“I’m not sure I’m going to be able to hold them off” 😢 I wanted to give Jim a big hug in that moment. Thanks for sharing this inside view of your life and race. Very excited that you’ve remained in France to continue to push towards winning UTMB. 🥇
Moments like that are what make our sport so special I think. And I think Jim, being a part-time animal and also occasionally being publicly vulnerable is definitely why he has so many diehard fans-myself among them. Jim ftw in 2023!
This is why Jim Walmsley is my favourite athlete of all time. Talent and wins aside, the honesty, the passion for the sport and the positivity he’s able to pluck from each run is truly inspiring. Thanks Jim.
Ultra Running shows every side of humanity. Mind over matter, and what one is truly capable of doing. It is a rare insight to how being in nature day into night, transcends the physical mental and spiritual presence of a human soul. An awesome series, featuring an awesome athlete and his incredible partner.
Best wishes on 2023 UTMB! Living there is a great idea. Just returned to US from living 20 years in Europe. We loved our life there. The film brings back so many european memories!
The real greatness is the relationship between Jim and Jess. Both of you have won that greatest prize. Learn the mountains, keep running, and even greater things will happen.
Great video! Walmsley is still in any fox hole of anyone on this comment section! He's a grinder when needed and a course smasher most of the time! He grinded here for a very respectable finish!
When he said "a laugh came out, I guess this is where I'm at" I got super emotional. I only run for pleasure but I've been in that exact same head space where I hurt so bad that I could only laugh to myself with miles and miles left to go. That's a weird place to be mentally and his statement brought me right back there. Just keep moving is all you can do, just don't stop - that's what I would tell myself. I can't imagine what the thoughts are when you go through that as a world class athlete in the biggest race of the year.
This video is AMAZING!! I stayed up all night watching this unfold live and I wanted Jim to win so bad but he is also my hero. Every ultra runner has been where he was (sort of) and there is just nothing you can do but learn from it and push through. His attitude is so amazing and 2023 is a new year and I can't wait to see how he does:) Amazing job Hoka, Wahoo and Jim.....and Jess:) Keep being awesome.
Really touching moments in this film. Very well done to both of you for embracing a new life in the French Alpes and keeping many people's dreams and hopes alive. I will take part in the race this year. See you on the trail ! Jim better watch out! 😅💓
Not what he expected to be but no matter what getting him all the way to the finishing line. True grit and determination. Another exciting race ahead for this 2023 and looking forward to see what Jim is capable after being more adapted to the European mountains. Way to go!
Great story Jim! And yet so many stories ahead! I was honoured to meet at MIUT conference, much love from Finland! Have a best of prepation for the upcoming season! Your're the best! Keep digging!
Wow. Jim just looked so destroyed and defeated!! Anyway, what a great effort that was. Im sure that when he keeps digging and pushing his limits, it's just a matter of time that he will master the UTMB course as well. Much respect for Jim as well as for Jess!
Excellent! Watching this video reminded me how exciting the UTMB 2022 was. Epic. This sport is amazing and even the last person to reach the end of this race is a hero/heroine. All the best to Jim!
Amazing stuff. How anyone keeps their system from shutting down and forcing a rest is amazing to me. Just from my limited marathon experience, 5, it's difficult to imagine forcing food upon yourself. Much respect to Jim and all the ultra-runners out there.
Watching Jim grow as an athlete and human is so inspiring. To see that the best in the world face the same struggles us mere mortals face as well, all of us able to learn valuable life lessons just the same...truly incredible. Thank you for making this series.
Anyone in the world would be happy with 4th at UTMB. You did so well Jim! So tough to keep climbing for 50k after bonking. Jim is definitely on track for a win after that journey.
Great vid and still an inspiration despite the “less than desired” outcome. I know pros are in a whole other level, but 21 hrs and change at UTMB is mind boggling.
Thanks for sharing these moments. Awesome ! We wish you a wonderful and successful year for 2023 👍👍👍 May your expectations come true and thanks for being a source of inspiration for us 🙂🙂🙂
(In 3D) 😅
"This was the True Man of old: his bearing was lofty and did not crumble; he appeared to lack but accepted nothing; he was dignified in his correctness but not inisistent; he was vast in his emptiness but not ostentatious. Mild and cheerful, he seemed to be happy; reluctant, he could not help doing certain things; annoyed, he let it show in his face; relaxed, he rested in his virtue. Tolerant,' he seemed to be part of the world; towering alone, he could be checked by nothing; withdrawn, he seemed to prefer to cut himself off; bemused, he forgot what he was going to say. He regarded penalties as the body, rites as the wings, wisdom as what is timely, virtue as what is reasonable. Because he regarded penalties as the body, he was benign in his killing. Because he regarded rites as the wings, he got along in the world. Because he regarded wisdom as what is timely, there were things that he could not keep from doing. Because he regarded virtue as what is reasonable, he was like a man with two feet who gets to the top of the hill. And yet people really believed that he worked hard to get there." Allez Jim!

