Another great video that explains the process very well. NuttyNu is one of my favorites, wish you were my neighbor. Keep up the great work, love these old Toyotas!
Oh man! I’m gonna do this for my 99 2.7L Prerunner. I’m gonna do this first then do a 4x4 swap (bought the t case, front diff, axles and transmission from a donor truck. Thanks for doing this man. I was super nervous but I feel way more than confident now about it.
Couldn't you just keep the bearing adjuster bolt/retaining clip as it was so that you don't have to clamp with the vise grips? I know this is a different locker, but on Torquemaster's site explaining how to install their aussie locker they say to not remove the bearing adjuster bolt/retaining clip when taking off the bearing cap. Thanks again for the video! Really considering installing this.
Hi, I have a question, please help me. I have a 98 Cherokee with a Spartan in the back, the clearance is 0.133, I think it's within specifications. I used Valvoline Synpower synthetic 75w140 oil. Now, what I don't know is that it's normal that when turning, for example in a parking lot or any other turn, it makes a lot of noise and sometimes when I start straight, is this normal or what do I need to do? Please, thank you.
Can't wait for the video on how it performs. I read a lot that it you might drift sometimes with it or it is be noisy. Curious how it will work with your setup as I compare to the ARB air lock setup. Thank you for sharing this.
Did you ever find out what the torque specs would be for those 8 bolts that gets you access to the cross pin to install the locker? Thanks for the video!!
@@NuttyNu I didnt watch the whole way through but I imagine u put one up front too but if you have that damn 3vze motor ur gona need to heat wrap the back of that driver side header/ cross over pipe my engine already lost one gasket that way
Put it in the rear man I have this gear set up and one In the rear you do know if that is that's a stock 4.88 ifs front diff it's sadly not able to be rebuilt for some reason
And no I can't tell you why cause I forgot but it's in the Toyota forms I remember seeing it cause I have one in my front end I picked up from a junkyard
No. Side gear Thrust washers only change contact point of side gears with pinion mates (spider gears). He removed spider gears. I would be worried about no thrust washer because the side gear Thrust surface is heat treated and the differential thrust surface is not. This would eventually wear the differential thrust surface. The ring and pinion are only affected by the pinion bearing, pinion shim and preload castle nuts, which he maintained the same.
Pretty cool. For future, “ maybe “ , even though you didn’t have torque for your bolts, it’d behoove you to take an educated guess and true those bolts all around at the same torque value. It would gnaw at me man. Lol!
Yea my impacted did that for me on the ring gear bolts with loctite but yea same for the bearing cap bolts too not really that big of deal long as it's tight in very few Toyota diff rebuilds have a seem a toque wrench yea when setting the pinion nut sometimes to be safe with the crush washer

Glad I could help
In all honesty I was ripping people up in 2wd with my locker only time I even needed 4wd was in 4ft mud or more
It's all about getting the gear pattern and preload back to normal

Good job. Waiting to see if it performs well. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
I'm about to do the same locker on my 1993 4Runner. Got the parts. Need the energy, haha
have fun, you will love it offloading !!

This is alot stronger then the arb setup it's got larger pins and is made of superior metal
How do you keep your truck from rusting out be in Alaska?
we dont salt our road. I wash mine and frame protected it with paint
@@NuttyNu i wish they didnt salt our roads, but do your roads not get super slick without salt?
they plow and throw down traction rock/gravel
In Hawaii its bad. Just paint frame and wash truck everytime we go out.
Best Hilux Ever Built!
It’s not a Hilux it’s a pickup

YES I did at that time, I dont recall now, please check the FSM for specs
What's the torque specs
This will litteraly make that thing a tank I got one in the rear and off road I don't even spin much in 4ft of mud
Yes

With no thrust washer, won't that change to contact points for ring and pinon?
the lockers compensate that I believe
Instructions def say to leave them out

Awesome tips for those caps. So you’re “locked” at all times ? No more sharp/tight turns for you then.
That is correcT, Locked in straight all time, when turning. It'll unlock
If it was me I wound have used some oil when assembling the differential especially on the bearings.
So once this is installed is the diff locked all the time?
hi, it'll lock when going straight, when you turn, it'll unlock. Auto lockers they call it
@@NuttyNu hey thanks! I assumed that was the case but wasn't sure. Thanks for clarifying!

Why Do You Call It Toyota Pickup Not Toyota Hilux?
I call it a pickup a hilux is right hand drive in my eyes
Always use thredlocker on all diff hardware. Or you will be sorry.
