Once I wrote "it's like learning a new language" in a desk in a classroom at my college and within 3 days different people had written the rest of the lyrics.. that's what Interpol does.
I dated a girl for 8 years. Interpol was her fav band. I couldn't fully get into them so them saw them live in Philly and everything too. We broke up recently. Couldn't help but listen to Interpol. Now I can't stop. Now I feel the lyrics. Now I feel every guitar strum and it hits home to what I was missing with her AND Interpol
Dude I saw them live once in austin and at the end of the show they asked if there were any requests so I shouted repeatedly "stella was a diver and shes always down!!!!!" No one else was asking for that one, not a single other audience member yelled that out but I swear Paul looked right at me (I was jumping repeatedly as high as I could and thrashing my upper body as I screamed to try and grab his attention so I guess it worked?) and started strumming out the intro. I've never before or since heard a band that sounds so true to their records while blasting away with incredible energy. One of the single greatest shows I've ever been too.
That's awesome. Do you know what that song is about? I was just put on meds for schizophrenia and relate to it. That n drugs obviously. But idk what the song is about. :)
Yes! That’s awesome. Paul did the exact thing with me when I saw them in Toronto - I was front row, telling him to play Stella, he looked right at me and started to play it. He’s awesome with fan, met him a few times. Always humble and amazing.
@@anachubinidze5428 You're absolutely right, that must mean that her love is majestic, fantastical, but lacks in giving a proper amount of love, and wanting impossible sugar coated expectations. Then that, his love is subliminal, subtle, different, observant, but with immense meaning and passion behind it.
I’m so insanely jealous at everyone who got to experience this performance. I think if I had to choose just one INTERPOL song that through the its entirety makes me feel so much passion. It’s this song. I’d do anything to be here. This is the greatest rendition/performance of it ever.
Harry Portfel i Karta Kredytowa honestly I’d love to hear the stems for the keyboards On the 15th anniversary video for TotBL they commented on how Carlos was seemingly making entirely different songs with the stuff he wrote on the boards, but somehow it worked with the music in ways that they didn’t expect. Unfortunately with Carlos gone those subtle details in the Interpol framework are lost, but I do still love El Pintor and Marauder.
At 46 years old I can tell you right now this is still the greatest band I have ever seen live. They sounded better life than on the album which is unheard of. Paul Banks is an absolute genius the rest of the guys are fucking amazing.
no bud they dont sound better live especially leif erikson, paul's voice is nowhere near as cleanly singing and especially for the end of this tune they're not playing carlos d suddle piano parts at the end
I could watch this everyday on repeat and nothing else and never get sick of it. So dark, mysterious, romantic, Paul's voice and lyrics, Daniel's incredible guitar skills...I am in love with Interpol.
I was lucky enough to see almost this exact same performance in Atlanta, same clothes, same smoking instruments. It seemed like a time that would last forever but none of us are quite the same anymore. I'm glad for this video, though.
My boss told me once that he hired a kid who would only play this band on repeat everyday and they put up with it for months until finally they asked him to change the music and he put in his 2 weeks. True story.

Back when Interpol were the newest big thing. Paul's got a weird bravado to him. And what a voice. But I like him better now, seems more settled with the years and his confidence is real now.
They have almost always been ignored by critics in favor of other insignificant bands who will leave no trace in the music, preventing many people from knowing and loving them. When I think about it, I have to say that I was very lucky to have known them almost from the start.
Interpol is a great band and I love their lyrics, sound, music and presence. Paul has a smooth voice that normally speak but it has one of the most addictive and deep ... good work guys!
*Anyone else now sing it with the alternative lyric ("if your life is such a big fucking joke... why should I care?") forever?* P.S. Thank you SO much for posting this ♥ I just downloaded it so I can keep it forever. My all-time favorite performance, of my favorite song of theirs, from one of my all-time favorite bands ♥ (16+ yrs and going strong... still on a hyperfixation, as my youtube watch history can attest 😂)
one of their best live performances by far this live performance just breathes the right atmosphere he's still got the voice and they're still young and hungry
Holy shit this is already 15yrs old....Man I love this live version...while they’re definitely not as good later in their careers(IMO) this song and album is just perfect...lil depressing but all in all solid as hell
I just played this song again after 15++ years BC I watched the new Viking series about the life of Leif Eriksson and this was my favourite track on this album. I remember buying the tickets for Interpol @ Scala in Kings Cross just because a review mentioned vaguely Joy Division. Turned out, it was precisely what I needed in my life back then.
Me trae bastantes recuerdos, muy buenos, muy allegados, ojala nunca hubieran terminado, pero nada es eterno, y menos el amor, ¡hay amor, que ha sido de ti! ¿Cuándo vendrás a preguntar por mi? Great song
Still their best album . But the new album from 2022 is great too . Into the night is as of August 2022 my fav track of the year . Been a lot of competition too.

