- For most Horizon Forbidden West players, you've probably been killed by Plasma more times than you've used it to kill machines. As far as element types go, Plasma is probably one of (if not the) weakest ones. But in certain situations, it can still be pretty useful.
In this video, I breakdown everything you need to know about Plasma and the weapons, coils, weapon techniques, and valor surges you need to make the most of it.

I use it mostly to bring stormbird down. Works great against flying machines
In summary: it’s useless in ultra hard
I love Plasma! A cool trick is to use the Plasma Explosion to instantly fill the Damage Meter of the next Plasma State. First enter the Plasma State. Fill Damage Meter. (important) Right before the Plasma Explosion, the Plasma Icon will disappear and you'll see and hear the Pre-explosion purple surges. Quickly refill the Plasma State BEFORE it explodes. That explosion will fill the next Damage Meter for the current Plasma State (except for Ultra Hard with bigger machines). That way you can trigger Level 2 Plasma explosions multiple times using the least amount of ammo. Best to practice on machines that you can one-shot fill the Plasma State. Fill the Damage Meter then wait until it disappears. Already have your aim overdrawn before it disappears so you can quickly fill the Plasma State before it explodes. Have fun!

I actually like the plasma ropes from the legendary ropecaster, the thing with it is that people probably looking after the buildup of plasma or tie down, but it actually deals a lot of damage for how little they cost as the harpoons explodes after a while, if you managed to get a tie down or plasma blast it’s more of a bonus for hard work, if it enters plasma blast try using penetrating rope so you can grapple strike to fill the bar. I usually take it for a spin against dreadwing, stormbird or slitherfang and it does make good work of them, just try not standing in the puddles and understand that you most likely won’t be able to make them stand in it. The valor surge power shot is really good for it and for coils the elite plasma is probably good but I like elite draw.

I also thought that plasma was just not worth it because thats what I heard from other players but this has made me consider using it even just to change things up a bit
it's definitely a lot more situational than something like Shock or Frost, but worth at least giving it a try! Especially against Slitherfangs 🐍
So far I've only played on Normal, but at that setting I've taken down Specters with a single sustained burst of plasma bolts from the Icestorm Boltblaster. It's a very gratifying experience.

Agreed, it's pretty badass when slaughter spine use it, they should either make it interrupt machine more or allow build up more damage

To beat the 900 Plasma Explosion Damage, the only way to do that would cause another plasma damage on it, so two numbers become one.
Did you know that if you shoot canister (like you did with the Plasma one as Trap) with Advanced Arrows instead of regular ones, you get double the radius for the explosion?
If you want to have fun with the Elemental Ropes, they do work on Slitherfangs with Plasma and one Tiderippers, where also shock works great. Trick is leading the enemy over the Anchor Points Residue Area, which does the most damage.

@@chazmatazzgames Well, in this case it´s simply written in the Strategy Guide. In general, always loved reading about the games, looking up guides on the internet, this time i wanted to do it myself, the rest is messing around, with writing things down. And sometimes long pondering....the last part of the damage calculation of Arkix old World Record Shot....and in the end it was a penalty on the Elite Precision Arrow when hitting a brittle target.
When the devs thought they are just balancing things but ended up severely nerfing it..
I'd prefer to have plasma arrows, but when I google searched where to get the weapon for those, I found it'd have to be purchased at Thornmarsh, which I'm not sure where that is exactly.
So I had to settle for the plasma bolt blaster, purchased at Scalding Spear.
Yeah, Thornmarsh is one of the later game settlements on the far west part of the map. Depending on where you’re at in the story, you’ll get there eventually. The Plasma Boltblaster is a decent option if you’re looking for a plasma weapon, but there are definitely better later game legendary options
@@chazmatazzgames, currently I'm more or less at the start, doing the remaining part of the Shadow In the West side quest.
Restarted the game a couple times, mainly because I wanted to do some things a little differently.
This time, however, I'm not only aiming for that, but changing the weapons I have too.
Like having a bow that fires both hunter and fire arrows (like in the first one), one that fires front and acid, one for plasma, and so on.
Last time I wound up having at least 2 bows that fired acid arrows, and I only need one.
This time, my aim is to get all the ammo types for what I'll need before getting to the Memorial Grove part of the game.
Getting my pouches upgraded to satisfactory wouldn't hurt either.
Only time i use plasma was on Stormbid variant that is weak to it on ultra hard. One shot of advanced plasma arrow of 5 purple plasma coil topples it down like paper airplane everytime.
Do you still get parts like electro then stabbing for farming sorry if this is a stupid question
Personally they should evolve the elements in the next game. For example plasma should be fun to use by making the explosion AoE also lower the enemy's attacks damage by 10%. Maybe in the third game, Aloy able to upgrade elemental potential by gathering machine parts. Making them more volatile larger AoE range, damage, build up, and duration.
They could do that to all the elements giving them more unique buff and debuffs.
Maybe be able to have more than just one status.
Totally agree and I think your last point would be my biggest request.. the ability to stack elements would be amazing. Or even just be able to stack a status like Adhesive or Berserk with an element like Frost or Plasma. It’d make for such awesome combos
Plasma can actually be OP. But only with a single weapon and only with a very expensive set of coils. You see, if you put 5 elite plasma coils (from the burning shores DLC) on the Last Argument spike thrower AND use the spike trap weapon technique, you can achieve some crazy damage. I'm playing on ultra hard and a single spike that finds its target can have a damage of around 1300 to 1500. If the machine is weak to plasma (such as the slitherfang or apex ravagers) you can see damage of up to 2400.
Sadly this is the only way I've personally made plasma work on higher difficulties... Love the mechanic otherwise!
Yep! This is exactly what I found as well. The Last Argument spike thrower, loaded up with Plasma coils (I only used one Elite Plasma one) and the Spike Trap weapon technique was the best combination I found for Plasma
I’ve used plasma more on human enemies than on machines lol 😂. I mean I get the whole concept of “plasma deals more damage on flesh than on metal” but the devs really didn’t need to make it so underwhelming, else why even put it in the game in the first place! It’s sad, since it could potentially have been as powerful or next to frost/brittle.
Yeah, I played around with Plasma on human enemies a lot when I was putting this together and agree that it's pretty underwhelming, so I didn't include any of it in the video. Interestingly, the Quen are more weak to Plasma than other tribes, but even still it's not much of an advantage to make any sort of noticeable difference

For sure. The weapon makes all the difference. Plasma tripwires and spikes were the most effective ones I found

Part one was great. This one is a joke. Never bought it nor would.
im lvl 30, playing very hard n was doing a side quest containing a stormbird and i saw it was weak to plasma, n i had a bolcaster w plasma so decided to check it out and oh my fuckin god... This shit is terrifying, killed the storbird in a minut cuz it kept going in critical state. I did couple critical hits (300dmg) + spike thrower ( about 160-190 dmg) the machine died so quickly it was fucking scary, plasma is a real monster once u get a hold of it 😭
