This show is very wholesome, great questions from Josh and Ollie and Ming looks like he had a good time. Also a fun fact about SHINee members is that all of them has at least a masters degree:-
Onew: Master’s degree in Practical Music from Chungwoon University and he was last known to be studying for a Ph.D. in Music Broadcasting (but Shawols mentioned that he has once mentioned that he completed his PHD)
Jonghyun (who dropped out of high school in 10th grade): Master’s degree in Film and Musical Studies from Myongji University
Key: Degree in Film and Musical Studies and Master’s degree in Culture and Education Contents Development at Woosuk University
Minho: Master’s degree in Film Acting from Konkuk University
Taemin: Master’s degree in Film and Musical Studies from Myongji University

When you know all the backstory of Minho, you appreciate Ollie's questions a lot more. While other SHINee members all had a dream of becoming an idol or a singer, Minho only dreamed of becoming a professional soccer player. His dad was a professional soccer player for Korean national team and was only home once a few years. Minho mentioned he only saw his dad a handful of times growing up. His dad was strongly against Minho becoming a professional soccer player and threaten to kick Minho out of the house if he tried. Minho was skiing with his brother when three female SM agents found him and was literally chasing him and gave him their business cards, which was later threw away by his mother who thought this was a scam. They then called his home phone multiple times and went to his school to talk to him until his parents agreed for him to join SM. Good job SM agents 😄. With that Minho joined SM and despite his crazy busy schedule, took the college entrance exam like any other normal student (no special treatment or added score) right after flying back from a oversea sports variety show filming and scored really well that he could have went to one of the top three universities in Korea but decide not to because of his crazy busy schedule with SHINee. There is no doubt Minho would have excelled even if he decide not to become an idol. So I have always wondered if he ever think about what would have happened if he didn't join SM. Despite being famous super young, he was able to keep a group of normal friends from school and even during his military services, so he didn't miss out entirely on the normal life. On a recent fan meeting, he even said he takes public transportation often because everyone wears mask and is always on their phone so no one really recognized him, haha.
He'll never know - I bet some commuters would've recognized him in the train but was respectful enough to give him the privacy. I probably would've freaked out inside lolz
His older brother was a good scholar too. I think brains do run in his family 😄
@@Julianna_w True, but even his brother, who consistently ranked top 10 of the school had to study an extra year to get into best university in Korea. I am more amazed with Minho who has been a trainee since middle school and was literally promoting ring ding dong and dream team were able to take the exam normally not to mention doing really well. The last year of high school student in Korea is nothing but studying. When does he even find time to study or attend class? He must have an insane memory and super efficient.
Whoa! The more we learn about him, the more amazed we are by all he's accomplished so far. It's also interesting how many trainees have professional athletes in their immediate family...
Also, we can thank Minho’s parents who included a clause in his contract that required SM to ensure he’d stay in school and complete his studies for CSAT. And other SM idol parents took to that clause for their kids after that too, since so many kids join at such young ages without the guarantee of debuting.
Just so you know, the guy with the salmon colored shirt -- the "Korean Englishman" -- his name is Josh. Josh and Ollie have become pretty big name UA-camrs and they have been producing Korean-based content on their Korean Englishman UA-cam channel for probably close to 10 years now. They interview people from big name Hollywood actors like Will Smith, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Ryan Reynolds, etc. to sports stars like David Beckham and Kpop stars such as Korean-American Kpop soloist Eric Nam, Henry Lau from Super Junior-M, Mark, Jaehyun and Johnny from NCT, etc. to regular people like their friends and family, whom they have made UA-cam famous over the years.
When Western actors come to Korea for press junkets to promote their latest movie or events they introduce them to Korean culture and food while doing their interviews. And over the years they have brought their friends and family to Korea to introduce them to Korean culture, filming vlogs and videos of all the things they do while they are in Korea. (For their most recent series that they just wrapped up, they spent a week in Korea with a group of students from a British boys high school introducing them to everything that they could with Korean culture. The boys were a group they have been working with over the past 2 years during the pandemic when they couldn't come to Korea in order to continue to make Korean-based content.) However, on average, Josh and Ollie say they come to Korea for about a week or so once a month, to film and do business, etc.
As you heard, Josh spent time living and studying in Korea when he was young, and most of his friends growing up were Korean, so he gained a love for Korean Culture and he even earned a degree in Korean language at university. Josh and Ollie met while they were at university and became best friends. They started messing around posting videos online and eventually were able to turn it into a full-time career. (They also have a second -- just as popular -- UA-cam Channel called Jolly, where they post content about food from all over the world.)
They post videos on both of their channels every week.
Josh's wife Gabbie is also Korean-British, and she is a professional chef who has won one of the seasons of Masterchef.
And although Ollie isn't fluent in Korean, he actually understands most of what people say in Korean and he is proficient enough to be able to communicate with their Korean staff on his own, he just may not form perfect sentences all the time, but most Koreans can understand what he means when he speaks Korean.
Ollie is the producer of the show that is often the one behind the camera and Josh is the content creator and main interviewer. Ollie is in charge of filming and editing and Josh is the one leading the show most of the time.