Gut wrenching moment for sure.
I just watched the 3 episodes. I almost cried at work when he said that 😆
Definitely had me in tears. Jess did an amazing job showing him he is loved and worthy no matter the race outcome.
Moments like that are what make our sport so special I think. And I think Jim, being a part-time animal and also occasionally being publicly vulnerable is definitely why he has so many diehard fans-myself among them.
Jim ftw in 2023!
“I have one speed and it’s forward” love that mantra in a tough moment. 16:54
Coming from Billy's A Love Story to this has me all sorts of emotional. Jim and Jess are a great team.
Lol same!
Same
Same here 😊
Same 😊
Yup, same
This is why Jim Walmsley is my favourite athlete of all time. Talent and wins aside, the honesty, the passion for the sport and the positivity he’s able to pluck from each run is truly inspiring. Thanks Jim.
My word. He is a great role model. And he will be back, cross the line first and know its because of everything thats gone before.
Francois’ quiver is the best thing about this. Love their friendship
What a couple! Who cares who wins. "Just do your best. It's fine." Great to see them work together!
Amen!!!❤🙏
He can achieve anything with Jess in his corner. What a rock of support, gratitude and positivity.
This video made me cry no lie.... We love you Jim for all your hard work
Jim, thanks for the vulnerability and for being human! Props! Wow that was inspiring.
I'm glad Jim finished UTMB even if it wasn't the result he wanted he still finished and got it done 👍
The love between you, therein lies the victory!

True grit and a such beautiful moments between You and Jessica😊
Amazing Jim, the way you pushed through was way more inspiring than setting a new course record. You are a lovely couple!
Even more valuable in retrospect 🤩
The power of turning perceived failure into building blocks to success is a marked attribute of the successful among us.
That last 10s of revelation is all that will really matter 10 years or 30 years from now. Go Jim!
What a beautiful couple! Rock on Jim! Keep inspiring. What a trooper!

It’s ok, just do your best. “What a hero”
So proud of Jim at UTMB 2022. Absolutely loved watching him on the big screen... my heart was with him!!!
Brilliant Film, Jim's reach goes way beyond Ultra Running. Best of luck to you and your loved ones for 2023.
Never EVER underestimate the restorative powers of a simple and meaningful hug. Well done for finishing. Plenty didn't.
Jess is amazing! Great partner for Jim. Awesome story!!!
May lessons learned from 2022 lead to a stronger 2023! And this video clearly shows that Jim's greatest blessing is his wife.
Great video! Walmsley is still in any fox hole of anyone on this comment section! He's a grinder when needed and a course smasher most of the time! He grinded here for a very respectable finish!
Bravo Jim! Your grit is beautiful. Jim-spiring! And what a great woman by your side, she deserves a medal.
Great Video! Good Job Jim! Im not crying you're crying

Congratulations to Jim for finally cracking the code and winning UTMB this year! Can't wait for part 4 of this fantastic story.
Dang that last part was powerful. Sitting here tearing up at work. What an inspiration!

