this game goes great with songs from these Rush albums: 2112 (Entire album), A Farewell to Kings (Title track, Xanadu, Cygnus X-1 Book 1: The Voyage), Hemispheres (Entire album), and Permanent Waves (Freewill, Jacob's Ladder, Natural Science)
There's an excellent video on UA-cam that demonstrates the desperation attacks. In the 10+ times I've played this game, I've never seen a desperation attack in my game, so I really don't have the patience for it.
Skeans can be otherwise compensated with dual Earrings. However, you can only use one Atlas Armlet/Hero Ring for boosting physical damage, since the bonuses don't stack. Also, throwing weapons will be the way to go long-term, which requires more Vigor.
in the advance version, the "blowfish" blue magic spell is known as "1000 needles" similar to the skill the cactaur summon in FF8 uses. it so happens that summon is also in the advace version.
Wow. I've never used the Strago, Relm, Mog party on the FC before, and I must say, I'm impressed. I usually bring Locke because there's a lot of good stuff to steal here. But next time through, I think I'll try this party. And I never bothered to try Lv. 5 Doom on Gigantos. I knew he was ID susceptible, but I just usually cast Phantom, and laughed as he pathetically tried to attack me.
I 'm at the end part right now, I really had NO idea that last hidden passage was there! I was stuck here for the longest time. My party got to level 30, so I guess that's a bonus...
I was always under the impression that the Floating Continent itself was a large chunk of the Esper World, somehow transposed and combined with the area around the gate. Thus, the statues WERE in the Esper World, until the Emperor did... something. tl;dr: Video Game Logic.
Blue Magic is great if you really build up your library. Mog's dances are always nice, and later he gets a really, REALLY nice relic (and you can make him a dragoon, too). Relm right now only has good magic stats going for her, but after she gets a relic later on, she'll be quite a bit more useful. Shadow...well, he'll be good for the final boss, when you can easily sacrifice all of your weapons without a second thought. For now, though, Shurikens should do alright.
I love this game. And I can tell that a lot of elements from this game went into ff7, such as 'materia' instead of magicite, the whole multi-party system and such.
You're wondering if the death by lack of MP was intentional? Well, think of it this way, the floating continent is magical (it being the place where the espers were, after all), thus the enemies themselves are magical in nature. Without the magic to sustain them, they perish.
As far as I'm aware, Relm is like the best mage in Final Fantasy! In an area where I like to grind later on, there's an enemy that Celes and Terra can jus about take out with two Blizzara spells, but Relm takes it out with a Blizzara and Blizzard combo (it has about 12,000 HP), plus, I believe thanks to those suits (the Chocobo suit, I believe), she's actually healed by its counter! And the Relics I use there are Growth Egg and Soul of Thamasa! It's crazy!!!
Yeah this is basically the area where I stopped playing last (never beat the game). I was under leveled, which I usually tend to be in RPGs not normally too much of a problem with a little strategy, but for those enemies... well like HC said, they hit HARD. But then again I hardly had any of Strago's Lore (probably wasn't using him anyways) and it was a long time ago.
I remember that I made it a bit hard on myself by having a party of Locke, Terra, Cyan and Shadow here. I might wanna change that the next time I get there.... At least put Strago in my party for the Lores!
I believe he's just trying to show us as much of the game as possible, so he'll be showing us how to get each one of Strago's Lores. I think the only thing he's not going to do is get all of Gau's Rages.
what... no ninja battle? or did i accidentaly miss it while i was opening my bottle of merlot... nothing like relaxing after a long days work than when a bottle of merlot and HCBaily's soothing voice. : )
YAY epic battle coming up and its episode 50! Thats a special occation for this LP! I had no idea Rasp and the level X spells had ANY use in this game. I fucked up on this part and killed shadow oops oh well. I went into this game blind!
i'm in the middle of the vid at the moment, and i found out that in the advance version, you can have Relm use Sketch and if it works, you don't need any special settings to learn Blowfish (1000 Needles)
Amazing episode as always! I dont know if there was something new you did while recording but the beginning battle where you learned blow fish had a lot of major fps issues that I was noticing.
I'm susrprised you didn't run into any ninjas on here. I ran into them all the time on the floating continent everytime I played! Also, as pointed by others, there are Dragons too, which you can get Genji Gloves from. It's surprising how "lucky" you got with the random encounters.
This group is actually pretty darn close to my final final party, if you know what I mean. The only difference is the characters that can be swapped out to do nearly the exact same thing.
Draining MP to kill something makes sense. If something's completely made up of magical energy, then how would they be able to live without Magic Points?
Wow, it seems like you got here so fast since you started, haha. So you don't like Relm's "Sketch", but what of her upgrade? I loved that later on for helping with Lores and some fights.
Gigantos can be killed in so many ways, it's not even funny..his rage casts Magnitude8 along with having Safe, so that's not a bad combination. Gau can take him down with Dark Wind (Break) or Mag Roader (Bio, as Gigantos also has a weakness to that)..probably Rhodox as well along with any other instant death or banishment rages. Ryu and Ken for the win!
Why do you say to make a backup save? Also, based on your comments, does that mean you won't be doing a Zelda Let's Play? I was wondering yesterday what games you were going to move on to, after you've gotten most of the better RPG's out of the way, and Zelda came to my mind.
Really? not Guile? The All-American hero? Man, "Sonic Boom" was definitely not a useful move. Turtling (Down and away, in his case) helped charge up your moves, though, which was good, so you could do either.. (That's what the guide said, too, hum :S ) Ryu was def. the way to go, though.
My most evil cliffhanger yet is still to come. You know where it's going to be. You know...
this game goes great with songs from these Rush albums: 2112 (Entire album), A Farewell to Kings (Title track, Xanadu, Cygnus X-1 Book 1: The Voyage), Hemispheres (Entire album), and Permanent Waves (Freewill, Jacob's Ladder, Natural Science)
Craig Willis Rush is fantastic

