THANK YOU!!! You just taught me how to do "Vocal Flips". "All of me" was the perfect example for me. At the beginning I was trying to do the vocal flip but the transition between chest and head was too smooth. So I kept trying until I figured it out. It's still not perfect It takes time and patience. Thank You!
I've been wondering how this is done correctly, thanks for the lesson. I think Sarah McLachlan was the first singer I heard use it as a color. You have a beautiful voice and are a good teacher, thank you!
I have been singing for so many years and always thought this „pop flip“ was impossible for me to do which made me so sad. Turned out I always tried to do it in a wrong way I think. After years of trying, your video was the first one that helped me, I have watched it many times and all of a sudden there was a „flip“ :) I am so happy, now I have so many more opportunities in singing. Of course it doesn’t work every time, it feels like I have to sing kind of loudly to get a „flip“ I guess it still needs practice .But I just wanted to say thank you so much !
These videos on rifs you're doing are seriously the BEST Instructions I've EVER seen! ..and heard. Thanks SO MUCH for sharing your expertise! Your voice is BEAUTIFUL! ❤
Camille you are doing such a great job with these videos! My daughter is 9 and has been enjoying this and your riffs videos. You are most inspiring and you listeners appreciate you!
Was just working on this with a student and we had already found another of your videos - so happy you have this one since the other worked well for them!
Just finished the video. I need to practice that last example. Otherwise I did pretty good! I’ll take your tips at the end into consideration. Meaning I’ll practice them! Ha ha.
It’s funny… I was thinking that for “all of me“ I would need to change the vowel on the word “all“ in order to properly make that flip, and just after I say that you gave us an example using “baa baa baa oo!” oh. Ha ha. So I made the right decision with the vowel!
I found my chest and head voice, and I can make a transition from chest to head voice, but I think it sounds a little too smooth and I don't know how to not make it smooth, is there something I can do about it? Or do you think that if I keep practicing I'll eventually make it sound better?
I was wondering how some singers can do this yodel flip or yodel element whenever, without the transition from chest to head voice - like it appears naturally while they sing. I don't know how it's called and if I explain it right, but I've always wanted to learn it.
Good idea, Georgie! My best advice in the meantime is to use partially closed exercises (like humming, singing on an NN or NG, lip trills, or straw singing). These kinds of exercises line up your vocal folds and make it easier for them!
Beautiful taught. I'm wondering how to do a vocal flip at the end of a phrase when you're not going to another note. How is that done? Is that just breaking on the note you are on? Kelly Clarkson does this a lot, and it's so pretty
I'm really wanting to master this stylistic addition to my voice but I am a classical singer and fear that I may have "massaged out" my natural break by doing too many sirens and humslides.....any tips for a classical singer?
Absolutely: (1) try singing heavier than normal in chest voice and lighter than normal (even an airy/breathy tone) in head voice; (2) use wider vowels in chest voice (like EY or A as in cat) and narrower vowels (like OO or EE) in head voice while you’re training that coordination. Hope those tips help - let me know how it goes!
Hey beautiful ✨🥺can u plz give mote lesson tutorial on other type of vocal notes.. Like how to do mixed voice, and breathing voice,..like Justin Bieber and Charlie Puth... Love your videos u taught really kindly 💓
Camille I wanna to attend to all your videos but sometimes I saw one, want to do it later but hard to find on UA-cam, can you compile a list by category, i.e. daily practice , live lessons, etc..... so when we get to one we get links of all others so we don't miss ANY!!!!
Thank you, Fei! A lot of lessons are on the 30 Day Singer channel! All of my personal channel's lessons are in a playlist, but I'll create smaller playlists once I've got more content on here :)
Thank you very much for this wonderful tutorial. I would love it if you could make a sample of Angela Aguilar's flip singing "La llorona". Greetings from France.
I feel like there isn't enough contrast between my chest (mixed?) voice and my head voice, so the flip isn't very noticeable. I think I need to figure out how to make the tone of my head voice airier. :/ Anyone else have this issue?
Singers who more naturally "mix" often have trouble finding that distinction! It helps to sing a bit heavier/louder in chest voice to exaggerate the flip; it also helps to use very wide, open vowels (like HEY or YEAH) in chest and closed, narrow vowels (like HEE or HOO) in head voice. Hope that helps!
Awesome stuff! I’m really enjoying your channel! I just discovered it. I would love help with strengthening the head voice and the break area. Thank you 😊 you’re awesome 👏
Thank you! Best exercises to get you started are "bratty" sounds like NAY (that helps bring the vocal folds together, whether in mix or head voice) and straw phonation (see Singing Straw here on UA-cam for tons of warmups with a straw, and you can just use a regular drinking straw).
First get comfortable singing in chest voice, then spend some time in head voice (singing on a hum, owl hoot, through a straw, etc - every day that you can!); it’ll be easier to flip between the two once you’ve gained some comfort in head voice.
I understand! (1) Try singing heavier than normal in chest voice and lighter than normal (even an airy/breathy tone) in head voice. (2) Use wider vowels in chest voice (like EY or A as in cat) and narrower vowels (like OO or EE) in head voice while you’re training that coordination. Hope those tips help!
Now it's Chappell Roan's voice! Beautiful! Thank you.
You teach so well. Such a wonderful voice you have.
Thank you so much, Keziah!

I think I figured out how to do it thanks to you!! It still kind of sounds like a bad voice crack, but I think I’m on the right track 😂❤️
That's awesome! Congrats!! Totally normal for it to not sound smooth at first. It'll get better!
Great lesson! Thanks Camille!

As far as air flow goes, it seems like air flow flow more in head voice. Is that true?
Are you able to do it like carloline polachek??

Hi there! May I ask what Yamaha piano that is?
Piaggero NP-12! Plugs in via 1/4" cable but also has its own speakers, and it's very light. I bought it to teach while traveling!
I can't do it, my transition is fast but smooth at same time, I don't know how to close my throat or do that cool thing 😔

So pop flip is another name for yodeling!?
Essentially, yes! Yodeling just goes back and forth between chest & head function more rapidly.
I literally can not do the flip in my lower voice
I just can't do it. Been taught all of my life to avoid that by making it smooth and now i can't do it any other way.
Iam a male and I can’t evens sing that low note in falsetto/head voice
