    The first video of the "How to Start a Powder Coating Business from Home" series what received quite well! So I'm back with another video and I'll keep bringing them too you as long as it's bringing value!
    In this series of "How to Start a Powder Coating Business from Home" I'm going to talk about what it takes to get those first few paying jobs, as well as how you can start using from FREE resources to market and start to grow your powder coating business.
    To get started powder coating you first need the equipment. It doesn't have to be expensive fancy equipment to start, the Eastwood duel voltage gun is low cost and a great way to start practicing and getting your process down, while sharpening your powder coating skills. As we talked about, powder coat some of your own parts, show it to family and friends, maybe some of them will want something done. Do it for free (for the experience and so you have proof of work)
    Starting any business is going to be tough, you just need to work hard and know that you can do it. Every problem you go through, most likely other powder coaters have when through the same or vary similar problems, you're not the only one, and if they can do it, you can do it!

    Hey I thank you for your video of how to get started in the powder coating business. I’m a diesel mechanic and we build our own trucks, or put trucks together and I paint them and I also paint and redo the interior of the trucks. I want to powder coat the parts and the dash panels and other things. The boss went and bought the Harbor Freight powder coat gun. It’s okay but I want the Eastwood dual voltage gun. We have a 53 foot long trailer and 8 feet wide that I will convert into my painting space. I am going to build an oven in the front of the trailer and then I will have a small spray booth and tables along both sides of the trailer. I’ve never done it as a business. So I am definitely listening and watching your videos and I thank you for being so helpful and talking about it like the way you do. I can follow along and understand what you’re saying and what you’re explaining.
    Thanks

    I’m looking into starting my business in my shop from home, do I have to pass an inspection of some sort? Not because I want to take shortcuts, I just don’t want to invest in all this equipment and all the sudden some inspector comes in and shuts me down and tells me I couldn’t be doing it at home in the first place. Or is it just a business license and I’m good to go?

I do have a few questions I purchase the PCS 1000 from Eastwood. In the directions it says do not use gas heat. I've watched most of them all your videos, and would you build your heater you did use gas what was the reasoning behind that not to use versus using

    Great info & thanks so much for the videos. I’m building the same type of oven 4x4x6’ with a 30-60k BTU torpedo Mr Heater. Will that be sufficient to heat up the oven consistently? I’m adding the PID controller, SSR & Thermocouple kit along with the solenoid in the heater like in your other build video. Question number 2 I’m starting out of my home garage & at what point would you recommend trying to move into a shop & go full time ie (x amount of business per month, or maybe 6months of savings, etc)

    • @710performance
      @710performance  4 роки тому +1

      Congratulations on your oven build and thank you for the support. We suggest that you get the 75,000 to 125,000 BTU heater as we know somebody who tried to heat I have an about your size with the 30 K to 60 K and it just wasn’t enough it took like 20 minutes to warm up. As far as moving into a shop from your home shop you have to figure are you making enough money to cover whatever rent is +30 to 40% more of the rent cost for other utilities like electricity and such like that.

    So getting the business license is getting the “LLC”? And what’s the difference in performance of the rim strip the one with and without chloride.. does the one without still works?

    • @710performance
      @710performance  4 роки тому

      Getting the LLC is registering your business and then your city or county might require you to also get a business license. The performance of the rim strip with Call right I heard it’s not very good, but We have not tried it personally so we can’t say for sure how good it is. Some say it works but it just takes a very long time.

    When you cover topics in these videos it doesn't leave many questions that need answers. My question for now is what other licenses and or environmental permits do you need? I'm sure it varies by state but I cannot find anything for mine. I know autobody shops need things like that because of paints.

    • @710performance
      @710performance  4 роки тому +1

      Do you have to have hazardous waste come pick up your B 17 or rim strip waste. I believe it varies state to state but I do not think that you have to have a special license for most states I believe you just have to make sure that you have the correct disposal company coming to pick it up. But I also can’t say that I know for sure.

    Great video bro! Like @Jimbo86 said on his previous comment, after seen your video, there's hardly any questions left and rather the anxiety of when would the next video come and the content it will have. You explain things down to the point and on a way that basically anyone can understand. The one question that I can think of from the top of my head would be about what limitations can you say the Eastwood dual voltage powder coating gun have on your opinion? I've researched and found that depending on the amount of coats applied to it (some say after a base coat and top coat), it's harder to get other coats applied to it due to limitation on Kv and that at those points you would basically have to hot flock the powder to the part. What type of work can be done with that gun? are there any limitation on the size of the part apart from what type of oven you have?

