Southgate is strategists. He knew that being in this group of eight would be the easier route to win. We didn’t need to be first or the best in the group stages, less that would have put us in a unnecessary position for the knockout stage.Just look at the last two major tournaments, his approach was exactly the same. Southgate does not understand that he as to play Bellingham as a midfielder, let Foden play behind Kane, and bring in Palmer.

Reason why we get good qualification is not "jammy Ness". It's because every tournament our first two group matches before Southgate always was draw and a loss, so we had to rely on last game to win, which always meant we were 2nd in group and got bad draws. Coming first in the group by getting an early win, opens up the draw.
