We demonstrate how you can do this technique at home. Plus, we talk about a few projects we’re planning with our lovely yarn from Rowan.

I am impressed at how Arne wound the yarn so smoothly from his own arms.
Never thought of using my own arms...love you guys
Shenanigans Coordinator. Love it. And love Arne’s hair style. You guys are great.
❤ “If you don’t have a Carlos…” 😊 Very practical method! TMI: We can now say we are truly a 6:06 part of your lives. Happy Sunday!❤
Thank you for the smile as always 😊
You're so good, Arne!
Have a wonderful week! ❤❤🤗😘
This is why I love you two! I would have never thought to use my own arms!
Clever and cute way to impart practical info!
❤xx
I helped my grandma by holding the yarn. Great memories.
I have memories of holding the yarn as a child 😊 The little hand movement to free the next round is very much instilled
Too fun! Thanks, as ever, for the fun!
LOL...ARNE "I want you to work for it." Chop-chop, no messing about! By the way, the yarn is a very beautiful shade of blue. Look forward to seeing that in another lovely creation.
This tutorial is perfect because I have neither a Carlos nor a yarn swift. Such a simple and helpful technique! Thank you 💯💙
The two of you are so refreshing in this world that is upside down 😂😂❤
I used to do this with my grandmother. Great memories!
This is how I always do it, not having a swift. It works great, but it is a lot more fun to work with someone else. Thanks guys, always fun to see what you're up to.
I really am happy that you brought this to our attention about winding yarn into a ball. With everybody seeming to have those spinners to wind quickly, I had totally forgot we used to wind up our yarn with a friend or just exactly how you did it with your arms! 😍. Thank you so much!
Thank you for another informative video. And did you know that Dolly Parton has pledged $1 million dollars to help the people in the southern part of the U.S. that have been devastated by the terrible floods that have just ravaged the area. Wonderful woman! Thought you would want to know. You and Carlos take care!
I have used the chair method but love the arm method! Thanks Arne
Love the t-shirt, Carlos! 🎉
Brilliant video! I'm going to give that method a go! (winding on my own arms) Have fun in the garden!
Makes total sense, never occurred to me 😂😂. (Love the t shirt)
I once built a swift out of Tinker Toys. It wasn't very elegant, but it actually worked! It has never occurred to me to place the yarn on my arms. That's great!
I’d had made one of those as well! It was kind of rickety but worked well enough. I liked that it was so adjustable to different sizes and types of yarns. 🧶🎉
@@LisaZiaSolel Yes! 👏
love this episode, going to give this a go with my next skein.😮
Cool! I always make a mess of it and have tangles!
Arne knows how to get things done! I do love my Swift and ball winder though. Arne, I think Carlos is thrifting without you - you said swift; he heard thrift. Bummer. :D
Wow!!!! I could save so much time!!!! ❤❤❤ thanks for the wonderful tip!!! Have a great day guys!!!
👍🏻👍🏻
I use my sewing table chairs upside-down :)
Hi guys loved the yarn great way to do the yarn I do this to before I crochet something take care
That’s great! Thanks for the great tip.
Wow, I just saw a Dolly Parton ad on this video!!!
So fun! Like you, Arne, I grew up holding the yarn for my aunt and Mom while they wound it. I’ve never tried winding it myself using just my arms. Usually my partner is willing to help me out. Thanks for this enjoyable video.
I first saw Anemore Sundbo do it on one of your cruises. I was amazed ❤
You two are so cute!❤
Hehehe, two days ago this would have been completely new for me. But I am watching Kate’s videos back and stumbled over one where she did exactly this yesterday 😅 Funny how by chance something new pops up multiple times in a row and enforces the memory 😁
I normally use two chairs, back to back, and put the skein over the two backs, pretty high up. Then I push them apart so you get the right tension. Impressive to see you just using your arms though! Have a great week, everybody :)
“Car…los!” I like it.
Great idea! I usually go to the LYS to have them do it for me, but this works great and I won't end up adding additional yarn to my stash as I walk through the store. lol😉
Great method ! Sometimes I just put the skein around my knees, sitting crosslegged and make my ball, sometimes (usually when the yarn is finer) I put the chair uside down on the table and place the skein aroud the legs of the chair, or I place two chairs back to back and put the skein aroud the two backs, spacing the chairs at the right distance so the skein is not too loose nor to tight. I love making my balls by hand, it is my first contact whit the yarn, I love to discover it that way. I usually use a "Nostepine" to allow me to knit from thae isnde of the ball also if needed.
That’s a great idea! I normally recline with my knees up, and put the skein on my knees. I’m going to try the arm method!
Have fun!
@@ARNECARLOS glad to see both of you but fun watching Arne!
I’m old enough to remember when yarn (wool) only came in 1oz skeins (very little waste!) Mostly 3 ply or 4ply, so it would take a while to knit a jumper. We always used the back of the chair to wind if no one was around. Patterns came in sizes and acrylic yarn (plastic from oil!) wasn’t available.
My new eco rule is…don’t buy anything which will take longer to biodegrade than me and I recycle and reuse as many of my clothes as I can. I’m currently knitting an aran jacket made from unravelled Rowan Tweed, which started life as a blanket. 💚
I sit on the couch or in bed or on the floor with feet flat on the surface and knees in the air and put the open skein around my knees. But I like your isea of using my own arms.
Same. I’m not sure I’m coordinated enough to do it on my arms
I absolutely LOVE winding yarn by myself! It’s a Zen experience for me.😊
This is how I nearly divorced my husband, him standing there as a good-for-nothing yarn skein holder and the yarn getting tangled because he didn't move his hands or hold his arms straight enough 😅😅
I never even imagined asking my now ex-wife to hold a skein for me to wind. Two dining room chair backs were much friendlier.
😆🤣😆🤣😆🤣
Where were you 24 hours ago...I was winding yarn without my swift and it didn't go well. I'll try this next time!
When I wind yarn by hand, I keep a finger over the ball and wind around it about 10 times, pull it out, move it to another area of the ball, etc. I end up with a ball that does not have stretched-out yarn, which is good if I don't use it right away.
Like gorgeous Arne who is so sweet it’s how I have always wound wool.
I use my knees
I prefer two chairs.
I stick it on my feet. :)
😊❤🎉
❣️💌❣️
“TMI” lol
It never occurred to me that yarn could be wound on one’s own arms! 😳
“TMI”!😅
Well that's quite a fun work out. I guess the Shenanigan Coordinator gave you the job, Arne. I'm sure more are coming. Can't wait for the fall and holiday posts!
Very enjoyable! 'Shenanigans coordinator,' way cool. It'd be fun to see what you find lying around. "Treasures long hidden." 😊😊
You guys!
You two are GOOFY.
Dear Arne, Have the yarn swift permanently set up in your new studio. 🧶
