in the original Japanese version, Relm's line on 0:45 is more like "Oh, it's getting hot here".
The exact line is 「おあついね・・・」("oatsui ne"), which literally translates to "hot, huh?".
Strago's response to this is 「若さ、じゃのお」("wakasa, janô"), which in the end is basically the same thing as "Kids!" - although a more exact translation is "How typical of kids".

And when he takes out all those Espers at once, I got a flashback of Mickey Mouse saying "I killed seven with one blow!", referring to flies, but through the whole cartoon people mistakenly think he's referring to giants.
I always used to wonder back in the day why Kefka didn't just kill Leo at Doma rather than wait for him to leave. Was he too weak at that point or did he and Gestahl need Leo to continue to subjugate the world for the Empire? I'm assuming they did and Leo outlived his usefulness by this point.
I always assumed that Emperor Gestahl never TRULY called Leo away and Kefka simply lied so as to get Leo out of the way

As for the part at Doma when Leo was called away, I've always held the opinion that Kefka planted a message on the carrier pigeon, that it was him pretending to be the Emperor in order to lure Leo away. Possibly under Gestahl's orders, but possibly not, too.
This scene right here is the reason why FF6 is my favorite in the series and why I think Kefka is the best Antagonist. He is Kefka at his worst here...Such a cold-hearted, cruel bastard that ACTUALLY wins for a while. The party has tried to stop him time and time again and he beats them every time.....until the very end
There was one time when an empire did make peace with the heroes and meant it. I was an anime called Legend of Galactic heroes. Granted said empire already practically took over everything at that point.
I remember when I first played this and when I got to this part I really hated Kefka.
I'm from Germany and love your videos. There is a very large gaming community in Germany and Scandinavia. So I don't think this is a surprise. The language barrier might lose you some viewers but I don't think it has a large effect today.
The GBA dialogue in that Strago/Relm dialogue is totally faithful to the Japanese...
Just look at the body language of the sprites.
If you didn't see any attraction between Locke and Celes, it's because Nintendo/Square censorship was effective.

@HCBailly My interpretation was that Kefka faked the imperial summons at Doma, just to get Leo out of his hair for the poisoning. Faking Leo out with his magically enhanced Gestahl impersonation is kinda the same thing. I really like how this scene was done: You have that peace dinner with The Emperor, and then Kefka shows up here, slaughtering Espers, and then Gestahl appears, and you think "GASP! That treacherous BASTARD!". But he was just an illusion, so Kefka's acting alone...OR IS HE!?
Alas, General Leo..such dignity and class. Slain by a madman, laid to rest with honor.
When I look at this death scene now, though, I get the feeling that there was more they wanted to do, but just didn't have the technology to animate. It does look like Leo just stands there and lets Kefka kill him, not even fighting back after Kefka shows his 'true' self. I'd rather see something like..he attacks Kefka, but is inflicted with a paralytic poison after which Kefka taunts and kills him.
When Celes said "Not another word" It wasn't a bad thing. It's like Locke was trying to apoligize and Celes a said not another word, as in forgiving him. Though they could have had a better sprite for it. That's my take at least.
Well, also don't forget that Gestahl lied about his intentions, whereas Kefka always made his intentions pretty clear...so I think the whole lying thing definitely adds points to Gestahl's resumé of evil.
This is where Kefka starts to show the true evil he is capable of.
And that right there proves that Kefka is THE BEST villian in ALL of Final Fantasy!
I guess you got a point there. But this is where he goes all power hungry and such.
It's really amusing to see both the Wind God Gau and General Leo setups at once on Gau.
I realized that I could have been clearer with that statement afterwards. What I meant was referring to its raw Battle Power of 128, which is the strongest in the game. Of course, there are many ways of doing better than its damage.

Locke and Celes are showing obviously-affectionate body language that can't be completely conveyed by 16-bit sprites. Relm is basically showing her precociousness and pointing it out.
Leo is canonically black, they just didn't have an appropriate color-palette for his map sprite.
Pixel Remaster: Yeah Leo's sprite was fixed to match his portrait. and Kefka actually says "die, die, DIE" instead of the weak here.
I agree, and while it may seem obvious to a lot of people that Kefka's goals are far more evil, I really think it's not too difficult to argue that dominating the world with an iron fist as Gestahl wants to do is actually more evil...but I guess that depends on your perspective.
If you go to Kefka's Tower later you can get this on Samurai dude's Rage. On the GBA his name is Yojimbo. Get Yojimbo's Rage on the Veldt and equip the Offering or whatever it's GBA name is on Gau then use said Rage and Gau effectively becomes Leo's replacement during battle. Provided you gave him good magic and attack power. If you do this on the SNES with the Tempest knife equipped on Gau with the Merit Award you can do both Wind God Gau and Leo in one attack because of Shock & Wind Slash.
I am hard-pressed to think of a more tragic, more 'setback-y' type of scene in any other FF before 11.
This probably has the most tragic story in any FF, in my opinion.

