Awesome choice Tom!
Ozark Mountain Daredevils - Time Warp - The Very Best Of. You Made It Right! Road to Glory.
Love old OMD!
Sly and the Family Stone - Greatest Hits (1970)
A prime example of a compilation that elevates an artist beyond what they achieved with their first four albums, with a flow that's unmatched even by most other comps, starting with "I Want to Take You Higher," "Everybody is a Star," "Dance to the Music," "Everyday People," "Hot Fun in the Summertime." Damn. This has more uplifting anthems than James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and the Jackson 5 combined from that same period of 1967-70. Utopian visions from an culturally integrated band of what could have been before the drugs and politicians went bad.
Great pick fast its a great starter cd for anybody who want the hits.

Day 7 pick is Live Raisin Hell by Elvin Bishop released in1977 on Capricorn Records. Elvin an Oklahoma native heard of the tremendous blues scene of Chicago decided to make the move and seek his rightful place in the biz. Became Paul Butterfields first lead guitarist until a guy named Bloomfield came and joined in the mid 60s. After his stint with Butterfield he went solo in early 70s. Playing Rock Country and Blues with a touch of humor. He also started singing. This live cd was taken from various shows from 1976 and 1978. Members are Elvin Bishop vocals lead and slide guitar. Don Baldwin drums. Michael Brooks bass. Melvin Seals keyboards. Johnny Vernazza Lead Rhythm andSlide guitar. A 7 man horn section including 3 members of Tower of Power. With singers Debbie Cathey and Mickey Thomas. Best songs are Raisin Hell. Rock My Soul. Calling All Cows. Juke Joint Jump. Stealin Watermelons Struttin My Stuff and Fooled Around And Fell In Love. Jenny Lewis - The Voyager (2014)
I saw Jenny with her band on one of those concerts at the beach type of thing back in 2015. And I was hypnotized by her singing style and her beauty. The songs that I had recorded from that beach TV show; I played over and over !
Her lyrics were inciteful and the musicians on her band were excellent. There were some good guitar solos and very lively playing.
I finally checked out her album from 2014 and found this little gem. She sings about broken relationships and somehow the tunes are light and frothy. But no mistake now… this is good time, albeit light, rockin’ music !
“Head Underwater” has the most wonderful set of lyrics about life in general. It’s a very pretty sounding tune.
“She’s Not Me” is so catchy and impossible to ignore. The guitar is great on this song. The music on this album is never boring. It is especially good on this number.
“Just One of the Guys” is an easygoing tune that feels so right. The lyrics are very well done too. Great track !
“Late Bloomer” may be the best song on the album. It’s a travel log of storytelling. It’s light but a joy to hear.
The lyrics are almost Dylanesque in their depth.
“The New You” comes along with startling lyrics that are sure to get your attention. You may have to hear this one over to be sure of what you heard the first time.
“Aloha & The Three Johns” starts and ends with the sound of the surf. It asks questions like “is this the beginning of a vacation, or the end of our relationship”. It’s kind of humorous and biting at the same time. Lovely song !!
“Love U Forever” has fine guitars and lots of words. Here now It’s starting to remind me of Liz Phair’s Exile in Guyville album from 1993. The lyrics are sharp enough to catch your attention even if you are relaxing outside. That’s why I picked it !!
“The Voyager” closes the record. It’s relaxing at the end and you have hopefully heard something unique and stimulating.
All the songs on this album are worth listening to IMO. I think it’s just right for the summertime !!
Hi Richard. Interesting pick and article. I’ll have to listen to this album.
Excellent choice Richard, her Rilo Kiley albums are well worth a listen as well.

My pick for today is Dusty Springfield - Hits Collection. In my opinion 'Son Of A Preacher Man' is pure Pop and Soul perfection and one of the best songs ever. Dusty in Memphis is one of my favorite albums, but I'm gonna go with this compilation, because a Hits Collection is more appropiate for this topic. I'm sure that tracks like 'The Look Of Love' 'I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself' 'All Cried Out' 'I Only Want To Be With You' 'You Don't Have To Say You Love Me' and of course 'Son Of A Preacher Man' will brighten up my summer. Even when the weather is bad, her voice will bring out sunshine.

