Man, years ago I bought a "lot" of used microSD (Samsung brand) chips (back when phones used removable ones and I didn't burn mobile data). I traveled often and would load them with movies or music and over a dozen fit in a credit card sized holder.
I wanted to downsize and considate into an even more compact holder and I had tons of cards ranging from 16GB to 1TB. I think it was like 36 cards and I had paid essentially $40 a card (when 1-2TB microSD were more like $90).
I got a box with a bunch of blue cards (some weird name like Nexsky) that were clearly these types of fraudulent cards (worse, they were 256MB, completely unusable).
I contested it with Ebay and was like this is not what was pictured and here's all the firnware/hardware info (I forget the way to pull that off with Linux), I want my money back.
The fucking seller, his response? Was to LITERALLY send screencap AND the link to a listing on AliExpress claiming I was trying to counter scam him (weird, why you would say *counter" scam) and that I bought them "as - is". And eBay was going to fuck me over. I argued it for Months, why would I have exactly 36? Why would he know they were on AliExpress (the weird branding was not in the actual title so wouldn't be searchable).
I was at the point of having the charge backcharged as fraud before eBay finally quit being assholes about it. The world is overflowing with scummy people and it's really been ruining everything.
Unlike your suggestion, I was not able to go, 2TB for $5 from nameless chinese vendor, could it be true?
The same thing was happening on Amazon, except these sellers were ballsy enough to use the actual photos. I'm sure they scored tons of sales for $50 a card and users didn't try to load it up instantly because they're not tech savvy. I've also seen ones that *WILL* transfer 2TB to a 16GB card. They ha e the microcontroller firmware just circle back to the top and keep writing.

You likely just lost 1.9-1.8TB of files as in most storage systems work like this:
A portion of storage is used for storing metadata and a code for accessing the file itself linked to the metadata. The remaining majority of storage is actually used for storing the file data itself.
In these fake 1 or 50 TB storage devices, a controller chip tricks Windows into thinking the storage has more capacity the it actually has. When you copy files into these fake drives, the file metadata is saved alongside the file data. But when the transferred capacity is greater then the actual drive storage, Windows doesn’t know what to do as it thinks the fake drive still has more storage remaining. So the metadata is copied over(they are literally kilobytes in size ) but the actual files are lost.
It’s akin to a loony toons cartoon where a fake house is built beside a cliff face, and when you walk into the front door after putting your name up you just fall to your death.

I bought one of those back in April of 2021 that had a USB micro port alongside the regular USB A one. In practice, it was only around 8 gigabytes and the data would disappear after disconnecting it. Don't fall for something that's too good to be true.

Whoever buys a 2 TB flash drive from AliExpress for $5 gets exactly what they’ve paid for, a piece of trash and I’m sorry to say you deserve it.
Only ever buy a memory card from a reputable source to store your precious memories. If you put irreplaceable data, pictures, movies, etc on a trash drive. you’re going to lose every precious thing that means anything to you. People, please just pay a few $£€ more because good memory is really cheap, and just get something that is worth it. Although memory cards of that size are really really slow you’d be better getting a ssd hard drive because they can be ‘in the blink of an eye’ fast, or pay for cloud storage, or both!

They got me in Shenzen border mall allllll the way back in 2006. Once I requested a size the owner sent a little guy somewhere to get and he scurried off. I I'm sure they were just editing the mbr etc to what I paid for. He shows back up a couple minutes later with exactly the right size I wanted. (unless you insisted on doing a low level format before you buy, i thought about that later, but lesson learned)
