I was a crewmember on this film, and it was an absolute blast to work on! All the human actors were so sweet and working with all those dogs was hilarious. Our 2nd AD adopted puppy Bug, and the trainer took home Benny, one of the dogs who played Bug. I think a couple other crewmembers ended up adopting some of the dogs that were in this. Can’t wait to see it been waiting for over a year and a half! Thanks for the review!!!
A few minutes in I was wondering about how the animals were treated, glad to hear it was nice. I just saw the movie and it was a blast lmao, good work
I just went and seen it twice. Friday with my husband and today (Saturday) with my son. He's 16 and after watching it I felt like he was mature enough to handle it. We all loved it, I even got teary eyed in a few parts.
this is the sickest movie I have ever seen in my life!! I wanted to watch because I have a doberman and a boston terrier. The perversion to thinking this is comedy is mindboggling. Maybe its because I am from an older generation where humor was not watching a dogs penis swing side to side.. I stopped there and rated it with one star only because of the animals. .. it should have been rated MA

I've always loved Isla Fisher, her comedic delivery is spot on, hope to see her in more live action stuff but if she transitions to primarily voice work I'm sure she'll thrive there too.

Oh man, the people who thought Joy Ride was too raunchy because it had sex jokes told by *gasp* Asian women, are really going to be clutching their pearls at dogs swearing.
WOW. I was not at all expecting anything near a positive review on this flick!
Really? The trailer looks like a riot.
Saw it tonight, was a lot of fun. Went further and grosser than I expected. Was smartly written and even had a bit of heartfelt. And most importantly, fun and funny.
@@Kris_ABMuch like Dan referenced, but then said this movie exceeded, I saw the trailer and thought of something like a Sausage Party. A movie that is trying oh so very hard with the "we just did that! Did that totally blow you away? Aren't we so edgy?!" sort of tone. Another of this would be Happy Time Murders--an eye-rolling movie-going experience. I'm totally stoked to hear the film actually succeeds where others have failed.
Seeing the trailers I just couldn't figure out who this was for.
Dan's review is pretty spot-on, but I disagree with him when he says you don't lose much by seeing it at home. I saw this last week, and I highly recommend seeing it IN THE THEATER. I laughed my ass off, but I also sort of got the feeling like if I had watched this movie on my couch, alone, I would have found it mildly amusing at best, and probably wouldn't have liked it. But in the theater, surrounded by a bunch of other people who were all shocked by the outrageous things that were happening, the whole experience was elevated by that shared communal experience. Dan hints at this when he talks about how much he values seeing comedies with other people, but I think it's especially true for this movie.
I saw this at an early screening in Chicago a couple of days ago. It’s definitely got some really gross moments where I had to avert my eyes, but it’s mostly quite funny. My theater was packed and everyone seemed to be having a good time.

The German title is "Doggy Style" and that might be the first time this decade in which the dubbed title works out better than the original.
This should have been a famous movie in the box office
This movie probably has the funniest trailer of the year, but it is interesting to know that it is much "deeper" than it seemed, hopefully when I see it I won't be disappointed. It's a rule that a good or bad trailer doesn't symbolize what the movie will be at the end.
So, what's the point of a trailer if you can't use it to make your judgement of a movie on either end of the spectrum?

By no means was this movie mind blowing, nor did I expect it to be, but it was really funny! Between this and Joy Ride it’s been a good summer for comedies qualitatively if not financially.
I'll be watching this after I set up my Sunday School Classroom.
Honestly, in my opinion they showed 90% of the movie in all of the trailers...... and I don't even think that's an exaggeration!

Saw it tonight after Blue Beetle, after a serious talk with a friend between the two films. We needed that. Strays delivered the laughs and the cute. And a bit of heartwarming, surprisingly.

Besides the funny cameo that shows up, I was surprised that Greta Lee showed up. She doesn't speak but i was like, "Hey, that's the woman from Past Lives."

Thought it was a fun time. Caught an early screening of this and i was definitely a good experience in a crowded theater. Also aaw the movie Jules that was a totally different but good comedy too.

