As someone who is NOT mechanical in anyway… I’ve learned so much from my buddy already. It’s easy to take apart and I’m learning how to do some things by myself.

Seriously the absolute best purchase ever. I ended up with the 170, I want to change out the stock headlight for a new LED but I’m certain it may void my warranty 😅

Thanks for the review. I had my eye on a Vespa until I sat on one. I’m only 5’2” and my feet were barely touching the ground. I felt more comfortable sitting on the Buddy scooter and it costs far less than a Vespa.

Around here (Central PA), Buddys hold their value very well!

Genuine is an importer, the Buddies/Kick/Hooligan are made by PGO in Taiwan with very good value to $ and reliability. Genuine has and does import from other makers and countries so each bring their own peculiarities. I agree on the Buddy series (BuBu when PGO branded) they are a hoot to ride in town with the size, power and wheels.

The buddies now really really hold their value. It’s changed over the years. I’ll tell you that.

Buddies have great resale value, I don’t know what your basis is for saying otherwise. The design is basically unchanged since 2008 and most parts between the 50/125/150/170i are interchangeable, so parts support and availability are great. Genuine Scooters has recently imported several other models besides the Buddy that haven’t caught on as well. Not sure about their resale situation.

Great info! I’m thinking of adding a scooter to my collection. Lol. Researching scooters right now. I love the look and the price of the Buddy 125. Sounds like you would recommend them?

@@lolaleslie66 If you like the look and the price, IMO you won't be disappointed by durability, parts availability, and relative ease of maintenance. Buddies are a big step up from Chinese scooters and have most of the attractive attributes of Vespas of similar size, at a much lower price.

@@tenders I really am thinking of selling my KX85 dirtbike and getting one of these instead. I can't ride my dirtbike here in Calfornia between May and October because of environmental regulations (I have a red sticker). My husband is resistant though. lol

If it's 50-300cc from taiwan, it's basically on par with honda/suzuki/yamaha/kawasaki from thailand.

You should go on Craigslist and get an old honda helix 250cc. Made from 1986? Thru 2007 virtually unchanged. With a trunk and 75mph top speed , you will love it. Parts are readily available and a nice specimen can be found for around 1k dollars.

Thats a great suggestion. Ive seen those around. It seems prices of bikes and motos have gone up lately.

I've come to love scooters. I recently completed an MSF course, got my M license, and picked up a Honda Rebel 1100 DCT. But I must say that having a Genuine Roughhouse really helped me prepare for the course. People will say that there's no way a scooter can help you prepare for the course but I completely disagree based on my experience with the Roughhouse.
Despite having the Rebel which I absolutely ❤❤❤, I have my eye on a Genuine Buddy. I've been wanting the 170, but from watching this the 125 seems to have all the power I'd need and then some for the kind of riding I'd do with it.

Based on how fast that rear wheel spins after starting it, the carburetor idle speed is set much too high. Easy fix. You say otherwise but the carb definitely has an automatic choke/enricher for initial starts. And there are lots of phone mounts that attach easily to the mirror bolts, like the windshield attaches. No different from Vespas in that respect. Yours sounds particularly growly on the highway, and if you are hitting 65 on a 125 there is a very good chance the engine has a big bore kit installed and isn’t really a 125.

The brand is absolutely worth buying. The craftsmanship is top tier. I bought a '06 last year. It has high mileage but it still ran like brand new and it's held up very well, especially considering how much it was used

Do you suggest the Buddy 125, the seller says it needs a carburetor, my mechanic says it's fishy, it only has 90 miles mileage. What do you thin

    • @VehicleHunter

They are really good. I've had two and they were reliable but carbs always need cleaning. If it doesn't have a carb i dont know why. But you can get a gy6 carb for 20$ and it will work, but just not as good as the stock one.

10 inch wheels means you hit a bump and lose control , wheels to small for 125 cc