7) Squeeze - Argybargy
In the spring of 1980 I heard "Another Nail In My Heart" played on the radio and I was hooked. I bought Argybargy shortly afterward and it turned out to be the gift that keeps on giving. I played the album frequently that summer, and I've played it every summer ever since.
"Another Nail In My Heart" and "Pulling Mussels (From The Shell)" were instant favorites, but the record was a real grower for me. Over the next few years most of the songs found their way onto my mixtapes. Like The Kinks before them, Squeeze served up their slice-of-life songs from a very British point of view that totally appealed to the Anglophile in me, but which probably limited their success in the U.S. to some degree. At any rate, I love the interplay between Chris Difford and Glen Tilbrook, and I still listen to this record quite often.
Argybargy was the last Squeeze album to feature keyboard player Jools Holland, who went on to become a solo recording artist, big band leader, and eventually the host of the marvelous 'Later With Jools Holland'.
Argybargy was Squeeze's finest hour (actually about 35 minutes) and one of the true gems of early '80s Pop. Bouncy, new wavy Power Pop is what this mostly is. And what could possibly be wrong with that?
Favorite Tracks:
"Pulling Mussels (From The Shell)"
"Another Nail In My Heart"
"Separate Beds"
"I Think I'm Go Go"
"If I Didn't Love You"

7/7 - Santana eponymous debut. This was bound to be listed but Soul Sacrifice came up on the radio on the car yesterday and it just caught the summer mood. My introduction to Latin rock and rhythms. Introduced to me be a friend with two other albums likely to appear on this list after a trip she made to the record store.
7/8 - Surfin' Safari - The Beach Boys. Released in 1962 and though I was only 6, this is some of the first 'popular' music from my memory other than Elvis Presley. The harmonies, the beach, the summer. Constantly played group and music from the summers of my youth. Let's go surfin' now....
7/9 - Letters From Home - The Pat Metheny Group; their sixth studio album. . An album and artist who is now in the library thanks solely to you, Pete, and your discussion or Pat's music about four years ago. Many great albums by Pat but this one strikes a particular chord for summer with the opener, Have You Heard, and strikes the piano player in me with the album title closer.

His voice is much like the late Tim Buckley and the music is close to modern chamber music. one is not overwhelmed by background sounds but there is a lot of space and when there the music it is for counter melodies using abstract coloring. Much use of the lower stringed instruments and tin whistles that add a Celtic flavor. Give this a listen for something a little different.

Fleetwood Mac - Rumours, bit of an obvious choice, but it is a great album with many classic songs
Thank you, Pete, for your pick.
All the damn time.
My Day 7 PICK: Cats In Space- Kickstart the Sun
🎤🎸🎵🎹🥁
Life is better with music
Day 7
My pick for today is:
Gary Puckett and The Union Gap
“Young Girl”(1968)
This album was their second album released in 1968. They are a pop band. The title track hit #1 on the top 100 and the billboards hot 100. They gave themselves the name by the place they lived. There costumes were based upon the Union Army worn during the American Civil War. The band eventually disbanded, and Puckett went on to do both solo and collaborations. The group singer Gary Puckett was born in Hibbing Minnesota and grew up in Yakima Washington close to the Union Gap and Twin Falls Idaho.
Good pick melanie. He was one of the best voices for pop rock of the 60s.
@@dennisstratton6508 thanks Dennis
Hey Mel, great pick and article. "Wait Till the Sun Shines On You" is on here -- a beautiful song by Union Gap bassist Kerry Chater. He wrote it soon after his girlfriend told him she wanted to break up with him (...ouch...).
@@gadgettheratboy9051 thanks Gadget
You're welcome Mel.
I have been just recently listening to a bunch of Caravanserai
Hey Pete, I was thinking about a video idea that I don't believe has been made yet (maybe I haven't seen it). That idea is: opening tracks that best set the stage for the rest of the album. Not necessarily the best songs by that band/on that album, but ones that really give you a good idea of what's to come. A personal pick of mine would be 'Knocking At Your Back Door' by Deep Purple it showed that DP was back just like they were before, and that would continue through the rest of the album.
1. The Olivia Tremor Control - Black Foliage: Animation Music Volume 1 (1999)
2. Gary Moore - We Want Moore (1984)
By far, this is my favorite Gary Moore release. It's a belter of an album to play when you are out on a run or doing yard work. It's somewhat unrelated, but man, it stinks that a Gary Moore and SRV album or live jam never happened. It was close to happening! They would've created magic together.
Such a great album!! Can't go wrong with early Santana!! My #7: Going with the debut from a band who came out in 1987 and gave Rock music a good kick in the pants when it needed it!! So many bands at that time had huge productions, some sounded a bit too polished, etc. This band was more raw with this album, had a bit of a bluesy influence, and were simply awesome with this album!! Talking about Guns N' Roses - Appetite For Destruction
MIKA - Life in Cartoon Motion (2007)
7. Gerry Rafferty - City To City.
@@arniegries8579 hi Arnie. Awesome pick
Great choice, Arnie.
It gets a 👍from me!
7. No More Tears - Ozzy Osbourne
Chris Rea's On The Beach album was written to listen to while lying on the beach/by the pool. Great chill out music.
It gets a 👍from me!

