Fun fact: Filming the Boxing match was a fun event for the crowd. The audience didn't know but they were originally there for a Boxing event. Then the producer announce they were going to use the crowd for a movie in production. So the cheers for Rocky was real. It must be a great life time experience to watch a Rocky movie coming to life.
Wow, didn't know this. Do you know the rich fight this happened at. This explains why it looks so real. I was thinking they had to spend a lot of money to get that fight scene, but this makes sense. A lot of "free" extras. 😆
I like how the cheers for Rocky wasnt scripted. Despite what people tell Stallone about how much of a bad idea Rocky 6 would be, it goes to show that people still love Rocky.
Talia Shire (Adrian) Was originally in the script, but she and Stallone agreed that Rocky would not have the "beast inside him" if Adrian was still there. After in a interview she was asked why she wasn't in it, and she said "I am in it... the whole movie is about ME" - Rocky would be totally happy running the restaurant with here, and would have no reason to fight. They also felt they could not kill her IN the film, because most of us would not make thru the rest of the film.
My absolute favourite part and its something that is shared a lot is Rocky's speech to his son about how hard life will hit you. That was one of the greatest speeches ever in the history of cinema!
It took 3 years to write the script for part 6. Catching the flavor of the original and just in time for the 30th Anniversary. The fight was the first thing they filmed in Mandalay Bay, to be as real as possible. Rocky's character has endured for so long and still stays humble. The speech to Rocky Jr. is the best dialogue of the film and that will always be remembered. This was the beginning of a whole new resurgence for Stallone as an actor & filmmaker. Afterwards came Rambo IV (2008), The Expendables trilogy (2010-2014), Bullet To The Head and the Escape Plan trilogy (est in 2013), etc. Not too mention, he raised his physique to unbelievable levels in his late 50s/early 60s. Sly Stallone has truly proven as Lil' Marie said "The last thing to age is the heart". RIP to Tony Burton (Duke Evers Sr.)
I honestly like all 6 Rocky movies. Can't believe you're about to start Creed next. And yeah growing up with these was special. Now you know why Johnny said Rocky Balboa was his hero
Don't trust anyone who thinks this one is "trash". Straight-up clown take. This entry brings the series back down to Earth and brings the characterisation and the heart back. Re: Paulie's painting. I think it was probably a concession to Burt Young, the actor, who is himself an accomplished artist and probably wanted to give Paulie that outlet to help him reconnect to the character. Just a guess.
The guy with the mustache is Leroy Neiman, a famous sports artist. He did that painting you noticed at the restaurant. In 1976 Olympics, he drew a mural in the background of the ABC studio behind Jim McKay while the games were going on.
You're reaction to Paulie is very empathic. He's got this brusque outer nature that is just his way, but he can be introspective about his failings. So, "...I treated her bad..." gave me the same reaction as yours. You're just a thoughtful person.
So Adrian was originally part of the film, but Stallone felt it didn't give enough dramatic weight to the character with her still present in his life, so he made the decision to have the character pass away offscreen to add weight to Rocky's state of mind. To her credit, Talia Shire loved the film and felt it was the right decision for the story.
Yeah, Stallone’s reasoning was “What’s the point in revisiting this guy’s life, if his life is still intact?”. Sucks to see Adrian gone, but Stallone did have a point. Very true to life too that not everyone we love will be with us as we age.
This has probably already been stated but the guy in the kitchen of his restaurant washing dishes was Spider Rico, Rocky's opponent in the very first moment of the first film. He even reused the line that he said after Rocky beat him (after the headbutt). "You really got lucky tonight"
Rocky's real name is Robert, so when they named their kid after him, his actual name is Robert Jr. They spent so much time calling him "the/my kid" that I can see why anyone would be confused.
This....this film has to be number 3 out of all the Rocky films. It has so much heart and Stallone shows he IS a great dramatic actor when called upon. Love this movie.
Dude, Moustache Man is none other than artist painter Leroy Neiman - he painted those famous sports pieces like Rock and Apollo - One of the greatest modern artists (imo)
I had to put my dog of 14 years down today, so this movie that deals with loss of a close loved one and even talking about naming an animal once in your life really hits hard today, but I'm thankful I get to watch it with you, even if I wasn't here to watch it live.
They chopped Paulie's big redemption moment from the final cut of the film. It was during the post-layoff alley scene, and it's definitely worth watching (it's on youtube).
I’m loving watching these Rocky movies with you!! I literally grew up with these movies and they are top tier nostalgia for me. You’re right, just enough cheese and 80s/90s-ness but the character of Rocky is so perfect and wholesome and inspiring. Thanks for taking this journey with us!! Can’t wait to get into the Creeds. I’m slightly nervous about the drama around Creed 3, but I loved 1 & 2.
It's sad to see Rocky so low, so broken but at the same time he fights to show the world and himself that he isn't done. No one is ever done until they give up
Great commentary. Anyone that has come to love the character Rocky will like this movie. Those who just don't like the movie are those who were never really emotionally invested in the character.
Massive hugs Man. I can say this hand on heart that you got more out of these films now than you would have as Kid. They hit a different spot back then that's all about the hype and the spectacle, wheres maturity sees them for true triumphant treasures they are now. You got Rocky's heart. Also, as you're an Artist you should check out Sly's own work, He's a very interesting and talented painter, well worth a Google. 💖
my favorite three: 1, 2 and 6 - because 6 is the only one that has the same vibe as 1 and 2. talia shire was available and stallone and her are good friends, no problems there. having adrian passed away was an artistic decision and if you think about it, the movie is actually about adrian all the way through.
good reaction. I'm from Germany and I have to say that the Rocky saga is my rock in my life. In January 2007 my father died and when I saw the scene in the cinema where Rocky was talking to his son, I just cried. That was the first and only time this happened to me. To this day I get tears in my eyes at this scene. But the speech has also become a kind of mantra for me
Really love all of your reactions to this film series sir. I'm so glad I'm not the only one who reacts to these movies this way. I've watched them since I was young. And love them to this day. Possibly even more. Balboa was my first super hero!😂
This was the first rocky I watched years ago, and having been watching all the films with you and the channel this movie hit that much harder this time around. I'm so excited to see creed 1 & 2 with everyone as well. Thank you for doing this!
The guy who played Mason Dixon is Antonio Tarver. He was a professional boxer and champion. He c knocked Roy Jones put. I agree with you on how the fight looks. But that is how a real fight looks with all the real announcers and commentators that you normally see. So it doesn't have the theatrics of the other. Duke did train Rocky in Rocky 3 and 4. So he did help him by Duke got old to. The eye and brain thing... yea this actually happens in real boxing as well. A fighter may be told he can't fight anymore and can't get a license to later come back after a few years to be cleared a fight again. Sometimes they do heal, sometimes it's a payoff and sometimes it's a misdiagnosis. As long as they pass the tests, they can get a license to fight.
Very nice reaction video! Like Rocky, we can see that you have plenty of heart. It was 16 years after Rocky 5 was released this came out. We didn’t think we would ever see another Rocky movie. I was so excited when I heard Rocky 6 was in production. I thought it was the perfect ending to his story. The fade out at the end is a fitting way to say goodbye to this character that has meant so much to us for so many years. 9 years later, out of the blue, Creed is released and we were overjoyed to see Rocky again! The two Creed movies are excellent. They keep the classic feel, but take us someplace new as well. I hope you enjoy them.
Sly is a very accomplished artist. On his reality show Jennifer and he just got a private walk thru and they asked him if they could show/hang some of his art.
Marie was recast for this film. The original actress has said that she was disappointed that Stallone didn't reach out to her. She had appeared as Marie in a deleted scene from Rocky 5. She wasn't happy about her scene getting cut.
Sly has said he was dealing with “depression” before he wrote this. The phone had stopped ringing and he was spending a lot of alone time in his office/man cave. Then he wrote and shot this and he started getting movies again and he felt Rocky had a good ending. While a lot of us enjoy it Rocky 5 is his least favorite.
The issue with people not liking Tommy wasn’t necessarily due to a lack of decent competition. The crowds turned on him because they knew he turned his back on Rocky in favor of money and a quick (not to mention less ethical) path to the title.

