchises throughout the years!
Randomly saw this in my youtube recommendations and decided to give it a watch, glad i did since it was really great
The mega man rabbit hole goes deep as hell
Hell yeah
Huge work ! Bro, when a 1-hour video goes by like it lasted only 10mn, it means real good content. Thanks for sharing your work !
Thanks so much, fam
@@TheBlackMastadonte instant sub, needless to say. Any plans of covering the Zero / ZX series in the future ?
Going back and playing my favorite Megaman games is one of the best times for me. I particularly love X1, X3, and the OG 2 and 3.
The wests megaman cover art is like when youre in class in highschool and you get your friend to draw the album cover for the band youre totally going to start xD
14:44 you can say he ended at zero 😉
amazing video, loved the style and the speed, I tried watching other lore videos from other cc but this is truly exactly the one I had been looking for, super excited to see the rest of the series!
Thanks so much fam. Glad you enjoyed it
Great vid. Took part in one of the robot master creation contests when I was a kid. It was cool to hear that bit mentioned.
Oh that's so cool!! Thanks for watching!!
Found your channel awhile back, loved it, and the algorithm made you dissapear even though I subbed. You popped back up today through random auto play and now I'm jumping down the rabbit hole until your videos autoplay lmao. Great job dude, the info is accurate, presented in an entertaining way, and your edits/animations are really good. All the little references to anime with the different outfits are so dope
Thanks so much, fam!! And welcome back!!
Thank you for a new honest gaming history
No problem fam. Thanks for watching
MM3 has one of the absolute best songs ever written for a video game as the title-intro theme. I used to play that shit on my guitar so much it would drive my family crazy, lol.
Bro, ain't no way that Mega Man's timeline is more convoluted than Zelda's timeline
it can be as due to the lack of centralization of megaman lore that Zelda seems to have it is an arduous task compiling it all together and then working around the contradictions that pop up
I love this video bro! Looking forward to you covering Megaman X. Also, in the future, can you cover the Borderlands series? (it's my favorite FPS)
Thanks so much for watching fam. No promises on borderlands, but it's possible
Great video! I never knew about the Mega Man & Bass sequel
Thanks fam!
(But I do realise in Mega Man and Bass he is taken to Doctor Light's lab for repairs and we can only imagine what happened there)…
However, writing this, I have not yet read the comics and do not know if in the comics they have revealed to Mega Man Proto Man's existence as his older brother.
Your wiley voice impression is peak.
Thanks fam!!
My man this is exactly how I got into mega Man zero myself. I was terrible as a kid and then a little bit after high school I found The cartridge decided to try it again and I was in love. Good to know other people have the same experience LOL
Yeah man that game was crazy!
I've been on Megaman since SNES. Pokemon makes me happy. Metal Gear makes me excited.
13:00 that Megaman 7 first level music makes for a happy day
Bro, just the mega world series & MM6 is a mind-blown vibe, makes me appreciate the battle networks series soo much more
I love the series, but the more I watch, the more it does become like Pokemon. 😂
I really like these videos you make of the complete lore and history.
Thank you!
Bro thank you, I love Mega Man. Had me hooked since i was a kid, First Mega Man i played was Mega Man 4 when i was a kid then played the others later. Love it.
Waited for this for years!!!
Hope it was worth it
I started listening in earnest once I saw the Transformers shirt! 💪
Appreciate it fam
I watched both this and the x lore video. These are perfectly made I enjoyed them soo much. I hope you'll made one about Legends series!
As an og Megaman player I can say that Megaman Zero is a tough game to start with. Awesome video and content 👊🏻
Thanks so much, fam
Lol I feel you on that intro call out with early game level struggle. When I was little, I never managed to get past the great deku tree in OOT cause the controls didn't want to work with me. Finally returned to the game when I was like 14 and finished the game, but getting stuck in the INTRO DUNGEON sucks XD
Bro it’s been like two years since I’ve been to your channel 🔥 great to see you’re still growing and dropping heat fam🙏🏾🔥❗️
Thanks for watching fam
