Man what and incredible interview - I really liked how you called out the inclusion of aspects NZ/Maori culture and history in the game design as it's something that I'm sure a lot of players would never understand or experience.
@@a1pha_star true....like Chris and other POE devs you can feel the passion for the game in every word they tell. GGG is the Blizzard North of the last decades and one of the few companies nowdays based on the principle: "from players for players". ;)
I don't think Kripp would consider this a milestone. PoE directly owes part of its success to feedback he's given in the past. This was certainly a fun gig for him, but it's not like the PoE devs "finally acknowledged" him
Jonathan Roger's interviews have been so refreshing. You can tell that he is just BRIMMMING with enthusiam when he talks about the ideas the team have spent years working on for PoE 2. Warms my cold gamer heart.
That's the best thing that I've seen so far from this conference. I have to admit I was shocked by the split between one and two but this interview really gives me hope for both games. You have real skill as an interviewer as well. Thank you.
it wont last. the split at first sounds awesome but when you think about it they have just basically said they have made it so they have to do double the work they have to crank out 2 seasons every 3 months, separate skills or the same skills for both games every time they add them and a whole lot of shit. poe1 likely is on a clock and will be eaten alive or dropped at some point and before you say something like "oh they will just rotate 1 season on poe 1 then 1 season on poe 2 and just do a season swap every 6 months instead of 3" they cant even keep players playing longer then a month on current seasons they cant afford to be slower on anything they have to be faster if anything. poe is a good game and i love it but hopium copium about playing 2 different games that are constantly receiving updates just wont last realistically. i highly doubt the populations are going to be a 50/50 split its more likely its going to be a 80/20 split between 1 and 2 and at that point whoever the 20% split ends up being is basically eating and staying at your house for free and they have to be kicked out at some point.
Well he's nervous they just showcased a game they have been working on for years not to mention he doesn't wanna reveal information that isn't ready to be revealed yet.
@@incarnationx903 He definitely seemed nervous, I’d know because I get stage fright lol. But I think he did great, as well as Kripp with the questions.
Genuinely one of the best game interviews I’ve seen. Enthusiasm without dominating the conversation, genuinely nuanced questions, and good time/topic management to keep it flowing with a guy who seems prone to rambling/tangents (not hating just an observation) Really well done kripp
Very interesting comments here. One key thing I'm taking away from this interview: emphasis on using multiple skills for varying situations. I feel like the the biggest trap for new players in PoE1 is that they end up with a variety of different skills to use in different situations, but PoE1 punishes you pretty severely for that because of socket limitations and incompatible scaling. I guess this is the reason they decided to design gems and item swap/swap trees this way - could be pretty fun. I think this change alone probably makes the game significantly new-player friendly, even though it technically adds complexity. It just coincides very well with how new players want to play PoE when they just start.
The fact that Chris is going to hold the keep for their first game and the kinda energy John has for PoE2, this studio is bringing that *realness* that I was sure was just a thing of myth today.
Also forgot to mention, great job to Johnathan as well. It's nice to see someone talking like a real person and being so enthusiastic about their game.
Amazing interview Kripp, I had no ideia of your skills in that regard. Please, keep them coming, is so good to see an interview like that, with someone that really represent us and asks the questions we want to know as well.
At one point he was the game's technical lead, working on database and engine and stuff. So it's really interesting that he also seems to be heavily involved in design too.
@@fang_xianfu The company used to be very small, so I assume everyone had to wear a lot of hats. The animation team mentioned they had to do all the rigging before too.

One thing that came to mind when they talked about SSF is trade: How is trade gonna be handled in poe 2 and hopefully it will see improvement over poe 1? I do like the personal component of trading, really going to another player, talking to them etc. but for quite a number of items, trading them is a pain in the ass up to the point of me not even listing them because i won't quit a map and invest 30-60s into selling an item for 1 alch or 2 fusings or so. Also a lot of sellers never answering you whenever the sale price is not high enough makes collecting certain cards and essences frustrating. I'd hope for a NPC or an item or so that will put ~5 items of you on display that other players can just buy automatically after finding it online or ingame and the rest can just be traded normally, ideally with an ingame system instead of an external website that's also linked to paying for stash tabs.
I can only agree with others in the comment section that you Kripp are great at doing this kind of stuff. Great questions, getting focus back when sidetracking etc. Loved it! And it also seems like we have a great game ahead of us. Looking forward to it!
POE 2 is in good hands, 100%. I like every change they did, especially slowing down the gameplay to be more akin to demon souls like. The gold change is fine, since it will be only used for vender etc ....
Aside from all one things, what struck me the most is difference between GGG dev panels and D4 panels. I feel like D4 devs have zero passion about what they do and wanna leave as soon as possible while PoE devs have passion for what they do and could talk for hours.