@MasterAsra Not only that, but the doujinshi in question tried to push Celes X Kefka as a pairing... The wiki itself eventually found out after combing the internet, and fixed the kefka page a few years ago. Though people are still going around believing it because some people keep changing the page back.

Sure leo can't be ressurected, but many people thought he was so cool that some people spread a rumor of a item that could do just that, (i think it was called ressurect that a enemy from a certian enemy in the other half of the game that is past the floating contient), which was never true.
"little money" "hi. How's it going?" and "secret treasure" your best lines. Theyre amusing even after youve said them thousands times. =P

Fun Fact: In Dissidia Final Fantasy, when you are fighting Kefka as Cecil, Kefka says "Goody two-shoes!" before the battle starts. Nice callback from FF6.
Good Empires? What about the British Empire? We were hated, but now Britain is ridiculously culturally diverse, more religions represented here than most other countries, including Christianity, Catholocism (like my family used to follow), Islam, Sikhism, Buddhism and even Jedi (which my late uncle was! He was kooky that way...)!

@HCBailly As someone who has played world of warcraft, that MMOs tend to be the sorts of games with the most women playing them. I encounter far more females online in WoW then in say, call of duty, and it wouldn't surprise me if women are also more likely to play other sorts of rpgs (obviously, I don't play RPGs with more than one person, so I don't have examples. But it makes sense, just because of the fantasy sort of connection).
You've gotta have the music to go with it. Heck, even Amanda's death in FFA was sadder than Leo's. Don't worry, there'll be plenty of other sad moments to go around.
And I really did get choked up by the scenes where I talk about it. Just not really during the recording.

You're talking to a guy who went to college where the male:female ratio was 24:1 and played in innumerable Magic: The Gathering tournaments with 400 sweaty guys in the same room with no air conditioning. In my experience, the gaming community has been far more heavily dominated by men than 4:1. I'd love to have more females in the community, but I've never personally seen it irl.

Combine that with the fact that this went for the entire party, AND that your chance to run is predetermined (if one fails, they all fail. Or at least i think so), you might as well never bother running in the first place.

Golbez, Ex-death. and Kefka are the top 3 best villians of ff. well that is what i think.
I don't know the percentages, but I have a surprisingly significant number of viewers from other countries, and I welcome the diversity. Canada, UK, and even Japan aren't too much of a surprise. However, I'm surprised that I have a significant number from Germany (I'm half-German) and Sweden.
More than that, nearly 20% of my viewers are female. Given the genre of my videos, I'm shocked by that stat.

ran from a boss. Guardian is probably the only boss in any Final Fantasy that you can run away from during battle.
You can run from X-ATM092 in FF8... but, what I don't get is how Guardian ends up in Thamasa. I can recall someone saying earlier in the game that Guardian was very powerful, but immobile... so, how did it get to Thamasa?

IDK why Leo appears black to you in his portrait. In his portrait he appears as light skinned with shading for darkness based on how the light is focused on his fore head towards the screen. (possibly from a shadow)

But if you x-zone on a boss in the "Later game part" it prevents you from getting a magicite. Logical error.
Yeah, it's annoyingly hard to run from battles in this game. I'm replaying FF4 currently, and although the encounter rate is even more ridiculous than FF6, it's made up for by the fact that there's no battle intro sequence to sit through (unlike PS1 FFs) and running takes no time at all (unlike FF6).

Yeah, you drop a very tiny percentage of the gold you would have gotten for winning, and you don't always drop gold, either. I think you could run from 95% or more of battles in FF4 (I probably run from more like 30%) and still have a positive gold balance.

@xXAspennXx Do people actually believe that? I know this has been a year, but that entire rumor started because of a fan doujinshi that was translated online in the US. There are a lot of good conversations on why him being from Thamasa makes so little sense, such as him having to go through the magitek infusion.
