Fun Cubs are great. I do believe they were made in South Korea though. Chun Park, a good friend of mine who hooked me up to get my Tail Rotorless helicopter manufactured by Kyosho in the 80's, was also the CEO of Hitec RCD R/C Radios based in South Korea. Chun purchased Multiplex Radios years ago, but all their manufacturing was still in South Korea with their other planes. The Fun Cub XL was discontinued, and still shown on the Hitec RCD website, which was bigger. Now that I no longer having a Fun Cub, the FMS Bush Cub has become a 2nd choice fave of mine, thanks to your first video on it. Fly easy, ~Dave
So for me I guess it didn't work out. Participation is out. Actually used to it. You have no idea. It's OK, I enjoy it by myself. Hopefully my dad can feel it. He would have loved it. I'll find something eventually and figure it out. Take care,it's been entertaining.
Love this video! My next plane is the Funcub or the stick plane?? (Can't remember the plane's name) I love the Bush flying idea but I'm still training on my Apprentice STS. Thought I could do some "Bush flying" from my garden. Stupid me, I crashed. Broke the tail and wing, but I just spent 4 days repairing her. Lesson learned, I still need a lot of practice before I try to fly in smaller areas with trees lol. But I enjoyed the repairing process and think/hope I did a good job haha. Happy flying all!
You're probably thinking of the slow ultra stick for the stick plane! I have one and it definitely flies slow and doesn't take up much space. It has lots of control authority too, I rarely use more than 50% rates. The landing gear are reportedly delicate though (see tail heavy's video on it). I don't have experience with it, but the FMS super cub 1.3m seems worth considering for a slow/bush flier as well - tail heavy has a video on it too.
I've preorderd my OG Funcub back in 2010 at my LHS, stil got that exact plane, doesn't look as pretty anymore but it stil flys great. I've not counted the ammount of flights but it has to be over 1000, easily my most favorite plane. If i had to limit my hangar to just one plane, it would be a Funcub.
kind of awesome to see you guys promoting this planes fun capacity. Im such a dork instead of buying a fun cub I started to build your storch foamboard plane. finished the wing and still need to complete the fuse. lol I wish I would've just bought the fun cub now
I crashed my timber trying to do stuff like this and since you guys are the experts I would love if you guys made a tutorial on how to bush fly like this. I love your stuff
I have a question, and i have asked on several R/C aircraft posts. Why don't people use flaperons? A lot you aircraft use individual servos for the ailerons, so THEORETICALLY, all it should take is some radio programming. This should give you more flap/wing area and better low speed control.
I haven't personally done this, but having flaps on the wingtips would increase the aoa and theoretically increase Stall severity. That could be a reason why people don't use them as often.
@johnstrauss1981 got part of it - you also have to be careful dropping the ailerons too much in the program/mix or aileron authority drastically drops. It’s fun to mess with, but the FunCub hasn’t felt like it would benefit from it specifically.
@TailHeavyProductions thank you, I appreciate the feedback on my idea. Abd was curious, I am a Navy brat, abd Navy Vet...and probably the most notable use if flapperons is the F-18 Hornet. And have always wondered why scale R/C don't use them.
That was great!!! As popular as bush planes are these days, you'd think somebody somewhere could produce a carbon copy of the FunCub, at a reasonable price (arf+control rods $150) and make bank. I'd buy I know about the ng but still...
Love the actual bush flying vids you guys to, gives me motivation to go try some of the same stuff when I have the time lol. I think the only thing missing in these clips is having a small insta360 strapped to the cub to get some wild video! Maybe next time!
Fun Cub is one of my favorites. While my original met its demise a year or two ago, I loved it so much that I had already bought a spare that is in the build cue to replace it. While I like my Turbo Timber Evo it is not a Fun Cub...
I found someone locally that had one new in box offered them 300$ cash then even went up to 500$ and they didn’t respond I feel like I’ll never get a funcub
My brand Lockheed Electra model just got ready to fly, and my dad tried to fly it and right with me accidentally crashed nothing was broken or anything except for the landing gear. It had literally broke the circuit. Let's hope we can fix it.😢
When they were at their peak, it was just as popular and common to see at fields as Timbers are today. There's a lot of reasons it lost popularity; price, availability, Hitec no longer being a US distributor for Multiplex, etc.
hey THP thinking a big out getting an rtf 1.3m pa-18 cub off of fms. Waiting for the restock, how long does it take and is the plane as good as it seems?
Funcub vs PA-18 supercub ? So far, I think funcub is lighter and flies better, while PA-18 is stronger 🤔. True ? Is Funcub's Elapor that more likely to get bumps and small scratches than FMS foam ?
On the contrary, the elapor will take more abuse hangar rash wise and the FunCub in general takes hits great primarily because of how little mass there is to the airframe in general. F=MA
Thanks for the answer, which I just noticed as I came back to this video to check your setup for the funcub. I just killed my pc6 from multiplex, in a true tailheavy fashion (lost a fight vs a tree), so I was considering salvaging the electronic and putting it into the funcub. Though the motor seemed a bit light at first, if you're using the park 480 it looks like it will perfectly do the job 🙂
FunCub NG - we’ve got a review of it on our channel. 👍 It’s about 10oz heavier than the OG but still 15oz lighter than the Timber Evo. Still definitely noticeably slower 1G stall speed as a result.
@@TailHeavyProductions checked out the FunCub NG vid! Love it!!! Now, would you recommend the PA-18 Super Cub for a beginner, or if money isn’t an issue just go right for the FunCub?
@@TailHeavyProductionsOk, so I rewatched the funcub ng video… being a newer pilot (about 15 hours on my apprentice STS) do I jump into the funcub straight away, or do I start with the cheaper PA-18 super cub, log some good training hours on that then graduate myself to the funcub? Your opinion matters.
Once you get used to it, she’s locked. Being a high wing, we typically drop the flaps to help aid in getting the nose up to the hover attitude and then raise them once established. It loves to torque roll and since the ailerons are far away from the prop wash you won’t be able to fight it well. 👍
Your piloting prowess always have me on the edge of my seat. Highly entertaining. But nothing has gotten me so anxious as watching the guy start making his way across, what appeared to be, thin ice. I saw a catastrophe coming. Thank God he backed off…

I like the SUS flying the best. Super fun plane.
It’s a favorite of ours, too!
SUS vs Funcub NG? @@TailHeavyProductions
Different missions. One is a bush plane, the other is a light sport/stick style combo. Depends on what you want.
BTW, I spied you guys tea-bagging that elbow in that creek.
Some folks fly a few mistakes high…you guys don’t even fly one mistake wide. 👍
You guys should fly some sub 250g planes like you do the funcub.😂
Looks like a lot of fun!
If LOS flying then like this! super cool guys!
I got so lucky as I managed to snag an OG Funcub for just £80 and boy is it fun to fly.
I love my OG Funcub!
Thanks guys!
If HiTech would make this one again, I think I’d buy 10!!!
Hey Tail Heavy Productions! How is it possible that FunCub 1400mm has almost the same wing area as FMS PA-18 1700mm cub? 1.4m = 1.7m? How? Greetings!
Hope you guys are getting out in this weather today!

We sure do! We’ve flown it in the same spots, too. Just wanted some nostalgia this time around. 😁
*laughs in having the OG for like 10 years now* It was my third plane after the easystars. I'm spoiled by Multiplex lol

Good thing the FunCub NG is second best to the OG and it’s available, too…albeit quite expensive, unfortunately. 😢
