great vid i have exact truck only 1 year newer then yours .same camper mine is the .real-lite 1608 .that idea for bottom bunk is awsome .it's a pain to use for the reason you said .i will get a topper for mine now.
@@SewingBoxDesigns WIndex will slowly and steadily degrade plastic. It's for glass. Not plastics. I don't think he knows that, which is the reason for my question to him. The sooner he stops, the better.
Those portable panels are great when you are staying in a spot for a stretch and they can kinda stay out, but when you are only gonna drop them for partial days you aren't gonna have time for much of a charge.
My experience is different. When flat panels are on the roof, you have to park in the sun and heat up EVERYTHING in the camper and you are still getting enough sun to make a difference only in the hottest part of the day. With suitcase panels you can move them and tilt them to maintain efficiency for hours. If all you are doing is topping off a jackery, you have what you need everyday while you are parked in the shade. The best solution is basic roof mount and a suitcase set. Easy to meet all your needs with minimum hassle.
That putting on the sheet looked like a “I love Lucy” sight gag. ( I realize many of your watchers may not be as old as I am… ) but it was funny. Thanks for sharing your journey.
Maybe I missed it but can you talk about why you chose a pickup and truck camper this time? Is it to have better 4x4 capability? Separation between driving and living space? A van just seems like it would be more comfortable. With high gas prices how does this compare to the NV or Toyota?
Hey Nate, what about your heater? How is that powered? Our's is propane with an electric fan and it drains our battery rapidly. Would be interested to hear how you deal with your's.
That's a good idea for higher profile vehicles that wouldn't get banged into accidentally. My only concern would be that it would limit parking options, having to always park so the panels had sun.
I see that Renogy has a sale deal on their DC/DC chargers for the next few days. Their 40a one is just $130. I put one in my minivan without upgrading the alternator and under-hood cables. So I just run it at 20a (40a would probably be OK too, but I don't need to charge that fast). It's a good supplement/alternative to solar, especially for a rig that's on the move a lot. The hard part was running correctly sized power cables from under the hood to the charger, which is near the LFP battery. I don't have to look for sunny campsites. :)
I agree and have used the flemsy panels. You get little wind they fall down. I like you are trying those and will give solid review. Love the solid legs.
Just put a few panels on your roof and add a DC2DC charger and you're all good. The portable panels are great but eventually you just stop putting them out and then you have to worry about someone stealing them if you're not there. Love your truck camper.
Bro, you're going to get MOLD under that mattress due to condensation from you just breathing in that camper. You gotta start watching the mistakes others make before you make them.
They do make a step for a receiver hitch that will help getting in and out of the camper. Probably can find one at Walmart, Tractor Supply, or Amazon. Just be careful of your shins if you get one.
The portable panels sound like a good idea but I think they would be inconvenient. If you are parked in a parking lot or rest area, do you really want to have your panels and jackery laid outside of the camper.. I think a more long term solution is permanent panels on the roof. Renogy makes 175w panels and they are the perfect size on truck camper roofs. And check out rving with Tito as he shows a way to mount panels without drilling them into the roof membrane. Can't wait to see how you setup this camper for long term use. We've been living in our truck camper for 3 years. Just got back into the USA from a 9 month trip through Mexico and Guatemala.
You may be able to get more juice out of them by optimizing the angle based on where you are located at the time, especially if you are only going to have them out part of the day.
@@asdadasdasd4594 Wasn't sure if it stands were adjustable like that or not. Figured worth mentioning. There are apps that can quickly tell you the optimal angle for where you are and when.
@@bozardio No app needed. Straight at the sun, at a 90 degree angle. That being said, changing the angle 5 or more times each day gets old fast. The real solution is a commercial grade, large solar panel on the roof of the camper. You can get panels with 600 watt that will easily fit, and they produce 600 watt when the sun is up high, unlike all this over-rated and over-priced consumer crap.
I have owned a few RVs. I have been in 100s over the last 20 years. Why is it that no engineer can build a bed that is simple to make in an RV? It can not be that hard. Even "walk around" beds can be very challenging.
I Think the BOUGE-RV People are going to Ask for this Sponsored Video to be Removed Due to the Fact that it features a Defect in their Product. Those portable panels suck. Just put a 400w panel on the roof and call it done. And/ or get a higher output alternator and dc to dc converter. I have watched your videos off and on for years. You waste so much money on trying to save a buck.
you should try putting your Max fan on while closing your camper, the negative pressure should pull in your canvas while it goes down.
That is one sport I never understudy

How well do the bougerv portable panels when shade hits a corner or partial shading? Been looking for something that still brings power on cloudy days
Love the water you have a lot of sleeping space.

Are you spraying non-glass/plastic with Windex? @Element Life
Plain water and paper towels are the best for glass and plastic. But WD-40 is great for tree sap. Then water and towels.

Why don't you pit them on the passengers side

🤔 How long before Nat has buyer regrets again.
I'd install the legs to the side of the camper, so you can tilt them upwards into the sun and keep them flat to the side when driving.
That's a good idea for higher profile vehicles that wouldn't get banged into accidentally. My only concern would be that it would limit parking options, having to always park so the panels had sun.
Ideally, solar panels doubling as window awnings? 🤔
I'm liking the idea of suitcase solar panels, but if you set them out what stops some one from just walking off with them? Maybe a bike lock cable?
