  • Hi guys and galls :) This is the very first episode of Back to Basics where I cover basic topics about the doll hobby. Todays video will show you how to insert eyes into a doll. I hope you find it useful! Let me know what you think and if you have any suggestions about a future topic for this series xoxo

I know when I first got into the hobby, the idea of restringing made me nervous. Perhaps a "basics of restringing" video would help some people out. :)

Yes, PLEASE more basic tutorial videos. I have just started this hobby and I can't get enough of anything about it. I find that a lot of people leave small parts out, however, which to a person who is new to the hobby, can be a HUGE detail.
I also would like to see more about Monster High Dolls. I almost gave up until I came across a doll that had a resin? head? Much harder and SO much easier to get color to lay down. I didn't have to use near as much MSC either! I guess it just takes a lot of patience to work on Monster High Dolls. When I first started, I just assumed that I would be cutting the eyes out and inserting other real looking eyes. After absolutely ruining a few doll heads, I was left unsure of what to do. You make it look so easy, but I know that it isn't. Does it just take a lot of practice? Because if I mess up a doll by drawing the eyes, that's easy enough to redo. But, if you mess up a head by trying to cut the eyes out, it's just ruined. There are no do-overs. I know I'm rambling, so yeah, something really specific on cutting out eyes on Monster High or I guess Ever After dolls. Thank you Nicolle! You are so awesome and talented!

Please continue this back to basics series. I want to get more into the ball-jointed doll collecting the only one I have currently is a Freya but would love to someday get a Dollfie Dream. I am a very big doll collector mainly vintage Barbie, Monster high and Ever after high. Watching your videos on face ups has inspired me to take my doll obsession to a new creative level. Please continue to share your talents

I would love to see many more videos in this series. I'm very interested in dolls (both BJD and other types), but I'm scared of getting into it as a hobby because it seems difficult, and beginner's information isn't always easy to find. Things many newbies wonder is where/how to buy dolls and doll parts, how you put together the parts (such as this eye video), how you paint dolls (of course your faceup stories are already great, but maybe you could make more tutorials for it too?), how you can use/make wigs or reroot hair... etc. So I think any and all tutorial videos would be fantastic. Thank you for your hard work always, I haven't commented before, but I love your faceup videos! :-)

I think this is going to be a great series Andreja! I already knew how to apply eyes correctly, but never thought to use a brush to push the putty down for extra security. Hope you'll make more :)

It's something "basic" as you say, but when it's your first time trying to put eyes on a doll, it's very, very complicated, I had to do a lot of research, even I try three times... I think it's very good, not to take for granted that tiny things that "every" collector must know, because not everyone are "experts" so... keep making this, and thank you.

Thank you so much Nicolle. There I was putting really too much putty and not pressing it in place solidly enough - great idea the rounded pencil - and it never stayed in place. So you've given me the solution to end my crooked eye dolls. Thank you!

Thanks! My first Pullip doll doesn't have the eye mechanism, so I followed this guide to attach her eyes to her head. It was a bit harder, since she didn't have a place to put the eye and I had to put extra BlueTack to keep the eye in place, but it was this video that gave me a solution :).

    Hi Nicolle,
I was wondering if you could make a video about how to put a spring back into a Blythe doll ...
Is it necessary to have one put back??
I have taken apart numerous dolls heads now but Im still not able to put the spring back.
My dolls, turned out really nice after I customised them but Im having trouble with the eyes they don't work as well anymore I have to use my hand to change the eye chips. By pulling the strings on the doll are just not enough to open their eyes. They don't do the whole job they only open half way.
    Could you help me please??
    Regards,
    Katalin

On my previous comment, I would like to apologize for calling you Nicolle instead of Andreja. I'm sure you get that a lot, but I should know better with as many videos of yours that I watch. I rarely comment on ANY video though. I think I was just over-excited. Lol. I should probably also apologize for asking questions like 5 years after the video was posted. Hopefully, you'll still get my questions though.
So, of course, I have one more question. I have an airbrush and I would really like to utilize that with face-painting. Especially Monster High repaints. Do you have any video tutorials on that? Ideas? Suggestions? Advice?
I tried to keep it to one question, but what can I say? Oops, there's another one. Lol.
