He is one generation after Carreras, Pavarotti and Domingo (I assume these are the big 3 you talk about?) and back when he started his career he used to sing bel canto having moved towards late romantic and verismo only recently. The question is why is he not a superstar right now but the answer that we all know that this demands much more than “only” the voice nowadays.

Did you hear last week's performance of this opera? At, sixty-nine, one of the best interpreters of Radames that I have heard. I've heard Domingo, Pavarotti, blah, blah, blah, in person. That he could do such at this stage in his life is amazing.