I guess you could say that using a beret is pretty
*sunglasses*
Sketchy
YEEAAAAAAAAAAAH
In this area, the Floating Continent, the Vanish status effect kicks so much ass. The Gigas and Behemoth battles are a doddle with it.
You won't be able to come back here after finishing this area. Also, kick ass boss music coming up.
Awesome video, I love your LP's HC!

In my opinion this is one of the best parts of the game difficult but fun.
I love the music here.
My fave character was Chun Li
Next video should contain another classic line from Kefka, can't wait!
I am really excited to see how you handle the next battle.
Nice use of the Lv. 4 Flare! I knew you were gonna destroy this game, by golly.
Ryu is one of my favorite guys too. I have almost always used him.
I love how L. 5 Doom sounds a bit like Kefka.
First time I played, I got to the part where you can return to the Airship but didn't try the wall on the left. That stumped me for quite a while...
7:46 - Haven't we all. It looks like you made one step and got a battle.
Cammy all the way, HC.
I love the party composition. Never knew these three were this good. I always walked in here with Terra, Setzer, and Sabin.
It was just for the one battle, so I've added an annotation to reflect that. I guess my computer was doing a brief update check at the moment.
Wow. I've never used the Strago, Relm, Mog party on the FC before, and I must say, I'm impressed. I usually bring Locke because there's a lot of good stuff to steal here. But next time through, I think I'll try this party.

I love that wall
all the music in this game is genius,
I was always under the impression that the Floating Continent itself was a large chunk of the Esper World, somehow transposed and combined with the area around the gate. Thus, the statues WERE in the Esper World, until the Emperor did... something.

god i love this battle coming up, i think you should turn up the volume for this one HCbaily :D
Excellent choice. Ryu has always been better anyway.
Demi/Gravity and Cyans Tiger bushido might actually be useful here. I could never find many uses for it before.
Took me until this episode before I finally figured it out myself.
You're wondering if the death by lack of MP was intentional? Well, think of it this way, the floating continent is magical (it being the place where the espers were, after all), thus the enemies themselves are magical in nature. Without the magic to sustain them, they perish.
I used Terra, Edgar, Cyan and of Course Shadow and that made it REALLY Easy for me. Great place to save up before the drama
In the Advance version of this game, it was changed to One Thousand Needles.
ah, very nice to know. Thanks HC.
The monster at the end looked like a cyclops with horns.
I was always a fan of E. Honda, and Dhalsim.
Yoga Fire! haha
Relm abd Strago in the same team are the best! Relm sometimes sketches Stargos's Lores
beret raises "sucksesfullnes" of sketch?
hahahahahaha
jksketchisawesome
Yeah this is basically the area where I stopped playing last (never beat the game).

But then again I hardly had any of Strago's Lore (probably wasn't using him anyways) and it was a long time ago.
I thought it was funny that all the monsters on the floating continent were highly succeptible to instant death and Break: Bye bye Behemoth.
I remember this area kicking my ass so hard.
I accidentally went down to the airship early on my first playthrough. I had to do it allllll overrrr.
Your walkthroughs are awesome and funny. xD Thanks HCBaily. :)
I remember that I made it a bit hard on myself by having a party of Locke, Terra, Cyan and Shadow here. I might wanna change that the next time I get there.... At least put Strago in my party for the Lores!

