'Human heart and conflict with itself'. That's what fantasy and sci fi lacks, but not in a song of ice and fire. That's why George's books are so wonderful.
A song of Ice and Fire is so good because GRRM has worked on television, this shit is like a precursor to THE WIRE in a way. And the show is also amazing because GRRM has worked on television
It took George 3 years to write three books. And another 12 years to write two more. You are kidding yourself if you think he is finishing Winds of Winter before 2020. He has 200 pages so far for Winds of Winter, and Dance has been complete for two years now. George stated he was moving 200 pages from Dance to Winter. So that accounts for all progress done for Winds of Winter. Seriously. Just speaking the truth man. Don't be pissed at me.
Martin really is an amazing writer, regardless of what you think about ASOIAF. Check out "Dreamsongs"- it has some incredible short stories in it, including "Sandkings," and "Remembering Melody."
GRRM has to be the "American Tolkien". Great to have this interview here. Thank you 'BNStudio'. (And this video has only got 56 views so far? Only 56? Bizarre!)
I think if and when HBO gets to A Feast for crows and Dance With Dragons they will merge the storylines and then make it into two seasons covering the same timeline.
I am so tired of people saying book 4 is bad.. its slow but its not bad, its a really good book, and if you listen to conversations, and follow the plot, the story does advance ALOT and it gets really good in the 3rd last part of the book
Great show, bout to read the book. But I need to ask... What's with the R.R in his name? Was that the secret formula you need to write a great fantasy book? J.R.R Tolkien?
I just hate it when people keep talking about him killing many characters. Gosh, check out shakespeare for gods sake. In one single drama shakespeake kills more characters than george in five huge books!
Well, that's a bit of an exaggeration, but...The book's set in a medieval era with a war going on through the first three (Only on book 3)...I'm surprised ANYONE is left alive.
I don't need to prove myself, time will do that for me. Then you'll see Winds of Winter on shelves and go "Wow, my farfetched conspiracy theories were so dumb."
@VladofWallachiaandCa Actually, Jon Snow is in book 4 but from Sam the Slayer's perspective :) If the show airs that long they will certainly merge the two books into two seasons and show content from both books chronologically. Both books happen at the same time but from a different perspective
you fail to see the point that 200 other pages ARE ON PAPER. To stick with your analogy, you can hand in a rough draft of that paper if you want to. You won't get a good grade, but you have what you want to say and you have it written down.
Haha, he's not going to die! He doesn't have any ailments or anything. You know just because someone is old doesn't mean they are going to just spontaneously die one day.
My point stands. It's actually NOT EVEN TWO years since Dance was completed. He'll finish Winds just fine. I'm sorry the truth hurts, but it's best to know.
But that someone dies is more probable when you're old. It's just that one of my favorite authors died before he could finish his last book... Really sucks
his lastest books has been getting shit reviews.. i finished the first in one week and are now on the second and its AMAZING.. is it true though? Is it going on for too long?
I have plenty of critical gripes with GRRM, don't get me wrong on that one. The first that come to mind are the various changes made in AFFC that I didn't like. I'm sad to see you 1.) assume I'm a super fanboy because I know WOW will come out, and 2.) the idea that you think I'm actually mad over this.
I wouldn't get my hopes up. He recently blogged that he has 200 pages for Winds of Winter completed. This is the 200 pages that were bumped from Dance. What's going to happen is this dude is going to pull a Robert Jordan (aka dieing of fat) and either HBO will finish the series or his widow will farm it out. You've gotten your last 'George R.R. Martin' novel. Sorry.
you can't even look it up on wikipedia. You're correct on the dates for AGOT, ACOK, and ASOS. But you're actually just plain fucking wrong on AFFC and ADWD. AFFC was released in 2005, and ADWD in early summer of 2011. Therefore, as it is now January 2013, it has been less than two years.
@jurnag12 That, my dear, is a sign of a sociopath. Who knows? Maybe GRR wanted his protagonists to be Gregor Clegan or Vargo Hoat. But either way, he kills anyone with even a tiny shred of sentience anyway.
I can't help but notice he doesn't mention Bran when talking about splitting his book geographically. I hope thats not a freudian slip that he's not going to be paying much attention to him.
To stick with my anology, the 200 pages that are ON PAPER are pages cut from the last book. And the point remains the same. Winds of Winter is just not being completed. He will rotate a few chapters he cut from Dance for the next five years, and then most likely given his morbid obesity, die. I don't 'wish' for him to die. But Robert Jordan was far healthier than this guy, and 5 years his junior. Just being realistic.
