1997 was the first time I’ve ever even heard of DCI. Thank you PBS broadcast but it was Cadets of Bergen County, SCV and Phantom Regiment that had me hooked and will to participate in the activity.
Thank you for posting. One of my all time favorite shows. The ballad...my goodness. Just park, let the horns play beautiful music and let the guard do what they do best. This show was designed to be drum corps fan's dream.
I love how some of the "new era" WGI people say that marching shows with accelerated tempos have become "boring." Not to me. Every time I watch one of these great Cadet marching-playing-design shows I can feel the goose bumps crawling up my back. I haven't seen one past-years Cadet shows yet that didn't excite me.
I wonder if it has to do with corps/ensemble identities back in the day...I feel like in the past few years, the activity has become somewhat homogenized, and *everyone* is marching a show with accelerated tempos, crazy guard work, and the like. The Cadets (back in their CBC days, in particular) were known for being speed demons with crazy-fast drill in a time when corps had unique identities (BD being the "jazz" corps, Madison being the "testosterone-filled, high-energy" corps, SCV with its revitalized identity in the late 90s, etc.). I personally love old-style Cadets shows, and I too find them exciting. They always had great ending tags :)
very cool compilation! I marched Troopers 1997 and always made sure to be off Guard duty whenever we shared shows with The Cadets. My favorite show that year!!
This was just a pure drum corps show!!! Ton of movement, ton of difficulty, ton of notes.. This is back when you actually were rewarded by judges for difficulty and playing hard parts while moving and marching difficult drill.. Not so much in DCI today...
@0:18 🤩The source piece "Enter the Dragon" or whatever needs to just be revised to go this way every time. Can't go back the old way after this.
This is one of the most genuine drum corps shows I have ever seen.
For Holy Name Shall Always Be 🎺 🎶 Cadet mello 93 & 94
Marched 1997 with Magic of Orlando. Cadets were great the highlight of that summer. Great memories

My most favorite year of cadets. Glad to have been a part of the fun #cbcsabres
One of my personal favorite endings of all time!! So pompous.... so confident...Love. Love. Love.
Still in my TOP 3 favorites of all time and I've been a DCI fan since the late 70s!
One of my favorite musical performances - this one of those shows who's music can stand on its own - you don't even need visuals to enjoy. Great video
But drum corps shows today are so much harder than they used to be!! (eye roll)

I'd say that's probably a defense mechanism to the criticism that current era shows don't have much marching and/or marching difficulty.
Haters gonna hate, indeed:)
I want the full Finals performanceThe Cadets are the reason I fell in love with drum corps and this show was the one that started it all.
Best Sabre line EVA!!! My favorite year in cadets! #Holy Name #CBC97

1:03 will ALWAYS give me chills, that whole chord progression after the mello feature, OMG
Myles Gunter was Donnie VanDoren back with the Corp at this time?
For those who wonder where the music is from, it is originaly a brass band piece called «Year of the dragon» compoced by Philip Sparke :)
2:55 to 3:13 on repeat is all I want to see while on my deathbed. Well, and my family, too.

Anybody know who their brass caption head was this year?
It was Dr. Lawrence Markiewicz
@jenkirstenjad Thanks. You're Welcome!
@BasvanBreugel You're Welcome!
Anyone know what happened to the red closer flags used in the rehearsal portion? It looks like the show video uses the opener flag for the closer.
@360Alexrules08 You're Welcome!
Great show - How did the Cadets get the idea for this music?

Where was the rehearsal footage recorded Bas? I can't recall it. Mind you, it was 16 yrs ago!
Neil Pentecost Pretty sure we were in Minnesota! Cheers!!!
I know, I almost remember this place, with those buildings in the background.
(first movement of year of the dragon)
I don't like how they tryed to turn the first movement into a percusion break