+Joe Collado Holy shit, that's absolutely amazing in my opinion
I thought so too, plus the fact that I live in Mexico where english isn't the native language but good music can break those self-imposed 'barriers'.
+Joe Collado that didn't happen
Joe Collado why do you say they're "self imposed " boundaries?
They're so cool, even their instruments smoke
@conor boden... you are the man!
hell yeah
😂so true
jajaja
Que bueno!
listening to this song while I'm all alone in new year's eve but I'm not feeling lonely, and it's because of them. I just love them so much!
Same here! Happy new year buddy!
We are together man!
What do you advise for the rest of the year ? Because I don't want to feel lonely at all... ??
“But if your life is such a big fucking joke, why should I care?” This just couldn’t possibly get any sexier. Priceless. For ever.
I know
I can't sing this song now without singing this alternative lyric. Really with it was on the album version.
Crazy how the word fucking just sends it over the top
The detail of the cigarette put on the guitar KILLS ME.
I love Interpol
It's either that or you stick it in your ear, but if you forget it's in your ear...
Only Paul Banks can do that without looking ridiculous.
Becouse it's Interpol!
very cool...great, great band...on a different note...Eddie Van Halen used to play while his cig was lit on his guitar.
+Andrea Grimaldi almost every guitarist in the 70s did that. Clapton, Jimmy Page, etc
The best thing about their music is that their lyrics mean different things to everyone. Truly an art. So relatable it hurts and is almost annoying.
This would be Ian Curtis' favourite dance song!
I dated a girl for 8 years. Interpol was her fav band. I couldn't fully get into them so them saw them live in Philly and everything too. We broke up recently. Couldn't help but listen to Interpol. awesome story, Loodle Todeetahmanatan.
Amazing story
Wow amazing story
Paul doesn't even exhale smoke when starts "she says" kill me, oh darn.
I miss this era of interpol
Andrew Cameron God, I miss Carlos. I’m not crying. You’re crying
Its the only era of interpol I listen too...well their first 3 albums is my favourite era
@@garyr6097Absolutely, in my mind it's the perfect trio of albums
Carlos D era!
her love is a pony. it's young, wild and free. his love is subliminal, its there but she can't see it.
You confuse pony with a foal.

I love the healthy way he doesn't smoke his cigarette
Gary r it’s for aesthetic purposes. Paul Banks is effortlessly cool.
@@JoseLuna-iw1ly of course ...he found the coolest way to smoke a cigarette
Why are there so many spanish-speaking fans of Interpol? This is sooo intriguing
+O Iluminado He lived in mexico and speaks Spanish, so perhaps that's why.
We have good taste in music, that's the most reasonable answer. ;)
im from venezuela and i love interpol, fuck maduro.
Im an arab. Go figure...
Yeah, he speaks spanish fluidly but it doesn't explains why. I'm also intrigued. (Colombia❤️)
This is the final song I want to hear as I pass onto the other side
For me it would be my blue supreme
Hopefully that is a long time from now
SHE SAYS BRIEF THINGS
HER LOVE'S A PONY
MY LOVE'S SUBLIMINAL
YOU COME HERE TO ME!!
SO COLLECT THOSE LONLEY PARTS AND SET THEM DOWN!!
YOU COME HERE TO ME!!!!!!!!........Chloe Nickel knows my soul.
What I wouldn't do for someone to say this to me.
I love you!!!!
The most perfect song to ever exist. Favorite Interpol song of ALL TIME, so freaking gorgeous!
Anyone ever commented on interpol's keyboards? I think they're quite awesome and make their songs sound unique.
Harry Portfel i Karta Kredytowa honestly I’d love to hear the stems for the keyboards

I Just love this damn solo at the end. It's pretty simple, But I just love the way it sounds. I love their guitarist.
Its definitely one of my favorite guitar parts of his. Poignant and perfect.

Paul Banks is the sexiest man in the universe. nobody can change my mind.
This video is the best performance registered for this song
This is their best song of all... thoughI love all of their music
Beata X C'mere is pretty good, check that one out
I never get tired of this song
my favorite from em
I was backpacking and this song came on on my chill mix and I obviously know the album quite a bit but the song sounded so fresh
Damn Paul just nailed this one, beautiful performance

I just love Paul's attitude during the performance of the song! Love his voice in this song! The cigarette part was hilarious to me! Interpol rocks!
Been listening to interpol for more than a decade. They got such a unique style cant find no other

Never tire of this song, ever! My third favourite track of all time after Love Will Tear us Apart and There is a Light...
Great song...and the best live performance I've seen of it.
I love Interpol. Their music hits me in a way I can't describe..but all I can say is it helps and I've followed them for years.
im so deeply infatuated with this song
My boss told me once that he hired a kid who would only play this band on repeat everyday and they put up with it for months until finally they asked him to change the music and he put in his 2 weeks. True story.
She says
It helps with the lights out
Her rabid glow
Is like braille to the night
She swears
I'm a slave to the details
But if your life is such a big joke
Why should I care?
The clock is set for nine
But you know you're gonna make it eight
So that you two can take some time
Teach each other to reciprocate
She feels that my sentimental side
Should be held with kids gloves
But she doesn't know
That I left my urge in the icebox
She swears
I'm just prey to the female
Well then hook me up and throw me baby cakes
Cause I like to get hooked
The clock is set for nine
But you know you're gonna make it eight
All the people that you've loved
They're all bound to leave some keepsakes
I've been swinging all the time
Think it's time to learn your way
I picture you and me together
In the jungle it will be okay
I'll bring you when my lifeboat
Sails through the night
That is supposing that
You don't sleep tonight
It's like learning a new language
Helps me catch up on my mind
If you don't bring up those lonely parts
This could be a good time
It's like learning a new language
You come here to me
We'll collect those lonely parts
And set them down
You come here to me
She says brief things
Her love's a pony
My love's subliminal
She says brief things
Her love's a pony
My love's subliminal

This live performance is really amazing. Everything.
If he had smoked all his cigarettes in this way...his voice would still sound awesome these days
Sad but true
Damn. So true. And he wouldn't have aged so rapidly from beautiful boy to leathery middle-aged man. But Paul is still handsome.
You are all WHACKED!!! Paul still sounds and looks HOT AS FUCK!!!
Paul aged like wine, he looks hottest than ever
I guess Paul needs to... Rest His Chemistry