3:05 Relm has "777" HP
LAWL!!
YAY epic battle coming up and its episode 50! Thats a special occation for this LP! I had no idea Rasp and the level X spells had ANY use in this game. I fucked up on this part and killed shadow oops oh well. I went into this game blind!
Well, where do you want to go? Right, where's nothing left, or left where's nothing right ;p
E Honda, Atma Weapon, and Strago are all win in my book.
Sonic Boom you say? You may not care for Guile, but did you know that: Guiles Theme goes with this video?
M. Bison MY Favorite!
Well, Relm had 666 hp at around 4:00 as well. She is one insane girl.
used to hole-up hearing till i could obtain NINE gengi gloves. took SO long.
i'm in the middle of the vid at the moment, and i found out that in the advance version, you can have Relm use Sketch and if it works, you don't need any special settings to learn Blowfish (1000 Needles)
WOW guile really goes with everything, even final fantasy!! LOL
HC bailly: we need more ice aeras
me: NO THE HELL WE DONT im looking at you greatglacier (ff7), stillshrine of miriam(ff12)
Amazing episode as always! I dont know if there was something new you did while recording but the beginning battle where you learned blow fish had a lot of major fps issues that I was noticing.
Pixel Remaster: I decided to go for a magic build with mog which means he definitely easily kills those dragons.
I'm susrprised you didn't run into any ninjas on here. I ran into them all the time on the floating continent everytime I played!
Also, as pointed by others, there are Dragons too, which you can get Genji Gloves from.
It's surprising how "lucky" you got with the random encounters.
I think I was at about level 40 when i came here (grinding galore, I wanted to learn all the magic spells I could), so this area was easy as hell.
best part coming up!
This group is actually pretty darn close to my final final party, if you know what I mean. The only difference is the characters that can be swapped out to do nearly the exact same thing.
Ryu was my favorite too
DAMN CLIFFHANGERS!!!!! :(
yeah and there are some enemies that you almost have to MP kill... like the zombie dragons in the fire cavern
-Singing Sonic Boom-
Draining MP to kill something makes sense. If something's completely made up of magical energy, then how would they be able to live without Magic Points?
So many games have Sonic Boom in it, no wonder Guile's theme goes with everything XD
But in soviet russia, Zangief's theme suits better!
@SirZidane "ante" as in 'ante up"...i know, i thought he meant like "auntie" a character XD
That's because it is. I don't know why they didn't just CALL IT that.
@LinkMarioSamus actually there both diferent, muramasa is a sword from demons... masamune is the sword of some ancient samurai, i think..
Wow, it seems like you got here so fast since you started, haha.
So you don't like Relm's "Sketch", but what of her upgrade? I loved that later on for helping with Lores and some fights.
Yeah. You're about to hit the ultimate point of no return, if you know what I mean.
Sonic Rainboom!
It amazes me how you can take what I thought to be 3 of the weakest characters in the game, and make the floating island look like a joke.
Yeah, you run into 1337 quite a bit in the average playthrough :)
I think they though that energy entes have no chance of survival without energy as they are made from energy itself
killing enemies by draining all their MP would only make sense for Dragons and Magic golems (or other creatures made entirely of magic)
SONIC BOOM!
Say HCBaily, any chance you can show some of the characters desperation attacks, the pseudo-limit breaks.
@missingno777 Well that game was originally developed as a sequel to ff6
sweetness
No. Even YOU can't be THAT evil. Can you???
Also notice relm's HP at 4:00
i didn't know earth shaver was Earth elemental. gez if i knew would have saved me a lot of trouble and mp.
yea if the mob isnt a level that can be divisable by five meaning if they dont have a 5 or a 0 in their lv you wont hit
Sonic BOOM
Which one? :)
Why do you say to make a backup save?
Also, based on your comments, does that mean you won't be doing a Zelda Let's Play? I was wondering yesterday what games you were going to move on to, after you've gotten most of the better RPG's out of the way, and Zelda came to my mind.
My video paused to buffer in such a way that it sounded like you said "I love using meth... to kill my enemies" instead of wrath.
Shoryuken ^^
Shinkuu Hadoken!!!!
i'm a ryu fan too but i prefer ken more....^^
Sonic Boom? Take Down? What is this, Pokemon?
Really? not Guile? The All-American hero?
Man, "Sonic Boom" was definitely not a useful move. Turtling (Down and away, in his case) helped charge up your moves, though, which was good, so you could do either.. (That's what the guide said, too, hum :S )
Ryu was def. the way to go, though.
Ok well I got lv5 doom, but it always misses!!
Ah a RYU player eh HC? I'm a DAN PLAYER! FEAR THE POWER OF THE SAIKYO-RYU! XD
It's "ante", as in a wager for betting.