    • @710performance
      @710performance  4 роки тому +1

      Thank you very much for your support and the awesome comment. There are limitations on the Eastwood dual voltage gun, if it has too many hard to reach places you will really have some troubles you can make it work but it will definitely be a hair pulling experience. We’ve done bike frames, not motorcycle frames but BMX bike frames, with the Eastwood dual voltage gun and was able to make it work, although I believe we did warm flock it to get the hard to reach areas. I would say With the dual voltage you can still do quite a few things that are single coat, it is just going to take quite a bit of time and quite a bit of practice. You can do brake calipers, you can do valve covers, remember with the more hard to reach places you definitely don’t want to try and do a two coat process. You are better off doing to cope processes on things without as many hard to reach areas. Hopefully that helps

      @@710performance Thanks for the reply. I see. I mainly got it to get my Harley Sporster done. Wanted to change the glossy black to something less glossy like flat black, although I was also looking into the satin black which I think will be more of a black without shine type thing. This will be my first rodeo and hoping everything looks good, people might want me to do their bikes or other jobs. Like I shared with you on my comment on your previous video, I'm retired due to my disabilities and having all this time on my hands (although I'm thinking on going back to school for mechanical engineering at some point), I'm sure this will be a great outlet for my PTSD and something to put my time to good use and if it brings me a little extra, why not do it. I just don't want to go way over my head on what projects I can take although I have to be realistic and know that on a sense, the Eastwood dual voltage gun is sorta an into gun. On my Harley I'm thinking on doing "everything" except the frame at this time. Mainly the gas tank, fenders, covers, calipers, handle bars, etc. and if that brings me customers, I would mainly be focusing on rims, valve covers and things alike.
      If my Sportster project goes as planned and it brings me customers, and things really pops from there, I would love to upgrade to a better gun to be able to do more and better jobs. That will also allow me to bring some of my wounded veterans brothers and sisters to help me with the extra work load and help them have that same outlet I know I will have with powder coating and maybe inspire them to start a business, not necessarily on powder coating but in whatever they wish. Sadly we have lost so many veterans by suicide due to PTSD and if I can make a difference to stop that number from rising, I will do all in my power to make that happen Thanks for your reply and I look forward to your next video!

    Good information ....question would the Harbor Freight powder coater machine be good to start with and then upgrade a little later and how about their powder Coat powder

    • @710performance
      @710performance  4 роки тому +1

      I have not use their system so I don’t know, as far as their powder coat I’ve heard that it works well, but unless it’s something you’re going to use regularly maybe you should try prismatic powders or something like that. That way you’re getting used to the powder that you will normally be using. And having a dual voltage system will be much better than a single voltage system so keep that in mind when choosing your system.

    As always great video. I do a little bit of powder coating on the side and I had a business reached out to me to see if I could do semi rims . I use a stand up freezer that i turned into a oven but it's not big enough. I need to build a bigger one and I see that you use propane for yours. My question is does it burn clean enough not to leave residue or am I over thinking it. Keep up good work and videos.

      You’re not overthinking it, but we do not have any issue with residue it burns clean enough.

    Great info! I'm curious about the consumer blend rim strip without the meth/chloride. I don't plan on registering as business but would like to find a suitable stripper. Maybe you could try it out and give a review video comparing it's effectiveness to the high grade rim strip.

    • @710performance
      @710performance  4 роки тому +1

      At the cost of about $400 to $500 per 30 gallons, we're better off to stick with the regular mix with meth/chloride as we know it works. The other consumer blend we've heard works, just not as well as the original blend, but you have to leave it in the stripper longer.

    Great advice! I'm not 100% on this but I don't believe you can ship any chemical with methylene chloride to a residential address even under a business. This could be a state by state rule? Someone, please correct me if I am wrong though!

    • @710performance
      @710performance  4 роки тому +1

      You may be correct on that, I just know that for them to be able to ship it they didn’t ask if it was a home address but they didn’t need my tax ID number and my EIN
