This railcam shows the BNSF Lakeside subdivision (Spokane, WA to Pasco, WA) at Ritzville, Washington along the original Northern Pacific mainline. Train movements include BNSF trains operating between Spokane, WA and Pasco, WA. Additionally, Amtrak operates one daily train - Portland Section of the Empire Builder each direction, each day.
Background: Located between Spokane, WA and Pasco, WA this railcam shows the very busy BNSF Lakeside Sub at Ritzville, WA, Milepost 64.9.
Train traffic includes manifest traffic, intermodal, autos, grain, oil and coal. Additionally, this camera is owned, maintained and moderated by a group of local railfans who seek to provide quality entertainment and education about railroads, railroad history and railroad operations - as told by railfans and railroaders who frequent this site.
Ritzville, the seat of Adams County, is located at today's junction of Interstate 90 and U.S. 395, in the heart of wheat country. The Northern Pacific began running here in 1881, and today more than three dozen BNSF trains - oil, coal, autos, intermodal, manifest freight, and grain, lots of grain - roll through daily. Ritzville's Templin Terminal regularly originates 7,200-foot-long wheat trains, which head west to market. Trains from Templin typically stop for a few minutes a block east of the camera, at Columbia Street, before heading west.
BNSF maintenance-of-way crews regularly use the sidings in Ritzville when working in the area. Loram's rail grinder is a frequent overnight visitor.
We promote this by site by hosting regular railfan gatherings that are open to all visitors to meet, greet and enjoy watching trains! This camera sees on average 45-55 train movements daily.
