  • Learning melodies is good but practicing coordination is another animal. Get to know your instrument inside out and being able to play with both hands simultaneously and with equal sufficiency is the goal of this video. We are used to doing different things with our left and right hand but for the kalimba, we need to tune both hands to be able to do the same things. These excercies give some ideas on how.

Thank you for sharing your tutorials. I’m not good with learning musical instruments, but the first time I saw the kalimba, I was totally in love with it. I’m determined to learn it, but can’t find anyone teaching, like you do. You are so considerate to consider us who are starting from very basic. I hope to learn it. Thank you so much.

Remember, it's all about you enjoying to play. It doesn't matter where you are in the process. There is no rush and nothing to achieve because music is just a very deep Ocean which contains way way more then you or I can learn in a lifetime.
If you are stuck in the process then the best way is to just practice what you like and need at the moment, and that will lead you from one thing to the next thing and so on.
Ultimate it will lead you on your own unique musical path. Often people try to learn everything at once and achieve nothing. I play the guitar now for more then 40 years and I'm still learning new things. And sometimes younger people can play some things better after learning only a few years. But it doesn't matter because I love to play and is all that counts.

Thank you for this video! Reminds me of all the technique exercises that I used to do when I played flute (Taffanel & Gaubert 17 Grand Daily Exercises). Seems much easier to do on kalimba rather than all the different fingerings on the flute. 😁 I hope you can make some videos on technique exercises for the chromatic kalimbas!!

Anpro 17key Kalimba. It's a bit of a no name brand really. Also it's probably one of the cheapest to buy online.

To really master an instrument it might take a lifetime. But if you manage to practice 5 hours a day you could be very very good very quickly. How much musical knowledge/experience do you have already?
