My old dad used to say that preparation is 90% of any job, I think training is no different, if you haven’t prepared any horse for what their end job is properly then that’s when things go pear shaped. There’s no room for cutting corners in training and, as you say, there’s no room for violence.
Great videos, I keep watching to get inspiration for things to train my own little pony so he will be totally prepared for driving when he gets old enough xxx
he is a lovely well behaved gentleman through and through, wish him all the best for the bright future ahead of him
A true horseman. Absolutely brilliant man
A sweet baby and you stay so soft with him! Learn gently can be years on pleasure...
I think they like hearing your voice.
What a peach he is! Hope you are feeling well now.
Glad to see you looking well Barrie and praising Rhi for taking the reins while you were away.
He's a gorgeous boy!
Thank you for this amazing post. He handled all the traffic and everything beautifully. The traffic circles intimidate me while driving a car so I am doubly impressed. And I understand your appreciation of his sound, sensible mind.
He’s a lovely lad 😻
Lovely video (as always). So good to see the confidence building in the horse.
Always love listening to your change of subject mid-topic. Makes it feel more natural, like you're talking with a friend. Lovely horse, he's doing quite well!
Another great instructional video, well done both of you! I train dogs but the principle is the same - never blame the animal. If they don't do as required the handler hasn't got it right. The compliance comes from correct communication. I hope you recover well and fully, Barry.
That was lovely, what a beautiful boy. Thank you Barry & Rhi
Nice stallion, nice hat. Rhi is a star.
Thanks, Anna!
What a superstar Comet is 😊 xxxx just like us humans gear changing. It takes practice 😂 it's lovely to hear your praises of Rhi. Always quiet in the background but obviously a great horsewoman. ❤ I love watching the round ups. Thank you for always giving your knowledge. Enjoy your coffee☕️ and I'm sure Comet will enjoy his carrot 🥕 xxxx
Thank-you, Sue - we certainly did!
Lovely Welshie. How tall is he?
About 14.2hh or thereabouts!
How do you get this far?
It looks
as can be
(from you)
Making it easier for horses
to be good carriage horses
as people,
good drivers or even horse trainers.
Why?
Or in other words:
It is easier for horses to become good carriage horses
under your guidance,
than humans
a good coachman
or even horse trainers.
Why?
But
I saw
a 4 ft.-boy
driving a two-horse team
alone,
just with his
younger sister
sitting next to him.
Because horses like to give away their trust
and follow a welldoing superiority?
Following means to obey
and both means looking for a leader.
People,
on the other hand,
rarely have the willingness
and that interest
into a horse
to empathize
as well as responsible for it
to lead, i.e. to do justice to it.
They want to use it,
like an object,
not as an subject.
don't understand/recognize.
Which man tries to understand his wife?
Many aren't even interested
in their own person,
to understand themself.
Why then understanding someone else
and to that a poor animal like a horse?
Jabbing him in the mouth is making this horse flinch .
The horse is not doing any routine work here.
It is constantly confronted with new objects,
noises, surroundings, smells.
That the horse is just conspicuous
moved his head
is a great achievement for both
the horse and the trainer!
Is Rhi your wife?
No, Rhi is essentially one of Barry's grandsons.
