Normal Distribution:
The normal distribution is a probability distribution that is commonly used in statistics. It has a bell shape and is symmetrical around its mean. The mean, median and mode are all equal and located at the center of the distribution. About 68% of data falls within one standard deviation of the mean, about 95% of data falls within two standard deviations of the mean, and about 99.7% of data falls within three standard deviations of the mean.
Properties of normal distribution:
A normal distribution is a continuous probability distribution that has a bell-shaped curve. It is also known as a Gaussian distribution.
Some of the key properties of a normal distribution include:
The mean, median, and mode are all equal and located at the center of the distribution.
The distribution is symmetric about the mean-half the values fall below the mean and half above the mean.
The total area under the curve is equal to 1.
The curve is asymptotic, meaning that it approaches but never touches the x-axis.
In a class of 60 students, the average height of students is found to be 165 cm and the standard deviation is 25 cm. A student is selected at random what is the probability that,:
a) Height is more than 172 cm?
b) Height less than 160 cm?