Wow. Jim just looked so destroyed and defeated!! Anyway, what a great effort that was. Im sure that when he keeps digging and pushing his limits, it's just a matter of time that he will master the UTMB course as well. Much respect for Jim as well as for Jess!
An inspiration to me through and through but his body looked so hollow even before the race. Did not appear rested and ready.
@@kellenscott555 he always looks like that from what I've seen
Jim and Jess you both are such inspiration ❤
Thanks Jim! I'm even more inspired by the breakdown than I would have been by the first-place win. This is what it's all about.
So good and this last sentences really got me. Support is so important!
thanks for the video wahoo! and thanks for the inspiration Jim !!!
Excellent! Watching this video reminded me how exciting the UTMB 2022 was. Epic. This sport is amazing and even the last person to reach the end of this race is a hero/heroine. All the best to Jim!
An amazing athlete and an amazing person. Go Jim!
This was beautiful! Jim and Jess are so adorable!
Great video. Just goes to show that even the best in the world can have bad days and how brutal UTMB is. Onwards and Upwards Jim!
What an effort by Jim! Not the outcome he expected but he’ll come back stronger 💪
Ohmygosh, I just clapped for him leaving Vallorcine like he could hear me! Love that you shared this experience with us and good luck going forward!
Love this! See the ups and downs of this sport! Keep up the good work , Jim! 👍
A real inspiration...guy put all his chips in...moved to France...still got beaten up...and then 2023.
This kind of videos are really inspirational, brilliant. Phenomenal Athlete Walmsley
Truly inspirational. To take a time of disappointment and find the silver lining and focus on the growth is beautiful. Thank you for sharing this.
Amazing stuff from the man himself, just a savage and an inspiration
So much respect to you jim ❤
Grande Jim! You will make it, I am sure. Forza!!!
Fckn GOAT, thanks Wahoo for this incredible series.
Very inspirational. Thanks for sharing the race experience with us.
Jess is such a hero!
Wow. The perfect ending to a video
God, they love and complement each other so much. I wish I had a partner like her.
Amazing stuff. How anyone keeps their system from shutting down and forcing a rest is amazing to me. Just from my limited marathon experience, 5, it's difficult to imagine forcing food upon yourself. Much respect to Jim and all the ultra-runners out there.
Amazing, thank you for inspiring and motivating me once again!

“In the last 6 hours of the race I did a year’s worth of thinking.” The depths of the pain cave is an incredible place.
5 seconds into the video i was like "wait is that francois' quiver?" and it actually is :)
Anyone in the world would be happy with 4th at UTMB. You did so well Jim! So tough to keep climbing for 50k after bonking. Jim is definitely on track for a win after that journey.
Thank for sharing. A beautiful film.
Jim is such an inspiration!

Thanks Jim 🙌
Legit started crying when he said “I’m not sure I’m going to be able to hold them off.”
True grit there, mate. Still a great race, and excited to see how this builds you. Maybe I'm a softy, but that last scene was ❤!
Wot a man. Absolutely brilliant 👍🏃🏻♂️🌲💪
Way to keep digging Jim. Hope to be at your level one day. Cheers

Great insight into an emotional abyss.
C'est impressionnant jusqu'où il s'engage... il y a tellement à améliorer sur les ravitos. Les redbull à tout va il a pas le droit il se met une belle dans le pied
Best one yet.
Well done Jim!
I like that you need to travel through several countries and drive for hours just to assist a runner. Says something about UTMB.
I hope there’s a part 4 after UTMB 2023 🎉 🥇
You simply are beautiful people!
Love you Jim!
Hope he wins it this year
That was awesome!!!
His accent is developing
It’d be fun to see a Jim & Francois vs Kilian at UTMB
i love my wahoo trainer and hoka shoes
Come on Jim !!
