Arpeggiated chords, love it.❤🎉 I just got my first flat board kalimba after starting out on a hollow body. I think this technique will work exceptionally well with this type of kalimba.
My kalimba will be arriving this week. Can’t wait to try it out

Wow, thank you so much!
"Even if you're a beginner"
Me: what is a C major...?
Hahahahahha
Same..🤣
help if anyone knows pls explain 😭
C Major in this context is a chord. A chord is multiple notes grouped together. C major is the combination of the notes C, E and G. ON the Kalimba, assuming you're on normal tuning, the middle note is a C. The note next to is an E and the note next to E is a G. So, if you play those three notes using windshield wiper, you are playing a C Major chord :)
It's okay to not know. I only because I compose and have an understanding of music theory.
@@Imm23743 thank uuu! I know the notes on the kalimba cuz i have one but i know nothing about music hahahhahaha
Omg this is exactly what I was thinking
Thank you! I been having trouble playing multiple notes.
Thank you!
Thank you so much !
You're welcome!
Thank you so much.
You're welcome!
Was wondering how to do glissando / arpeggiated chords on kalimba. nice
Thank you so much
You're welcome!
This is interesting but it requires a lot of hand eye coordination. It sounds great and adds a lot to a basic melody.
How do you translate it to other simple songs? Thanks for the helpful videos! 💖🌻🌿🌻💖🌻🌿 I have only had my kalimba for a couple of weeks.
Jam you’re so patient and informative. It gives hope to us beginners. I put my Kalimba down because it’s out of tune. Do you have a tutorial on tuning?
Hi Terrie. Thanks for the positive feedback! I try my best to be as informative as I can. I do have a tutorial on tuning during my 'How To Play Kalimba' video that you can watch here: ua-cam.com/video/e7Pdmh2ox2c/v-deo.html
OMG I didn’t mean to say Jam, I meant to say Kam. So sorry, no disrespect. Thanks for all of your wonderful encouragement.
Thank you uwu
You're welcome :))
You seem to have an understanding of music theory, thanks for relating piano to kalimba . C-maj .
could you do a tutorial on how to find out the chords to play with this emthod?
Thank you so much for all your videos! Just bought a kalimba and I'm enjoying your videos very much!!
You're welcome! Glad you like them :)
Just received my Kalimba, love it! I would like to accompany a dulcimer tuned in D. I've tried to transpose Kalimba tab from C to D but it doesn't sound right. Any ideas for me?
Thank you very much. These training and explanation are very helpful! I am very new to playing instrument. I do have two quick questions: 1) do we play the corresponding chord for the note that we play? For example, if the note is C, we play the C major chord? 2) does the octaves matter when we play the right chord? for example, if we are playing note C2. Does it matter if I play C4 chord or C2 Chord? Thanks a million.
i dont think that matters, if you want to play a c major chord, then you can use both of the full c's, to make a proper chord instead of one. and if you want to play a different chord, like c#, you might wanna change the tuning
tips kalimba made a great video on chords
Zintaoc of Zintaoc thank you very much!
thanks for the video! i'm curious, have you ever encountered the windshield wiper method being done in a downwards direction, as opposed to upwards? i'm not certain it's even possible with one's fingers actually
Hi there. The windshield wiper method is usually only used upwards as it is quite hard to make a sound in a downwards direction and the sound doesn't come out nicely in a downwards direction.
@@KalimbaCam that definitely makes sense. thank you for your response!
is this different from glissando?
it's the same... but named for the dumdums
I don't know why, but I find it hard to do this! (especially when going left). I can't seem to slide it right. (I think tines are not all even and are like higher lower higher, etc.) but people seem to be able to do it lol.
Hey. I can't really grow out my nails, is it okay if I try this method using fake nails ?
I dont get how you can ad this to a song? Can you help
I'm finding it very hard to strum a chord, the tone simply falls flat when I try. 😔 Not sure what I'm missing, any tips please? 😔
doing this technique grounds the tip of my thumbs. does anyone have tips for that?
grow your nails
Mahalonation
So when doing this technique do you ony slide over three tined at a time as a rule???
Usually, you would only use it for three tines. However, you can play four tines (this will often create a 7th chord) or more depending on the song.
I can just picture Ravel, Rachmaninoff and Liszt's faces at either glissando or portamento being called the windshield wiper technique, as if slide or sweep was not bad enough.... LOL
Can you play kalimba with eyes closed? Like with a piano
I hope that your piano has been tuned in the two and a half years since you filmed this video.
This wasn't as clearly explained as your warm-up exercises video, but I guess if I watch it over a few times it will make more sense. Thanks for helping us beginners!
Wasn't called the glissando technique or something?
Yes, it can also be called the glissando technique.
Isn’t this basically broken chords? I’m trying to learn to play 2-3 notes at once right now.
Yes, that is pretty much what it is.
>< so hard. I dont even know abt chords
Traductions....,
My left thumb can’t do it!!!😭
Same i cant😷😩
@@shinygranger1593 keep practicing! I'm left handed so I couldn't do it with my right hand. After a month I can do it with both :) Just keep going and you'll get better
@@MiauMichigan okey. Thank u. Btw im left handed too but i just cant do it at the right 😂