I watched this Minho had me laughing so hard 😂 that’s one of the reasons why he’s my bias he makes me laugh. And he’s also nice to look at lol what’s funny is he became my bias when I first watched hwarang. When I saw that I was like yep he’s my bias 😂

When news of Minho's enlistment first broke out I expected him to pick the toughest option and sure enough, he got accepted into the Marine Corps lol. He kinda regretted his choice by the 2nd day of boot camp but I guess he adapted and ended up enjoying his time there. In fact he opted not to take his leave days to discharge earlier because he wanted to take part in a national competition involving Marines from all over the country. He talked about how tough those soldiers were - it was hilarious listening to him talk about how close he was to giving up during a race but he and his mates dug deep. I won't be surprised if that was one of the most challenging things he had to do in his entire life.
I noticed that many idols have done well during their enlistment, probably because of their high level of discipline and the amount of focus required during performances. Some get promoted and some of them even got awarded - Xiumin was the top shooter in his unit and BTOB's Eunkwang got awards as well. TVXQ's Yunho performed so well that the military offered him a permanent position - not like SM's ever going to let him go lol
It's crazy he never bring it up that he didn't just do military service, he went to the Marine Corps and got fourth place in the running competition with special force team.
@@TZheng-ue1mp I was expecting him to apply for the Marine Corps and had a good laugh when I found out that he really did! Our boy is fiery as always.
But he did surprise me that his unit got 4th placing. I know the military experience will stay with him for life which is why I'm never too sad when idols enlist because it's a rite of passage for them, something that they should be proud of.
WOW - that is so ambitious and amazing of him to choose such a tough training/service unit! And we completely agree that all veterans deserve to be proud of their service.
Korean Englishman!! They're both so much fun and have great chemistry, I love their channel 😍 Also the second channel of Josh and Ollie, called Jolly, is awesome as well. If you ever need some good laugh, I recommend Josh and Ollie, especially during a morning coffee to start a day with the smile haha
You quickly fall in love with them, their families and their group of friends (that are regulars on their channels). Btw, both Josh and Ollie are married and Ollie has a daughter, she is sooo cute 💖 They have some videos with her as well.
I love how both Josh and Ollie can make everyone they're interviewing comfortable and laughing, doesn't matter if it's a regular guy, kpop idol, Korean celebrity, professional sportsman or Hollywood actor.
Now I would love to see Key doing an interview with them! 😁
And oh, if you ever want to get to know Josh and Ollie more (not even in a reaction video, just in your personal time), they have an interview on DIVE Studios as a guests on one of the Eric Nam's podcasts (video version is on youtube), where they're talking about the beginning of their youtube career, how they became friends, their weddings (and best man speeches 😂) etc. It's fun and interesting at the same time 😊
Edit (about SHINee bias): I don't have a bias in SHINee - I gave up long time ago and just claimed them all 😂
Usually I have no problem picking a bias, I go with my gut feeling while choosing, so I don't even have a logical reason for that 😅 but in all kpop groups that I stan (and I have many), there are two in which the whole group, every member from the beginning, was literally pulling me in so much, that I couldn't pick a bias - SHINee and ATEEZ.
And since I don't use any logic while picking a bias, I don't even have an explanation to why these two are different, but yeah.
You're welcome to also stop worrying about who's your bias in SHINee and just have them all haha ❤️

Yes, if you have time, watch Korean Englishman, it's funny, entertaining and informative. Also, there's 1-2 episodes where they talk to members of NCT. When I saw the preview of Minho with them I was so excited because their personalities go so well together. It was a great interview and I learned that Minho's name is Fireworks of Charisma and not Flaming Charisma? I really hope they get to do a London episode some day.
A London episode would be great! We will def have to check out the NCT episode in the future. :)

When all the comment is because they're Shinee fans and here I am coming as fan of Korean Englishman channel 😅. Josh (the guy in the middle) really went to study in Korea & also China. His wife is Korean (and also a chef). So Josh is really fluent in Korean. Olly somewhat understand Korean but don't speak Korean because they have some Korean crews whenever they filming in Korea. So most of the time you can talk to him in Korean and he'll reply you in full English. So this episode he talk a lot in Korean. He normally behind the camera.
Their channel has lots of content introducing Korean food to Western celebrities and local British people. I'm a fan because they have this whole series of introducing Korean food to British highschoolers and they bring them to Korean over this summer. I think I found their channel when they introduce Korean food to Avengers actors
So cool! We loved their chemistry and how comfortable they made Minho feel - plus, those great questions...We will definitely be checking out more of their content.
@LaChiMoLaLa yesss. U should check out their channel. They have another channel where the content is not related to Korean food or culture called JOLLY. I saw 1 eps with lead vocalist from The Rose in that channel.
Oh there's few eps where Olly bring his wife and daughter to Korea and she is the cutest little thing ever. I think she was 2 or 3 at that time.

And his brother is close friends with another celeb called Kunst, a panel on Key’s I live alone show. It was funny watching those two just talking about their Choi bros competitiveness and just genetic lottery winning battle stories. Minho talks about how his brother is just everything he tries to win at, but to hear Kunst tell it, his brother adores him and supports him just as much. Also minho using his brother’s Netflix account not knowing it’s paid streaming is another level of cute.
I so appreciate hearing him talk about his family! You can really hear all the love there 🥰

Sorry but I had to do 2 posts, because 1 would be too long. About having a bias in SHINee, it's impossible for me. I know other people can pick one, but I can't and don't call me weak willed either. I've said it before, I thought my faves were Jonghyun and Minho but that lasted for a hot minute. Onew's vocals and his smile were too distracting, then I saw Taemin's solo work, nuf said, and then Key dropped Gasoline on us. 5HINee is my bias, it's easier on me this way😍🤩
