  • Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) and Tesla are building one of the largest battery energy storage installations in the world.
    When completed the battery will tip the scales at 182.5 MW and 730 MWh. The Moss Landing battery will be comprised of 256 Tesla Megapack battery units on 33 concrete slabs at PG&E’s electric substation in Moss Landing. The project’s targeted completion and energization is set for early-2021, with the project achieving full commercial operation in Q2 2021.

    About EKM Metering:
    EKM Metering is a relative newcomer to the metering industry, yet it has quickly established itself as a leading provider of submetering systems and services. Founded with the promise of providing advanced metering solutions that don’t break the bank, EKM is delivering on that promise by offering meters at the lowest price point in the industry while continuously pushing their technology forward. To that end, EKM sets itself apart with the EKM Push system, which provides high resolution electric, water, and gas meter data in the cloud, for free. This allows for super easy and economical tenant billing, cost allocation, energy initiative compliance, solar and EV metering, as well as load profiling of industrial buildings, commercial facilities, factories, offices, and educational buildings.

      This part of California, and also being next to the Pacific Ocean, almost never gets to the freezing point of water. Not a problem.

    Looks like like all the megapacks have been delivered. Final steps are just installation of the connecting and control infrastructure. Won't be long now.

      Megapack goes up 100x faster as the Controller, Inverter, and BMS are Intergrated into each Megapack.
      TESLA Powerpacks still require sepreate controller and Inverter Cabnets.

    I'm wondering what cold temp precautions were designed with this system since the freak winter storm the just destroyed Texas?

    Question 🙋‍♂️ The Tesla Plant’s footprint vs. the Moss peaker plant’s out put? Can the Tesla plant run one daily cycle of Peak power demand or many?

  • @SuperDagod1
    @SuperDagod1 3 роки тому +4

    Is that a peaker plant behind it. I suspect these mega packs will destroy a lot of coal plants at 10% of the cost

    • @roaminganimal
      @roaminganimal 3 роки тому +1

      No. The large stacks are from the old Super Critical Power plant. The 4 stacks, if you know what to look for, is a 1000 MW natural gas combined cycle power plant. Hardly a peaker and far more important to the grid that the average person realizes.

      Better world how? Can I ask what the batteries are made of? Can I ask where we get that material? Can I ask how it is harvested? Can I ask what type of environmental impact there is for getting the material and manufacturing the batteries? Can I ask what the environmental and health impact is when one of those energy storage units runs away and catches on fire? Can I ask what the environmental impact will be in 10-20, 30+ years from now when all these solar panels and batteries with finite lifespans are expended? What about the large millions of acres needed and the wildlife displaced from that? Natural Gas power plants are more critical now than ever. I admit they are not the long term solution. But the future you are talking about arrived in April of 1957 with the first electrical generating Nuclear Power Plant. Nuclear is the best energy source, then, now and in the future until we discover something better.

      No. That is the old Super Critical power plant.

      Moss Landing has been a major power plant for decades. There used to be 7 natural gas generators, but five have been shut down. There are now two battery farms there, one from Tesla in what used to be the parking lot, and the other by someone else, in the turbine hall, the long building behind the Tesla units. They are located here because the heavy duty power lines are already in place.

    I see energy storage but no energy generation ... perhaps it is still years away. If one man can do that much ... what the country with $1.9T stimulus could do if invested in the same ... but we are giving away all this money so that people can pay their bills for gas and electricity from the fossil fuels.

      The energy source doesn't need to be pressed against it. Also - they can store energy from multiple sources (solar, wind, fossil fuels). They are pretty cool man. They'll be 500+ megapack battery farms within a year or two. And I agree on the re-purposing the 1.9T but I'd like to see the fossil fuel market exist. Don't want to remove jobs. Maybe store more energy then needed and transfer to it out? $
