You know, I’ve not bowled seriously in 12 years (or so). I’ve recently gotten back into it and just felt all over the place. Having Kyle describe what was going on with his start cleared up the confusion for me as well. Your videos are crazy helpful; you have no idea! Hopefully I can get to a lane by this weekend and get some practice in!
This wonderful explained in Brian Voss's book "Bare Bones Bowling", it is amazing how supporting the ball with you left hand and as Klye says, step with the left foot, then push the ball in and arc and continue. The freeness of the arm is great.
Great take on how a fundamental aspect of the bowling swing can go awry- thanks guys . A question related to the takeaway- how can the ball get to head high on the backswing without muscling when the push away is only waist to lower chest high ?
Would love to see a video where you guys explain the difference in starting the ball by your chest vs starting the ball lower by your hip, why you would do each of those starts and when it’s appropriate to do which one
Update on my comment..Before the holiday break...I really focused on this. It felt really good..nice and easy..fluid...720-30 pace for the night..left greek church in 10th..lost a ton of count. But, thanks for a tip we forget often..basics..keep it simple..
Been bowling and drinking and having fun with the boys for the last 20 years and never knew these little things matter! Much appreciation for the tips!
I used to bowl with Kris' dad..Anthony..hes a mirror image of his dad..so smooth..AP..one of the best bowlers I've seen..super nice guy too..they used to own an alley in Pensacola..might still do..I moved..so I'm not sure
@@Wildbear28 They still do, and I bowl on a couple of leagues with AP. Kris' parents are good people. And I got to watch AP shoot 279 on me about a month ago. Imagine those two showing up to a father-son tournament.
I have a natural straight throw but lately I’ve been trying the two handed throw and honestly my score increased which I guess I’m doing ok definitely need more consistency but I love that it gives me revs and man does the pins just move around. I wish I could do it one handed but for some reason I’m not doing something correctly. Definitely need a coach . I’ve been bowling since I was like 5 and I had an average when I was 8 of 150 I wish I would’ve kept at it but I was gone for a long time but watching you guys I’ve been bowling every week again
I started league bowling in 1979. Back then the accepted practice was to do the pushaway horizontally forward when you start. That is why it is named pushaway. That action delays pulling the ball back so the swing is in time. But today the accepted practice is to delay the limited pushaway until after the first step. While that newer approach yields more power, I still do it the old way because I believe it yields greater consistency, and I don't change much.
Love this. I am trying to correct my swing which has pause with my right foot at push away. Of course this threw the timing off at the line. Keep up the good work. Love to see you 2 going head to head for a championship.
I’m a newer bowler, only in my second year and you guys have been a big help in my game! The question I have for you guys is how do you guys quiet your mind enough to focus up when you hit the lanes for a tournament if you can’t get anything going cause your mental game is off? I’ve never been able to quiet your mind.
Is a very nasty habit..I've fell into myself lately. Appreciate this tip and the heads up..like you mentioned, just crept up. Been trying everything in the book to fix whatever was going on, except this..Thanks guys, wish y'all the best of luck and a Happy Holiday season.
So do you use strong balls, weak or both. I only use two balls right now, the radical squatch hybrid, and a rhino, and they go great working together, with the squatch dialing in early, and the rhino is great on less oil, but they overhook with no oil, so I’m getting a urethane ball
Bowling is ALL about timing, one tiny error will jeopardize your shot. Very difficult game to master considering there are so many mechanics that take place to deliver the ball at release. Repetitive body programming with practice is your best chance to learn and teach your muscle memory to repeat and execute shots consistently. Just my 2 cents. Great video guys
When I feel my timing off ,I'll go back to when I was first thought on timing, and that was king of the same thing ,but just pretend there's a table that you put it on, on the second step.
The term Push away is" old school" it make you think of a push off movement, I like to call it ball placement that describe the hole concept better, when you push something its often in a straight line, Think of it more as a hinge, and your timing point1 will bee more optimal. Keep up the good work!
I use my just 2 fingers instead of 3 to grab and shot the ball and I’m not a two hand player. Is this a right style of playing? And if yes please advise some points about how to have a better release.
The pushaway I look at it is I'm putting groceries on a table I just set the ball in and you imagine in this case the ball is the grocery bag. It gets the ball into the swing quickly but not too quickly so it makes that nice ark. Great video! Say
This is a great example of when an obvious issue is caused by some other underlying problem. People will tell you, "just don't grab it!", but not recognize that there's some other problem that is forcing you to grab it.
Great Video thanks!!! hah, that song playing very low during the video gave me a creepy clown vibe. Keep up the great work, looking forward to more videos!!!
It is hard to try to remain still on the first step of the 5 step approach. For me it’s a mental thing. My physical coach advises me to think drop with a rounded shape. Good luck Kyle.
Still looks like you push forward before swinging down....I had/have the same issue and I concentrate at letting my swing pivot from the elbow so I don't let the elbow go forward before the downswing.
Are you saying that push away is bad? That is how I learned, when you said something about having to grip it because you pushed it away that hit me. I know that I grip the ball hard and wonder if it has to do with my push away
Another great video thanks guys. Got to say I'm jelous , we haven't been able to bowl here for a month and it looks like another 4 weeks at least. Feels like the season is a write off.
I took a lesson with Kyle in June 2019 and the push away is what we worked a ton on. And it helped me so much!
Reno 911 called, the want their mustache back🤣
Great vid guys!
CA still in lockdown. Bowled once all year. Thanks for keeping me motivated while going insane not being able to bowl. Like the stache on Kyle!
Another great video from Brad and Freddie Mercury. Brad it's time for your mustache.

Great information. I've been working on this for seemingly forever.

Love this Channel! This is exactly what I have been trying to tweak in my game. Thanks for the video!
Been bowling and drinking and having fun with the boys for the last 20 years and never knew these little things matter! Much appreciation for the tips!
Would there be any way to do a video with the two different approaches superimposed? To give a better visual of the different push aways
Great tips! Makes me think of Kris Prather’s push away and swing. So smooth and easy.
It reminds me of Mika Koivuviemi

Quiet my mind*
Helps a lot to do this I was always a lil slow down the lane because of my arm dropped an not much power but a fuller swing is the key thanks guys.
Kyle, I'm growing that 70s pornstar stache too. I tell everyone that Kyle Sherman made me 😁

Shout to these two dudes mayne. Bowlin is tough
Great video guys, since I’ve been using y’all videos my game is slowing improving
Very true!! Thanks Brad and Kyle
Im trying to build a 6 ball ars, i would love to see an updated 6 ball ars video. Escpcially from Brad, since i throw Storm and Roto.
Me too

Thank you guys I watched this and figured out I was starting my push away way to low
Currently working this as well. I was trying to control the down swing. Working with my coach, my ball speed increased 3mph
Definitely a weakness in my game, and working to correct it!!! Thank you!!!

How do you carry that ball so high behind you as you approach?
I like the mustache Kyle it looks good
very useful tip
the intro song gives me greenback boogie feels from suits
I take 5 steps as a right handed bowler and on my 2nd step (right foot) I push it straight out, so that’s bad?
Name and artist of the opening song?!
How does that work online?
I do that!

That Stash! 😳
That is exactly my problem. When I start my steps I tend to stop for a second then continue, my approach is not smooth.
Do you look at the arrow or do you look at the pins
With that pushaway you look like Nelson Burton Jr. in his swing. Might be my imagination but looks and works great.
