Thank You for your kind words and any “real” farmer knows that you make do with what you’ve got. I think Ace Hardware caught on to me because they don’t sell their excess lime at discount at the end of the season anymore. I used to buy whatever they had in stock and there are 3 stores within easy striking distance. I still get my potting soil and that stuff in September when it’s 40% off. My brother in law puts in around 5-6000 bales a year , has lime applied from a truck and it has a cloud too. Thank You for watching.

It’ll work, as obviously it’s spreading fine. Spreader trucks and trailers use spinners too. They just hold tons of lime per load, and that’s the trouble with the 3 point spreader is quantity. It’ll take multiple loads per acre to get enough.

Appreciate your sharing this! Since I only have 30 something acres worth of pasture needing lime on my place, I think I dropped to the bottom of the accounts priority lists 2 years in a row and two different lime applicators were no-shows and couldn't even be bothered to return calls. Forget anything you've ever heard about the Midwest work ethic or business standards - it's a myth. Also, forget the axiom, "If you want something done right, do it yourself." Change that to, "If you want something done at all, do it yourself." The fact that lime has gone up so much in price since then is the really aggravating part. If I got any satisfaction, it was rejecting the loads of N, P&K Nutrien wanted to apply after it was them who referred me to the no-show operators for lime application. They literally tried to pressure me to accept delivery, but what's the point if uptake of fertilizer would be poor because the ph is so acidic? It was at least a little satisfying to see them take a loss for partnering with useless flakes who can't deliver on a promise.
I have a ground drive spreader comparable to yours and didn't know if it was even possible to spread pulverized lime with it, which is something I can get at a local box store for a somewhat reasonable price. They also carry pelletized lime, but the percent of calcium carbonate is 25% lower per pound with 20% less volume per unit. It will certainly be a lot of work applying tons in 100 lb. increments, but at least it will finally get done! Thanks again for the upload!

With regard to getting anything done, I’ve learned that as well. It’s been a steep learning curve indeed. My local Ace hardware stores (3 witching 10 mi radius) have 50% off lawn care products come fall, which is perfect because that’s when it’s ideal here to spread. Best of luck and thank you for watching. 😊

@@LedgemereHeritageFarm Good tip! We have an Ace store, but I hadn't thought to check there. I sure wouldn't mind catching some savings during a fall sale, so thank you!

Good job! Here in Brazil, lime are essential element on agriculture. Our soils have low pH and low levels of calcium and magnesium

In Maine, we have low selenium in the soil and have to give pregnant ewes supplements to avoid problems with lambs. I mostly fertilize with manure and then lime. Thank you for watching

Powdered lime is better spread with a drop spreader to help cut down on the lime cloud. The lime that is spread in large fields is ag lime, not fine powdered, but finely ground that has some weight to it so it falls and doesn't blow away. What you did works, but you don't get the 2 tons per acre required to raise PH, but your trees will like it. :) If you need to do it again, look into getting a truck load of ag lime instead of the bags, might even be less expensive.

I wish there was a way to get a truck out there for sure. I bought pelletized this year because that’s what they had. Ace hardware usually sells whatever’s leftover for 40% off. I for sure didn’t get down enough. Thank You for watching

I have an antique drop spreader. When I tried it 15 or 20 years ago it kept "caking " . I can't remember the brand. I haven't tried it since

Pro rpm should be at 540 RPMs.

The seeder is designed to operate at 540 PTO rpm’s. This should get you a 40 ft spread at this rpm. Powdered lime and AG lime make a lot of dust. We buy it by the semitruck load(25 tons) and spread it with a fertilizer spreader. A closed cab is nice for spreading lime.

You think it did fine what do I think? I think it depends on if you achieved the application rate the soil test called for. All in all it's likely better than nothing. I find the beater / auger an interesting device on your spreader.

It works for sure. There’s usually only a tiny bit left at the bottom and pendulum spreaders seem to be much more expensive. I only paid $150 for this one

I use it on my lawns, my weeds love it here in Virginia. I grow more weeds than grass. As long as it’s green it’s ok with me.

Ive been mixing dolomite and pelletized 50/50 for better flow out of my drop spreader. 🦌
Now Im wondering if I even need the pelletized at all.

A soil test from the agricultural extension service will tell you how much to apply. It’s taken me 10 years to get my fields in order, but I started seeing results in a year or two
