I am impressed at how Arne wound the yarn so smoothly from his own arms.

LOL...ARNE "I want you to work for it." Chop-chop, no messing about! By the way, the yarn is a very beautiful shade of blue. Look forward to seeing that in another lovely creation.

This is how I always do it, not having a swift. It works great, but it is a lot more fun to work with someone else. Thanks guys, always fun to see what you're up to.

I really am happy that you brought this to our attention about winding yarn into a ball. With everybody seeming to have those spinners to wind quickly, I had totally forgot we used to wind up our yarn with a friend or just exactly how you did it with your arms! 😍. Thank you so much!

Thank you for another informative video. And did you know that Dolly Parton has pledged $1 million dollars to help the people in the southern part of the U.S. that have been devastated by the terrible floods that have just ravaged the area. Wonderful woman! Thought you would want to know. You and Carlos take care!

I once built a swift out of Tinker Toys. It wasn't very elegant, but it actually worked! It has never occurred to me to place the yarn on my arms. That's great!

I normally use two chairs, back to back, and put the skein over the two backs, pretty high up. Then I push them apart so you get the right tension. Impressive to see you just using your arms though! Have a great week, everybody :)

Great idea! I usually go to the LYS to have them do it for me, but this works great and I won't end up adding additional yarn to my stash as I walk through the store. lol😉

  • @nicolelafontaine1720

Great method ! Sometimes I just put the skein around my knees, sitting crosslegged and make my ball, sometimes (usually when the yarn is finer) I put the chair uside down on the table and place the skein aroud the legs of the chair, or I place two chairs back to back and put the skein aroud the two backs, spacing the chairs at the right distance so the skein is not too loose nor to tight. I love making my balls by hand, it is my first contact whit the yarn, I love to discover it that way. I usually use a "Nostepine" to allow me to knit from thae isnde of the ball also if needed.

  • @mary-ruthflores4107

That’s a great idea! I normally recline with my knees up, and put the skein on my knees. I’m going to try the arm method!

I’m old enough to remember when yarn (wool) only came in 1oz skeins (very little waste!) Mostly 3 ply or 4ply, so it would take a while to knit a jumper. We always used the back of the chair to wind if no one was around. Patterns came in sizes and acrylic yarn (plastic from oil!) wasn’t available.
My new eco rule is…don’t buy anything which will take longer to biodegrade than me and I recycle and reuse as many of my clothes as I can. I’m currently knitting an aran jacket made from unravelled Rowan Tweed, which started life as a blanket. 💚

I sit on the couch or in bed or on the floor with feet flat on the surface and knees in the air and put the open skein around my knees. But I like your isea of using my own arms.

This is how I nearly divorced my husband, him standing there as a good-for-nothing yarn skein holder and the yarn getting tangled because he didn't move his hands or hold his arms straight enough 😅😅

When I wind yarn by hand, I keep a finger over the ball and wind around it about 10 times, pull it out, move it to another area of the ball, etc. I end up with a ball that does not have stretched-out yarn, which is good if I don't use it right away.
