The thing that gets me is that all too often when one sees the mothers of these children on TV they look, to put it charitably, very well fed.

That doesn't entirely diminish the point though, it's not about lack of money, it's about their lack of ability to function in society. i.e. they're literally too stupid to properly spend the money the government provides them with. They don't buy raw ingredients and prepare them themselves, they buy pre prepared microwave meals or takeaways. Dealing wiht this problem is not just about a few more handouts.

School dinners used to be proper dinners, potatoes, vegetables and meat or fish with cake and custard after, now the children who get free dinners can only afford a fish finger sized hash brown and a drink. The older children especially boys can be nearly 6 feet tall and it's just not enough to fill them up. Need proper dinner ladies who cook real meals instead of contracts for pre made, processed rubbish.

My school dinners were awesome. Always a choice of 3 mains, one being more on the healthy side and always a couple of puds. It seemed to all go to pot in the 80s/90s then Jamie Oliver got involved and it seems to have got worse. Where I'm from McDonald's is rammed with kids b4 school, then again at lunchtime and again after school.

Been going on for 20 years at least. It is just that the middle classes are getting hit by it now. As someone who grew up poor but managed to get a good job and get myself out of poverty, I would never trust government ever. Ill be visiting my family in Leeds in october as I bought my house in the SE after moving because of work, they were in joy when labour got voted in. Lets see what now happens. I for one could care less who is in office, i know the political parties want me to be reliant on them so ill vote them back in, while they take the cake and pass on the crumbs and tell me why I should be happy.

It’s not rocket science, if everything goes up & wages stay the same then people struggle to get by.
That’s when parents become more conscience of how quick the fridge becomes low & the everyday essentials list becomes lower

If there are concerns about children not being fed, how about every school has a breakfast club and lunch for every child, and get rid of child benefit. And during the holidays, give them a voucher for food only.

The funny thing is, the Labour party always claims to be on the side of "the marginalized" and "the vulnerable", but only when they have the ability to vote. Pay rises for government employees who were already on 40k + salaries, but leaving kids to go hungry.

A lot of parents are uneducated and lazy. I work in a school there are parents who are quick to buy the latest whatever, phones, clothes, eyebrows, eyelashes done etc but can’t be bothered to read or feed their kids. Very few are in true poverty the ones that are, are very quiet about it but you can tell.

How about London's mayor? He wanted to feed all children. Brits are actually so colonial (one myself, but possibly more travelled). In schools in South Africa, where entire schools must be fed, the children are given a hard boiled egg, and later, a peanut butter sandwich.

This country could be so rich it could afford to give every child free school meals but lets be honest were putting the money where its not wanted, Great example paying grown ass men that have no right to be here after coming illegally in hotels and costing us a fortune. I bet they dont miss out on any meals do they.

Exactly, and it is not because of 'boat people' it's lazy parents who couldn't be bothered waking up at 6am in the morning to fix their children two slices of toasted bread with jam or butter and a glass of milk or juice.Lazy people who refuse to take up accountability.
