Thank you for these tips. I just moved from a big city to a rural area & had my first appointment with a new dentist last week. I have to admit, I am very conscious of upselling & perhaps a dentist offering unnecessary procedures. They advertised free cleaning & x-rays on your initial visit which has now been scheduled for April 16. I was charged $157 for a consultation with a dentist. In my opinion, I have paid for that FREE cleaning.
This kind of information for the public non-dental community is SO VALUABLE. I live in Bethesda MD and there are several bad dentists in my city and nearby. They DO Push aggressive, overtreatments aimed at profit maximization. When you are a senior this is especially abusive financially, emotionally and physically. Many adults learn the hard way after landing on an unethical dentist just how much harm can be done by the pushing of CBCT scans with lots of radiation and the deployment of scare tactics -- also a favorite among the bad dentist group. Please be careful and big Thanks to Pinecrest Dental. I wish I lived in Utah to go to this dentist and be safe and relaxed about dental health care. He is oriented to protecting your teeth not destroying them! More ethics courses are needed in dental schools--this is apparent.
I'm so sick of dentist up selling you into a procedure you didn't ask for. Stay away from corporate dental offices like Aspen Dental, Modern Dentistry, Bright Now, Bright Smile or Comfort Dental.
I gave up on the US dental industry, I needed bone grafting, a sinus lift and 2 teeth extracted, there is way to much focus on insurance, xrays, excessive appointments resulting in quick 10 minute procedures. Much needed work was taking way too long and just a general lack of professionalism. Theirs costs were absurd, So I went to Mexico instead. I got sinus lift, bone grafts and 2 teeth extracted in 1 day. Total cost was $1800 bucks... I will be getting 4 implants after the bone grafting heals in 6 months.. total cost for everything is $7200. I have to wait for things to heal before getting teeth but at least I got the actual work I needed done. The estimate in the US, for the same work was 18K...
I've had bad dental work. Every filling I had needed to be replaced. Im talking about less than 3-4 months with each one. Which I had to pay extra each time. I never thought I would say that I hate going to the dentist.
I would just like to thank Youfor putting this info out there. I my option, this is long overdue because We as patients do not like to betaken to the cleaners. And believe me, I have been all my life, so thank You for Your true honesty!

In my experience the dentists I saw just wanted to pad their bank accounts instead of being concerned about my dental health. In the in I on my own was able to save the tooth for less than 200.00.
I have been ripped off by some real scam- artist dentists in my life , I hate to say this but SOME do try to help , but many know the con game and will fix the teeth ,BUT know it will eventually need to be fixed again and again, until the patient realizes its gotta be removed, they do not tell the truth some of these dishonest dentists

Fortunately, I rarely need dental work--contrary to what EVERY dentist will tell you. But, on occasion, I do. So I scheduled one with a new dentist; my old one retired. It took 4 months to get in. She gave me a treatment protocol with 3 crowns, etc. and deep cleaning. Seemed like a nice efficient lady, but I questioned the deep cleaning because I have only one sign of gum disease out of the 8 listed online, and that one symptom I have had for at least 30 years. She wouldn't discuss this with me, just kept insisting I needed it. I don't want an invasive procedure that can cause both physical and financial problems. So I went for a second opinion. Also, the tooth that was bothering me wasn't on the treatment plan. It took another 4 months to get into another office. That dentist gave me a treatment plan that had no crowns or deep cleaning. And the rest of the treatment plan showed NO overlap with the prior. What do you do with that?! Also, that dentist also said that the tooth that was bothering me showed no problems except some wear on the filling. I had her replace that filling anyway and feel much better about it. I would stay with this dentist except she is old and showing some mild cognitive problems. I'm old enough to recognize it. So I'll not be able to predict when that impacts her treatment. I've made an appointment with a third dentist (six month wait) for a THIRD opinion. I have avoided dentists and doctors my whole life because in my case--and perhaps I am unique in this-- they have caused at least as many problems as they have fixed, and that was in the old days when people weren't beholden to the corporations.
I've never heard of overlays. I've had maybe a couple of root canals and quit a few fillings. Recently, one of my front teeth have kinda broken in half. It's loose from the middle down, but doesn't seem to be loose at the gums. I've went to a couple dentists and an implant place and they all keep telling me that I would have to get it pulled and either get an implant, bridge, or dentures. I was hoping that it could have been saved somehow.

In two years time I had three molars extracted. Each time I had considerable pain and discomfort for 3-4 days. These extractions were done at the same clinic.Recently a different dentist extracted my lower right wisdom tooth.I expected much pain and discomfort. It only was painful briefly as the novacaine wore off then left me in no pain whatsoever.
I hate the dentist. They gave me fillings I never needed and they destroyed my molar and drilled most of it off. If I'm taking care of my teeth, brushing and flossing twice a day, using a Sonicare brush, avoiding sweets, I shouldn't be having big tooth issues unless I'm on meth. I think some dentists like to over-prescribe crowns. Why? Well, crowns are big money-makers. Even if you have insurance, insurance will pay for, at most, half the crown. You still are on the hook for hundreds or thousands of dollars. Worse, down the line, crowns get old. Bacteria can form around them. They can fall out. Crowns create maintenance issues of their own. My dentist is great, does what is needed and nothing more. I have some old fillings mostly from the 70s and 80s all silver. I feel i have done very well, not perfect but well. I am near retirement and have all but one tooth that came as a problem in my 20s and its an implant now. Everything fits perfect.
I've had a INCOMPETENT dentist who did dental work that I'm paying for now. Always trying to upsale something on you. putting braces ONLY on the lower jaw.
Yeah I just had all my teeth pulled on June 16 2023 I haven’t eaten real food since I had 3 adjustments a soft realign and still can’t keep my lower teeth to stay in to eat no glue will keep them in
Single root and simple root anatomy can be done by a general dentist. Unless you want lower premolar, molars RCTed then yes, an endo. But you're paying x5 more in cost. No point for simple rcts.
Too late for me. I've got more crowns than an Appalachian child. Had them for 50 plus years and the demon dentist has gone to his "reward" many years ago. Wish my mom had known about proper dental care when I was a kid because I could have saved myself years of pain and expense.

I've had a INCOMPETENT dentist who did dental work that I'm paying for now. Always trying to upsale something on you. putting braces ONLY on the lower jaw.
Yeah I just had all my teeth pulled on June 16 2023 I haven’t eaten real food since I had 3 adjustments a soft realign and still can’t keep my lower teeth to stay in to eat no glue will keep them in
Dentures are a replacement for no teeth, not a replacement for teeth.
Just can't afford in uk. But if i ever spot a dentist again I'll make sure to watch for them being bad ones lol
Getting a 404 error on that link in your intro. FYI …. Helpful as it might have been…..
Another great video!❤
My dentist is a dam crook… He tells people to get completely unnecessary root canals and foolish X-rays… He is in Sharon Massachusetts.
I won’t let anyone but an endodontist do root canals on me. Too much can go wrong and I want someone who made a whole career out of the procedure.
Thanks everyone for your comments.
