    PPE is important! Hearing protection is a must. Eye protection is a MUST! Back in the 80’s it wasn’t manly to wear PPE now I am paying the price with my hearing. Also make sure you keep up on your exercise it is vital to stopping the aches and pains . Once you fall out of shape it is much harder to get back.

      Unfortunately we all die eventually, you act like Cancer has a conscious decision, but non smokers still get lung cancer. It’s easy to virtue signal and act like that’s the only way people get cancer is because people ignoring ppe with ignorance or most shops don’t have ppe

    I have been in the automotive repair business spending my whole day on concrete since 1992. You're exactly correct on everything you are saying. There is something about being on cement all and every day. A good quality pair of work boots is a must. You might not like having to spend a couple hundred bucks on good work boots but your whole body will feel the difference especially at the end of the day. Eat healthy and have good footwear will go a long way

      Exactly! Nutrition is so important and I feel like probably the most over looked, and stretching

    A lot of the physical pains of this job can be avoided with proper nutrition and exercising outside of work hours with strength training and cardio. Cut out the junk food at work and fast food for lunch, and train your body in the gym to support the work you do in the shop.

    Started in 1982 stopped in or 2022 and let me tell you back when I first got into the industry no one even wanted to show you the MSDS sheets real important to take precautions because if you're breathing in all kinds of chemicals and stuff you'll notice it when you get old also many ways of lifting prying always use some kind of assist device if you could help it because if you're putting your back and your muscle into it every once in awhile you're going to strain or sprain or cause a compressed discs bulging discs and I have them now that's what put me out of the business just be ultra careful you only get the one body and he's right when he's talk about eating right and doing some kind of stretch in and exercise and😮

    EVERY THING mentioned in this vid is IMPORTANT!!! PLUS a LOT MORE in these COMMENTS!!!!!!!!!!!! Nutrition, PPE, EXERCISE specific to the Work, Scheduled SLEEP, Labor Saving Tools, P-A-T-I-E-N-C-E, Good HABITS...and more...NO MATTER YOUR WORK OR CAREER!!! **One little thing I NEVER HEAR about though..are KNEE PADS for the many times you have to take a knee to get to something. Go to Academy and get two CLIFF KEEN "Wraptor" wrestling knee pads..usually $20 each ($40 pair). Wear them under your long pants. Book mark this vid...wear them and then come back and thank me! OH..and another thing...get the 3M QL (Quick Lock) model Respirator..it is much more convenient than the standard cartridge respirator. Jarrett needs that model too.

    Not using PPE doesn't make you a hardass, it just makes you an idiot. In particular, when I discovered armored mechanics gloves, I would say my life changed. Almost never had a busted knuckle since. (still situations where the gloves wont feet and need to come off)

  • @Travis2389
    @Travis2389 5 місяців тому +1

    Using PPE is important no matter what the application, but it's really just insane 2 me how often I have 2 tell my guys "safety glasses." Sight is paramount in this industry, so not using eye protection is a choice I will never understand, and 1 that I won't let my guys make, as best as I can anyway.

    • @shiftwrenchrepeat

      I agree. If I’m doing drilling or cutting though I have straight up goggles, I had a bad experience with a disc exploding, I was wearing my glasses, went under the lense, missed my eye, And cut my eyebrow! Ever since then…. Goggles

    • @Travis2389
      @Travis2389 5 місяців тому +1

      @@shiftwrenchrepeat Yeah, that is a really good adjustment to make, especially with cutting wheels. Safety glasses are protective, but they do have limits and aren't always the safest option. A good set of goggles are definitely something to have in the tool collection. Not all PPE is created equally!

    • @Travis2389
      @Travis2389 5 місяців тому +1

      @@shiftwrenchrepeatAnd it may seem less important to some people, but it's one of my most used PPE type items: A good kneeling pad. In the 1st shop I was at, I somehow tweaked my knee from always kneeling right on the concrete, and I had to miss 4 straight days because I literally couldn't move my knee. After that, I bought a thick kneeling pad and will almost never kneel directly on the ground anymore. Not playin around with my knees at all.

    Boots suck! I wear sneakers. My feet hurt so much less now. I've been doing this since 18 and I'm 39 now. Anti-fatigue mats work great too.

      I feel like not all boots suck, but a lot do, I did the tennis shoe thing and I’d wear through shoes so fast, I just finally found some that I liked

    • @sienile

      @@shiftwrenchrepeat - The boots were only lasting twice as long as the sneakers, and at 4x the price. Didn't make sense for me.

      I used to get lots of knee pain and I found switching to really lightweight boots to be helpful. Rebook makes some really nice safety shoes that weigh nothing.

      @sienile 4 місяці тому

      @@ligmuhnugs - The weight was never an issue for me. Soles always wore through in under a year. This put my spine out of alignment and caused all sorts of issues.

    too late.. started working on mechanical things way before ppe was a thing.. heck.. break pads used to be made from asbestos. Everyone driving was exposed to the fibers back in the day..
