I think the mechanics being happy to help is common all over the planet. I was a motorcycle tech for 16 years in WV and I never turned away anyone traveling that needed a helping hand and a some tools. And I have received help from mechanics while out ridding… what goes around comes around😉
Thanks for the great content. That cracking sound may be your camper. If I remember correctly, you used rigid mounts to attach the camper to the frame. Given that both cab and camper are attached together, there wasn't much choice but to use rigid mounts. I would do a close inspection of the camper around the mounts, cab splice area, and walls. It's common for cracking to appear in fibreglass camper body walls over time if they're aggressively off-roaded with rigid mounts. It's safer to separate the camper body from the cab and use flexible mounts on the camper.
Bud you're hella courageous!!! I carry a pelican case in the back of my Taco (5vzfe) with everything short of main/ rod bearings at all times. Including 3x Denso coil packs, extra set of plugs and wires and even a full timing belt/ water pump kit. Most of my wheeling is within 1,000 miles from central California so i couldn't even imagine what'd have to carry down to Patagonia to feel "safe" 😅😅😅. As always epic adventures and incredible footage/ story telling. 👏👏👏
Hahah so awesome! We have a full timing belt and water pump as well as a knock sensor harness 😂 we had heard how popular this motor is down here so thought that the basics would be easier to find!
@@fraserwright9482 Curious how that works out for you -- I'm hoping to do the Pan American Hwy in a mostly stock awd SUV -- of course not doing any serious off-roading. My rig is clearly a "pavement princess" for going down bad roads, Ok, but not real off-roading. I'll stick to rural, but somewhat populated areas and smaller cities -- at least that's the "plan" -- lots of AirBnbs, hostels, odd hotel and campgrounds on occasion.
It must really be amazing to be finally reaching the country that has been on the horizon for so long. I enjoyed the part at the beginning about having a plan. Plans lead to expectations and expectations can lead to disappointments, so why have them? I have always liked to keep my options open so that every curve delivers a surprise, you guys seem to be the same way. After all these miles (Kilometers), Sunday seems to be the perfect vehicle. Even when he is down, he never gives up and patiently waits for repairs. The fuel pumps seem to be an anomaly, but maybe it's been like a body rejecting a transplanted organ. The other ones just weren't the right fit. Here's to hoping that Argentina and Patagonia bring you all of the gifts you both so deserve for having the perseverance to never give up.
I agree after 6 years we make very little plans. We haul a smoker with us. Can't tell you how much we love it. Got it cheap and add a propane burner to hold the heat at 200°f then add wood chips as needed.
Yet another masterpiece. 🙌 The entire video from beginning to end. I unfortunately talked myself out of a journey like this when I was young and free. But living it through your uploads is almost as good. Safe travels guys.

Greetings once more from the sunny south Okanagan, thanks for another look at the journey you're on. Good to see you could get the plugs and plug wires, sorry to see another furl pump packing it in, but at least they had one. So many of the aftermarket parts here now seem to be of variable quality anymore. Here's hoping the next stretch will require a tad less wrenching. Safe travels you two.
Thank you! Yes, you’re really rolling the dice these days on parts if you don’t buy straight from the source. We’re confident fifth time is the charm here 😂
I just came from Argentina to Chile this weekend and completed the RP13 as well, but from Uspallata to Mendoza (the opposite direction you guys did), and it was AWESOME! What a scenic route! I was inspired by this video, and I’m glad I could make it happen.
This scenery was just amazing! Make sure you fill up on that amazing Beef while you are there, I would call that about a $50 roast when you get back to Canada! Simple border crossings are just the best, sending good vibes Sunday is ready to plow forward for you now and as always, much love 💙
Dan Grec talks about ordering parts from Rock Auto while traveling in Africa and S America. They ship to almost any country using DHL, and have all the parts you'd need for the 5zv-fe engine. Have you looked into ordering from Rock Auto?
We have! The only reason we didn’t hear is because Argentina charges extra for importation and we also don’t have the time to be waiting for parts. Had to improvise!
The roast you cooked was perfect couldn't have done a better job myself , you guys are having a luma fun there and the people in Chile are super and nice to see you got every thing fix and they where so very helpful ,On to the next adventure and be safe my fellow Canucks ..... Absolutely fantastic. I'm thrilled to see you include maintenance and repair. I would be happy to see more. Your Patagonia one literally came out while we were watching this one. These are coming out in quick succession it seems, like you're working through backlog. Where are you guys hanging out now?
I am so excited to see you guys in Chile and Argentina. It will be great to revisit places I saw a few years ago. Not sure i miss the way the wind messed with the moto in Patagonia though.
@@ToyotaWorldRunners Maybe! I was there in November, so early spring. Was still cold and windy. Would actually blow the moto;s over. But was still worth it.
I cannot imagine how lonely some of those places are. Yet you always turn a difficult situation into a positive. Please get the spare parts. Travel safely . Ps save me some roast 😅😊😊
Building a good car for a road trip like your's is necessary I can see that off road driving has helped you a lot It has become a perfect build for your road trip But these cars also need maintenance And n some countries you as traveler are seen as a guest or a friend and the happy to help you on your way Keep it up the good way maybe with a little help from the locals Have FUN and be SAFE
Quick tip. Not sure if you're aware that spark plug wires can be custom made. You should be able to purchase the crimping tool and terminal ends at a parts supplier. You could also use a similar style wire that isn't for that specific vehicle to get by. It's common in the high performance world to custom make plug wires.

You may have already covered this in one of your videos, but I'm new to your channel, still working through all of your content. Did you at any point feel unsafe, or that you were in danger on this trip? Not from the road conditions or wheeling, I mean from gang violence or civil unrest. I'm from the US, and we just hear so much about how scary anything is South of the US/Mexican border. I think they want us to believe that we will all die if we set foot out of our country.
We felt safe 99.9% of the time. Once you're on the road, and talking to locals and fellow travellers, word of mouth and intuition becomes your compass. It's very easy to avoid bad areas, and as you know, The US is also full of bad areas too, you just don't go there. It's the same in every country. There are thousands of travellers on the Pan-Am highway having the trip of their lives without any safety issues, we promise that.
It’s hard to have a spare everything in your mobile house. Yes lots of it sounds basic but there’s lots of basics you still miss. Hindsight is 20/20. Odds are if you are resourceful there are solutions
If we were relying on luck this whole time, 16 countries means we should buy a lottery ticket hey? On a real note we started this trip with benches full of parts. If you’ve seen our previous videos you’ll know we switched from an in-line fuel pump to and in-tank. We carry a spare in-line in case of emergency, so that we can easily do the job ourselves. We were near a town that was able to drop the fuel tank for us so we chose that. It is amazing how resourceful you can be around the world if you’re willing to make the effort.
you should let people know, this was exhausting and only recommended without the filming and video editing...do the trip for yourselves next time...good work tho