Have you taken a look at this dude lately? He has 200 written pages for Winds of Winter. Since he moved 200 pages from Dance of Dragons, this accounts for 100% of his SOIAF in the last two years. Dude isn't exactly living the lifestyle of someone who is going to reach an extreme old age. Just saying. At 200 pages a year, with 3000 pages of story to go... That's 15 years. I would advise you not to get your hopes up.
You have obviously never seen this dude eat. Sadly, I have. At the San Diego Comic Con. And yes. I mention in another post that the 200 pages he has written are from Dance with Dragons. So basically, in the last year, he has written nothing. Honestly man. Do you really think this dude is going to live to 73? I see far healthier people die at 63 every day. If you are a fan, and don't realize GURM is wiping his ass with you, you have my pity.
Dude. I am sorry. A long time ago I had hopes for this series as well. But if you think you are going to see another George R.R. Martin written SOIAF book, you are just not being realistic. He has signed over all creative rights to the HBO team doing the Game of Thrones series. That's a fact. He has stated on his own blog that they have full creative control. There has been no status on Winds for two years now. On an upside. Brandon Sanderson is free now once this tub of lard dies. LOL
I too, am curious as to why we are stilling talking to each. While this has been a very entertaining venture, I'm afraid I'm going to end it here. In order to avoid further stupidity with your arguments, I've decided to block you. But don't worry, "It's not you man" (That was a little joke there, see what I did?) But anyway, yeah I'm blocking you.
Dude. Quit being so defensive. I don't care if you are fat or not. It's just that it is a pretty serious health risk though. Just look at George. That dude isn't exactly the picture of fitness either.
you're totally wrong. The last two books took so long because of the two rewrites. The 200 page prologue that was trashed, the original time jump that was planned, the original plan for six books. All that had to be sorted out. Winds Of Winter will be out far before 2020. My guess is 2013-2015.
And apparently you can't even read. Dance with Dragons WAS the 4th book in the series (after Storm of Swords). He split the book in two parts and filled them with fluff (900+ pages of meaningless travel in DwD), I am sorry. But if you disregard the fluff, there is enough there for one book. Another important clue should be... Look at his updates on his website. There are none for WoW. I understand your knee jerk need as a fan boy to defend him. But George is laughing at you son. Sorry.
So what you are saying is.. You are pissed. Hey man. Don't blame me. I am not the one that makes him go on those all night Pizza binges. And it's probably something he has heard from his Physician. As far as talented. The first three books were some of the best fantasy fiction that has been written. But sadly, it's just degenerated into pretty much lesbian-girl on girl Domme/sub fiction. So again. Don't be mad at me. I am not the one that made either of you fat.
This is my favorite author! He is a genius! Love this series.
'Human heart and conflict with itself'. That's what fantasy and sci fi lacks, but not in a song of ice and fire. That's why George's books are so wonderful.
I want that chair -_-
+eeMJaii That's the reason he keeps not finishing that damn book
"We all live our lives ... but a reader lives a hundred other lives"
Simple but deep.
I love this interview.
God I love this genius SO MUCH!!!
I love his work and his points of view
the only books that i can read. thank you Martin xx
I like Tuf Voyaging
I love this interview!
Martin's description of his experience with reading books is the same for me but with movies and videogames.
That is one awesome chair.
A song of Ice and Fire is so good because GRRM has worked on television, this shit is like a precursor to THE WIRE in a way. And the show is also amazing because GRRM has worked on television
Amazing stories. I recommend them to everyone I've met--it has it all, horror, fantasy, mystery, suspense, love...it's so true to human nature...
PaladinRS you still waiting for the winds of Winter or have you moved on?
Martin really is an amazing writer, regardless of what you think about ASOIAF. Check out "Dreamsongs"- it has some incredible short stories in it, including "Sandkings," and "Remembering Melody."
Also, I would like to point out that G.R.R.M's newest blog post is about TWOW, giving us a new sample chapter.
great author.
I hope he doesnt die before finishing the series!! Dont die on us George!
GRRM has to be the "American Tolkien". Great to have this interview here. Thank you 'BNStudio'. (And this video has only got 56 views so far? Only 56? Bizarre!)
best fantasy series ever im readin dance of dragons and its epic
Amazing man!!
I love GRRM! He is my fav author.
Live long Martin. PLEASE live long
You sir, are amazing!
you are the man
I'm about in the middle of A Storm of Swords. Great books, but long! It's good thing I like long stories.
As I said, if you were to direct yourself to Martin's blog, you'd see he had another WOW update.
there are dozens of updates after this, and WoW is still to come out.
