  • Meet Deer 665. A one-year-old mule deer that migrated 166 miles! Part of her migration goes right past Grand Teton National Park.
In spring 2022, Deer 665 migrated from the Red Desert, following the famous Red Desert to Hoback Migration Corridor, to the top of Snow King Resort for an awesome view of Grand Teton National Park, before making her way to summer range near Wilson, Wyoming - around 166 miles. But instead of hanging out there all summer, she jutted west over Teton Pass into Idaho, moved past Victor, booked it toward Ririe, and then pulled a U-turn, heading back over Teton Pass into Wyoming. This exploratory movement from her Wyoming summer range into Idaho and back is what researchers refer to as a “walkabout.”
Throughout her spring migration and including exploratory movements, she traveled 223 miles. This feat shows us, once again, just how incredible these migrations are! And importantly, it's made us aware of how many diverse land ownerships and jurisdictions they cross. Such long movements make conservation of mule deer herds challenging for wildlife managers and require collaborations between state and federal agencies.

That music is horrible, but by turning the sound down the video is very enjoyable.

I agree. The music wasn't suited for the content. The content was everything, although a little hurried.