I subscribed because of this, you won a like from me, and also my heart a lil bit. Let me tell you something. I consider myself the biggest Rocky fan that there is. And i know that feeling that suddenly got you, so well... I have been watching the movies over and over again, also reactions like yours over and over again and EVERY SINGLE TIME I CRY. I find you learn something different everytime you watch these. And i thank you for giving the world your honest reaction, we are rocky bros now, and i hope this inspiration stays with you, all of your life. I take inspiration from your channel and i wish i could do something similar someday. I am also in my mid 30s. Keep going man!! (Id recomend you watch the channel "once upon a reaction" how she reacts to this one)
I really appreciate that! It was really intimidating coming into this but it was so good and there is just so much to take away from it! It's easily one of my all time favorite franchises now and Rocky is in my top 10 favorite fictional characters! I've not heard of that channel, I will have to check them out! Thank you so much for the comment and welcome!
Rocky 5 did happen. I think the explaination Stallone gave was that medical technology had advanced in the 16 years since 5 and the damage wasn't as bad as they originally thought. But Rocky 5 was referenced in this one when he says to Robert "I just wanted us to get involved like Home Team."
NOOOOOOOOO apologies necessary! All of us who were blessed to grow up with these movies are forever and ever affected. In fact, I carry their messages with me, to this very day. In fact, how special is this series? Rocky is actually not my favorite character... it's Apollo. Once again, THANK YOU for another great reaction... absolutely no apologies necessary -- we get it, totally and completely.
So the champ mite not seem so good is the fact is that hes not a actor he's a real boxer antio tarva he was a real chap same as tommy gun was real heavy champ his real name was tommy morrison and in creed 1 the main fighters are real boxers so there acting isnt the best

They did creed 1 it at Leeds (uk) football stadium after a football game as everyone one to if they would like to be part of a film (2 hours later)
@@glenndunhill2258 It was Liverpool/Everton I believe.
@@TayannaStudios correct. It was Everton''s Goodison Park in Liverpool. other fun fact, Stallone's favourite football team is Everton.

The guy he calls "Spider", doing the dishes in his restaurant basement is "Spider Rico" his first opponent in rocky 1!
“Paulie is like a sour patch kid” was the funniest thing I’ve ever heard, and so true!

The fight was filmed in the middle of an actual boxing event that was taking place, which is probably why it felt the way it did.

"Yo Adrian, we did it"
It's not that Sage Stallone couldn't reprise his role. Sly was afraid people would think their onscreen relationship mirrored their real relationship (Sly states this on the commentary).

Sage Stallone unfortunately passed years before this movie. Stallone picked this actor because he had a “crooked” mouth like rocky does.
Sage died. Sly has no more sons. Lost them al in 1
Are there really people that think Rocky V is better than this one?
So the champ mite not seem so good is the fact is that hes not a actor he's a real boxer antio tarva he was a real chap same as tommy gun was real heavy champ his real name was tommy morrison and in creed 1 the main fighters are real boxers so there acting isnt the best