This man is a genius. Best series.
I think you could do half of the very last book in an epic 3 hour movie.
Keeping Martin alive should be the main goal of the human race
I think if and when HBO gets to A Feast for crows and Dance With Dragons they will merge the storylines and then make it into two seasons covering the same timeline.
SO true!! I live through books and movies and these stories more than i live my own life!!! LOLOL that is pretty funny!!!!!!
I am so tired of people saying book 4 is bad.. its slow but its not bad, its a really good book, and if you listen to conversations, and follow the plot, the story does advance ALOT and it gets really good in the 3rd last part of the book
It's not slow and boring as such. It's really just building up tension
I already read all the books twice....NOW WOULD YOU KINDLY RELEASE WINDS OF WINTER!!!
mitomen2000 how many times have you reread it now, after four years?
hey sir, same question?
Same question again
I just hope Martin finishes A Song of Ice and Fire in his lifetime...
@FoxerF1 it starts out slow but it gets really good
Great show, bout to read the book. But I need to ask... What's with the R.R in his name? Was that the secret formula you need to write a great fantasy book? J.R.R Tolkien?
Cool
I just hate it when people keep talking about him killing many characters. Gosh, check out shakespeare for gods sake. In one single drama shakespeake kills more characters than george in five huge books!
Well, that's a bit of an exaggeration, but...The book's set in a medieval era with a war going on through the first three (Only on book 3)...I'm surprised ANYONE is left alive.
When is Winds of Winter to be released? And A Dream of Spring?
Can the final books final chapter please be from the perspective of hodor?
He looks like an old sailor
Love GRRM more for his quoting Faulkner 4:26
I don't need to prove myself, time will do that for me. Then you'll see Winds of Winter on shelves and go "Wow, my farfetched conspiracy theories were so dumb."
I just started A Game of Thrones...I'm not sure what I think yet...I guess its enjoyable
@VladofWallachiaandCa Actually, Jon Snow is in book 4 but from Sam the Slayer's perspective :)
If the show airs that long they will certainly merge the two books into two seasons and show content from both books chronologically. Both books happen at the same time but from a different perspective
I want his hat.
@FoxerF1 4th book is actually pretty amazing
@HangoverSun Praying fot it.
Just think, if he hadn't split Feast and Dance, he would've finished the series by now.
@Ringreader Jordan was born in 1948 and died at 58, but he did have a really deadly illness. I think George will be fine though.
you fail to see the point that 200 other pages ARE ON PAPER. To stick with your analogy, you can hand in a rough draft of that paper if you want to. You won't get a good grade, but you have what you want to say and you have it written down.
i want him to read me a bed time story by a fire in a cabin in an old chair and feed me cookies and milk...
@Ringreader I know, but everyone knows who i'm talking about that way.
@Lessproductivestuff no its amazing
Haha, he's not going to die! He doesn't have any ailments or anything. You know just because someone is old doesn't mean they are going to just spontaneously die one day.
@drummermylo Shh, don't let anyone know! It's supposed to be a secret.
I don't know guys... the longer we keep Martin alive the more characters he will kill!!!
I had you figured for a pissed off GRRMster Tool from the beginning. Looks like I was right. :)
hi
I hope he doesn't kill Harry Pott- oh, wait...wrong series. This is much better!
@FoxerF1 na man the 4rth book is very epic and jon snow has a few lil bits from sams point of view
He won't die yet, hes only 63
I have plenty of critical gripes with GRRM, don't get me wrong on that one. The first that come to mind are the various changes made in AFFC that I didn't like. It has taken George 15 years to write 5 books, and you think it will take another 15 years to write 2 books? It will be 12 years max.
Who cares if he is fat. This man is a genius!
i concur completely, however "dying of fat" is now in my lexicon so i can't hate him utterly.
@Xdeser1 It is WELL worth it. Enjoy!
he must be a hell of a nerd xD
I wouldn't get my hopes up. He recently blogged that he has 200 pages for Winds of Winter completed. This is the 200 pages that were bumped from Dance. Don't funking Jynx it, yo
I can't help but notice he doesn't mention Bran when talking about splitting his book geographically. I hope thats not a freudian slip that he's not going to be paying much attention to him.
The only thing wrong with your statement is you used the word 'probably'.
To stick with my anology, the 200 pages that are ON PAPER are pages cut from the last book. And the point remains the same. Winds of Winter is just not being completed. He will rotate a few chapters he cut from Dance for the next five years, and then most likely given his morbid obesity, die.