Hey hey let's go with the Ramones and "Rocket To Russia". The album has the Summer classic "Rockaway Beach ' and a cool cover of "Surfin' Bird'.
"It's a Long Way Back to Germany!~" On the expanded edition
for this day my pick is AC/DC-High Voltage
Leo Kottke 6 + 12 string guitar
The Armadillo album cover . All instrumentals .
Awesome pick pete ❤ the album. My pick today pete is 1984 helix walking the razors edge !
I might be the only one to have this album, but damn it rocks, from 1973 my July 7th pick is "Volcanic Rock" by Buffalo.
Proto-metal classic from down unda -- I think Pete has it too!
My pick today is an under the radar artist , Michael Katon. Rip It Hard
A killer heavy blues rock album.
Hard rock meets blues rock
My choice for Day 7 is Double Live Gonzo-Ted Nugent. Back In the summer of 1978 Ted wasn't the bitter, angry person he's become. When you listen to Double Live Gonzo with sounds like a party and all the songs kick ass. Ted's rants are fun & funny unlike the past few decades. Double Live Gonzo was the Live album in 1978 for all the rockers. Remember "Anyone wants to get mellow you can turn around and get the fuck outta here!"
Day 7 - Armored Saint - Symbol of Salvation (1991)
An album I've been spinning a ton this summer. Anthemic and fist pumping, one to play driving around in the car. One banger after another: Reign of Fire, Dropping Like Flies, Last Train Home, Tribal Dance, Hanging Judge, Burning Question, Tainted Past, and Spineless. Highly regarded but still underrated.
Day 1 1978 Rolling Stones Some Girls
Day 2 1969 Creedence Clearwater Revival Willy and the Poor Boys
Day 3 1999 Black Crowes By Your Side
Day 4 1973 Lynyrd Skynyrd Pronounced Leh-Nerd Skin-Nerd
Day 5 1976 Eagles Hotel California
Day 6 1980 Dire Straits Making Movies
Nice one Guardd, I do not own this one and will check it out.
@@yokerecords803 Good deal. I was blown away by it.
Very cool pick! I still need to see these guys live one day. I was gonna go see QR and Armored in Rockford but had an engagement that evening.
@@tomp8463 I was lucky enough to catch the QR/Armored Saints show in Kalamazoo, MI this past spring. QR is one of my wife's favorite bands. Both bands have a lot left in the tank, so they'll probably make it around again.
Great pick! One of my favorite albums.
Today's pick Mick Fleetwood -- The Visitor
#07. Bad Company- Straight Shooter. This album just is oh yeah to me! But everything they've ever done is stellar. I love all three albums when Paul was with Free.
@@jeffreyflint6286 hi Jeffrey. Marvelous pick and write up

Santana rules! My pick is Caravanserai all those years ago sitting in my room- 2am! - Summer heat and humidity.. desk unit light is on... Caravanserai!!!! Buzzed from Paulaner Salvator Doppelbock and the good stuff! In Headphones.. my musical moment of epiphany!
7. Dream Theater : Images and Words
Released 07/07/1992
Led Zeppelin ZOSO
Genesis - Invisible Touch 1986
Today's pick is Jethro Tull-Stand Up. Not far behind Aqualung, Stand Up is a staggering LP. As Ian says in "Look Into The Sun", "Yes, Summer Always Comes, Anyway". Great summertime album simply because it is so great. One of the best albums of all-time. Other off the charts songs include "We Used To Know", "Back To The Family" and "Nothing Is Easy". Stand Up is my 2nd or 3rd favorite album of all-time (Living In The Past might be 2nd). That's why Tull is my favorite band as my top 3 of all-time are Tull albums. Just unbeatable.
Nice pick, Yokemeister.

Hi Zachary. Awesome pick
@@zacharyslodysko957 Excellent pick Zachary.
I totally forgot to comment yesterday, but here was my pick....
My Day 7 Pick:
Lit - A Place in the Sun
An awesome hard rock/power pop album that was kind of reminiscent of '80s hair metal but also kind of rolling with the then current pop punk trend. It was somewhere in between, but better than both of those scenes. "My Own Worst Enemy" was the biggest hit from the album, and "Zip Lock" and "Miserable" were also released as singles. But I love this album the whole way through, from opener "Four" to the closing title track. Other favorites include "Down," "Quicksand," "Happy," and especially "Lovely Day."
I listened to this non-stop in the summer of 1999, both at home and during my vacation up in Milwaukee!
Pick #7: The Cars debut
