    First time I saw him I took my mom. I was around 30. She absolutely adored and loved him. It was the old Chicago Stadium and the stage was in the round in the middle. When they first introduced him they had turned off the lights and he was standing in a runway. They threw the spotlight on him and he walked thru the runway and up to the stage. By the time he got there the audience was already in a frenzy clapping hysterically. My mom almost fainted. He bowed to each side never said a word and the place went nuts. Out of control. Finally he just thru his arm at the orchestra and they started playing and the crowd became quite and listened. Never forget how happy my mom was. I’m still listen to him almost daily. I’m 79 now.

    • @TheStockwell
      @TheStockwell 9 років тому +3

      I've got a lot of his recordings, beginning with the Harry James stuff up to the Duets recordings. What always gets to me is how he tried just about everything, that the finger-snapping Chairman of the Board image ignores the sheer scope of what he tried out at one time or another. His excursions into jazz, his crazy experiments like the Jobim sessions, the Rod McKuen album, his work with the fellas who did Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons' albums, the Basie sessions, the album he did with the Hollywood String Quartet, his two shots at disco (Yikes!), the albums he conducted, starting his own record label, having a career that went on decade after decade, not to mention him practically inventing the concept album and microphone technique - wow.
      He never got into rock - hated the stuff - but his favourite Beatle was George and he recorded a one-copy-only special version of "The Lady is a Tramp" for Ringo's wedding. Oh, and he did a duet with Bono. He got a lot done in the 60 years he was in front of a microphone. When people tell me how the whole Rat Pack thing doesn't work for them, I lend them the "Watertown" album. That gets a LOT of conversations started.
      Anyone naming ANY singer the greatest of all time can't prove it. It's not like a sporting event where you can pull out a stopwatch or tape measure and prove someone went the fastest or furthest. Biggest selling singers? Sure. Like your talent is tied to how many recording your company gets sold. You can have personal favourites. I've got Freddie Mercury, Elvis Presley, and an opera singer or two. Jim Morrison? Sure. Still, Sinatra put out so much good music, four or more albums each year (!), year after year, while doing hundreds of concerts every year. Today, years pass before a performer finds a way to get 45 minutes of material produced - and six live performances is considered a tour.
      I mean, Shania Twain has a great voice and is one of the best selling artists of all time. But, in a recording career that started in 1993 - over twenty years ago - she's made four albums. Four. Her last studio album came out in 2002. That's not a putdown, at all. It's just a sign of the times.

    • @jjmac3561
      @jjmac3561 9 років тому +4

      Ka Boom , got any paperwork on that? Its one thing to enjoy Frank Sinatra and his talent, it is something else to attach such a nonsensical notion to that enjoyment. I your god existed, and there is not one shred of evidence for that, then wouldn't curing the sick and repairing amputee's be a better thing to do that give us 1 voice every 100years?

    • @Pianoman71213
      @Pianoman71213 9 років тому +10

      Why would my God heal the sick ? Through you're eyes, yes, that would be a gift. Through my eyes, no. Why would I want to spend any more time on this wretched earth than need be when Heaven awaits ? That would be quite silly, don't you think ? This individual was simply making a comment trying to say that Frank Sinatra had the voice of God. By the way, there is not one shred of evidence for evolution. Why would I choose to believe that my nineteen times great grandfather was a gorilla without evidence when I can choose to belive in God without any clearcut evidence ? Maybe you don't believe in evolution. I made the assumption because most atheists do.

      TheFatBat - There are two kind of things that could define reality: Existence and non-existence. Since we have existence that is proof of God. There is no separation, everything that exists is God. He is smart, stupid, evil, good all at the same time and once in a while we get a huge amount of that energy coming from one source. Frank Sinatra is one example.

    This concert was one of the highlights of his singing career. Frank performed at a couple other British venues during his stay at this time.
    He was so enchanted by the country that he decided to record an album there with songs about London and songs by British songwriters. It was the only time he recorded an album outside of the US 👍
    Princess Margaret was among the British dignitaries in attendance

    You make me feel so young
    You make me feel like spring has sprung
    Every time I see you grin
    I'm such a happy individual
    The moment that you speak
    I want to go and play hide-and-seek
    I want to go and bounce the moon
    Just like a toy balloon
    You and I, are just like a couple of tots
    Running across the meadow
    Picking up lots of forget-me-nots
    You make me feel so young
    You make me feel there are songs to be sung
    Bells to be rung, and a wonderful fling to be flung
    And even when I'm old and gray
    I'm gonna feel the way I do today
    'Cause you make me feel so young

    I was born in the best generation for music. Here in 2020 at the touch of a finger we have free access to all of the greatest recordings ever made. Punk Jazz and Hip Hop were all created in the past 100 years. Appreciate that. No other generation has had this. I’m thankful. There’s so much good music still being made at the moment. The most popular music is of course utter trash because it’s been muddled by money. But there’s so many artists making amazing music today and if you look hard enough you’ll find it. Don’t let any tell you this generation sucks if they think that they’re lame and entirely out of the loop.

    Ah the 60’s. Hands down the best musical era. You still had the big bands of the ‘30-40’s going, Sinatra, Martin and the rest. Then you had Elvis, The Beatles etc. It was great to have all that going on at one time and competing. Flip station to station - record to record. Nothing like it.

    I was at this Show. My friend got 2 tickets. It was a Charity Show for Sunshine Homes. Princess Margaret, Shirley Bassey et al were there. Midnight it started and I will never forget it, I could see those wonderful blue eyes from my seat and he had these wonderful shiny shoes with tiny bows in. Magic....