Was 'Sausage Party' a one-joke pony? Aside from the whole "If grocery items could talk dirty" thing, it was also an allegory about dogma and religion. 🤔
Yeah, it claims some themes (that aren't notable) but the jokes were all food sex stuff so I agree it was affectively a one-note comedy.
@@curtisbme I agree that the sex jokes were sophomoric, but I think people are confusing the final scene with the whole movie. There were some sex puns sprinkled in, but the majority of the movie was about finding the meaning of "life". I liked the commentary about race relations, colonialism, and the aforementioned religion, and dogma. It basically made everything we believe to seem pretty meaningless and trivial (which it kind of is). Also, from a technical standpoint, I liked the goofy animation and solid voicework.
@@rodneycooperjr3223 It don't remember what the final scene was as it has been too many years since I've seen it. The only thing I still retain is getting bored with the all the basic food sex jokes. Nothing that was meant to be meaningful stuck with me.

Those who don't appreciate may THEMSELVES be religious or spiritual and not like being made fun of (though a couple of the people in our group for Sausage Party WERE religious or spiritual and DID have fun with it).

I saw the movie last night using A-list. Mentally I separate movies into three buckets slightly different than Dan because of subscription. Either it’s not worth my time at all, worth it or I’ll see it more than once in the theater.
Strays was worth it, but I would pay extra for it…(A-list)
100% agree that seeing it with the screening audience that knew what they were getting into and filled the room was a better experience.

I think the first season was perfect but also "did the concept" as the second season wasn't nearly as good and felt more forced.

My son picked this out the other day, thought was like a xmas movie stray dogs so bought it for him, we sat down watch it and well one best movies I seen this year. I don't care he 5 it's awesome, happy he picked it out. Cause I would never problem picked it out. Thanks kraven

My wife ordered Strays for home viewing, we have only been out to see movies twice since we met in 2015. Having only seen the trailer on UA-cam up to that point, it looked to me like Lady and the Tramp meets The Hangover. For real, our Boston terrier just now jumped up on my lap as I am typing this out
Saw it today at the cinema and really enjoyed it. Worth a watch. 🐶

My girl and I saw it today. The effects and voice overs were good. It’s was a gross movie with excessive foul language. Not a fan of it. Only good thing about the movie is it was fast paced but not a good film. If there were less gross moments and better writing it could have been better.

Hey Dan, long time fan. You're very good at giving us your thoughts without spoiling anything, which I really appreciate. But in this particular case, as a person that avoids the trailers so I don't have the jokes spoiled I felt that there was a bit too much of them in this one in my opinion.
Reminds me so much of our 'Doggy Bank' series! 🐶 Posh puppies, unlikely friendships, and a ton of laughs. Think your style meets our narrative. Would be thrilled if you checked it out and shared your thoughts!
A slight side track but still in the realm; could you consider creating a tribute to the late and amazing Kevin Conroy? He passed away last year, and was the sole reason I got into acting. On MsMojo there was a video about the best voice acting in animate d movies and I think he should've been included for his role in Batman the Mask of Phantasm (the scene at the cementary). I have a VA background and there are some preconceived notions that it's not as demanding as regular acting; but the vocal training itself and perfecting the craft may take more time than any acting school. l feel like he's very underrated as Batman (ditto Mark Hamill as Joker) and even non existent in the conversation. PS. You almost saw me as Leon in those new Resident Evil games :)
I went to see Strays last night in Threatre in Toronto at 250 seat screen. We two were the only ones there for the 17:00 showing and only 20 people for the 19:15 showing. It should have gone straight to screaming. We like the movie but the R rating killed it as the main audience for dogs movies is mom and thier kids

Yes you have a movie overload. Guess what I seen the movie too, and guess what you don't have to be drunk to see it either.🤣🤣🤣 The movie was awesome in my opinion. It was a f'king Hoot! Yes, it had some profane language, and yes it may have just one gross scene, but it was nothing over the top (not too much). In my opinion, not too raunchy or corny as everyone described it to be. It even had a senitimental story line. Those bunnies.🤣🤣

It’s actually a short film directed by Pedro Almodovar. It isn’t playing here but I’m looking forward to seeing it!

I could put up with a bit of profanity but when they go to a close up of a dogs penis swinging back and forth that was it. NOT funny not entertainment. I grew up watching Benji and he never humped anything to keep me entertained
Strays was brilliant and I hate toilet humour but in my opinion it worked in this movie and I didn't mind it
It was funny and heartfelt and suprsingly deep and I'm so glad that Dug got his dick bitten off too

I made the same comparison to Sausage Party. But I disagree about it being better. They were both one-joke movies whose one joke got old pretty fast. There wasn't much more to it. Just a few random actual laughs sprinkled throughout.
