Eric, thanks for putting this lesson up. I do have one place that I'm hearing something different, though… on the verses, I could swear that the top note on the guitar is a G#, meaning that the "E" chord would be played as a triad on the 16th fret. Your "A" sounds exactly right, though.

Hi... What your doing sounds great but I suspect the main riff is actually played barred at the 9th fret (Watch INXS live ua-cam.com/video/KygvdzH0gj4/v-deo.html you can see the guitarist barred at the 9th at 19 seconds in). What your playing really works but playing at the 9th Fret (essentially the E is an inversion) is much more comfortable and easier to play for the duration of the song (maybe it was played as your version in studio and possibly looped)
Hi! As I always say in the beginning of my tutorials, "I will show you MY WAY of playing this song". I don't even check to see how original artists play their songs. I play them the way that is most comfortable for me(which I think everyone should do) and share it on my channel. Thanks so much for watching!
I agree. If you watch the Wembley concert, he is at the 9th fret, and i found it easier playing it at the 9th fret. 😃
I wasn't at all trying to knock in anyway the creator of this tutorial when I uploaded my original comment 12 months ago (it a really good tutorial). I would however suggest trying to play this riff both as suggested in the tutorial and at the 9th fret - I think it just feels so much better played as an inversion at 9th fret (each to there own but try it both ways and see which feels best:))

Great lesson, Eric! Can you explain why many experienced guitarists do that little "slide" (which really seems to serve no purpose) like you do at 2:51 and 2:59? These seemingly extraneous movements have always confounded me.
It serves no purpose lol! That is just a way players use up excess energy that they are not using while playing something that does not require all of their ability. How did you get such amazing tone?
I try to go with the sound of just the guitar and amp when possible. The amp I use the most is my Fender Princeton Chorus with 2-10" speakers. Any guitar sounds good played through that amp.
