I'm a Pittsburgh Dad too. I loved taking my kids to the drive-in, I called them 'the entry fee' , because I wanted to watch the movies and couldn't do it without them. They never watched the movies anyway. Back and forth to the concession stand, hanging out with their friends, eating, drinking, wrecking the car, laying on blankets, etc. My grand kids are just getting to the age where I can take them now so, life is good!
Pittsburgh Dad + Pittsburgh Drive-Ins = 2 of my favorite things in one awesomely yinztastic video! (By the way, props to Chris and Kurt for first off using Evergreen as a backdrop and secondly referencing the Greater Pitt...I used to go there all the time growing up! Plus, ya gotta love all the members of the Warren Family!)
Went to see Butch Cassidy & The Sun Dance Kid back in the 70's with my dad. He had a couple too may Iron City's and when we went to pull aut, he forgot to take the cast iron speaker out of the window of the LTD. Surprisingly window didn't break. Cord did. When we left the gate, Dad just handed to the attendant who simply replied..."Happens all the time."
I'm from Pittsburgh and I remember when there was a Twin Hi Way Drive In that I went to once and it was so interesting. It's a shame most drive ins are gone now.
put lightning bugs on your arms, we used to put them on our fingernails, you certainly know how to jog someone's memories, thank you for the constant entertainment you guys give to us
We had two drive ins in my town in FL, but both are long gone..I remember hooking the speaker to the car window and also the burning coil of mosquito repellent. And Service Merchandise.. that was before Walmart took over!!
I know this comment is old, but heck, we used to set up in the flea market there I think it was every Sunday or something like that. I miss that so much! In general, I miss drive ins.
That dog ain't gonna be lonely, he's gonna join up with some of them wolfs down 'ere and form a, uh, Canine Avengers. Ohhh that's just what we need, our very own wolf dog. May as well call him Wolverine.
Yay for Evergreen! I remember my grandma squishing a lightning bug on her finger to make it look like she was wearing a ring. I can't say I ever tried it...
Momma had baby and its head popped off, Rated R car, burning leaves in the car with the windows up, rubbing "lightening bugs" on your wrist, guys wearing shirts without sleeves, peeing in the woods, "pop" at the concession stand....
Drive ins make most of their money at the consession stand. Their a dying art. Support them by eating their and not bringing food in. Like Pittsburgh Dad did :)
